HELP!
I have flies in my house. No this is not a joke, I am very serious, I have flies in my house and do not know what to do.
We did not have flies in GA. I knew what to do with palmetto bugs, but with flies I dont.
I called a pest control company here and they said use a flyswatter. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of these flies?
I also have bunny rabbits now. They are in a cage and we keep it clean. Could they have attracted the flies?

It's not the rabbits - its the climate. They're coming indoors because it's getting too cold outside for theem to survive.
Use common sense - don't leave food out, especailly sweet things like jam, or it will attract them. Also, use fly spray or one of those repellants that you hang from the ceiling. It might be a good idea to put on in your attic - they tend to congregate there as heat rises, so it is the warmest part of the house that they can remain undisturbed.
P.S. Why on earth would you want to keep rabbits indoors????? I can see it now - it's dark...3am....you need to go to the bathroom.... you reach down for your slippers..... and have your foot halfway up its arse before you realise that it wasn't a slipper that you picked up....

Thanks for the replies. I thought I was being invaded by flies.
I cant believe how cold it is up here. It is August and I am walking around in a sweatshirt. Boy it is going to be a really long winter. I miss Georgia already.
ethan they are so darn cute. They have a big cage they stay in and at night and during the day they hop around. I am so in love with the bunnies!
We got them at a zoo in Virginia a few months ago. I fell in love with them right away. They are such sweet pets. They hop around and sit in your lap.
I will post a pic of them. They are sooooooooo adorable!

newspaper. rolled up. kill em all.
I live on a farm, and we get loads of flies as a result of the cows. Somehow, i have also developed a real fear for them (i had a couple of really bad nightmares about files a few months ago, and it started from there:(), so i now frequently patrol the house, can of RAID in one hand (it is great stuff, kills anything living with wings in seconds, i would go into detail abxout the death - it can't be pleasant - but i won't) and a newspaper in the other (more...humane), ther trick is in the wrist action ;) :). You can also try spraying RAID (or other, inferior anti-flying-insect spray) round the doors and windows, it is meant to deter them, but i am not sure how effective it is.

my dads house gets invaded by flies, he puts up masses of flypaper everywhere, and they are usually gone in 2 days. the really beefy flies, though, roll off of the other dead flies that are trapped and use them as a launch pad to escape. so, every 15 minutes check for new flies and burn thier wings off. HAHAHA. another thing that works is to spray them with water mist and kill them when they are on the floor trying to shake the water off.

three words: fly paper. no wait, that's two.
we had a fly problem at work. the back room was literally swarming with flies. for a 5'x5' room, there must have been about 30-40 flies flitting around in there. (we found out later that a rat had died above the cieling board and that's where they were coming from)
but anyway, three strips of fly paper, hung from the cieling, and within TWO DAYS every single fly was stuck to the paper and dead. it was nasty to take down, but damn was that cool.

We were getting flies in our garage. We keep the side door open all day so the dog can go in and out, so obviously flies can go in and out all they want too. We got one of those things you hang up - not flypaper, but it's a plastic slotted case with something inside, sort of a pesticide maybe? It has worked pretty good. I don't see any flies out there since we put it up, and no little fly corpses all over the place either. I think they hate the smell and stay away.

I get a fly invasion around this time of year every year.
It gives me great amusement to get my dad's shopvac and chase them around until they get sucked up (or that's just me..)
Anyways, tell corey, dylan and kyle that :p
Ethan: ..and why did you have the picture lying around ready to post in the first place? :D

I don't get a fly invasion, just an ant colony invasion, even outside in my garage. It's fun to spray them with hairspray and watch them slowly die. And if they're on the wall, they stay there even after they've been poisined to death. Cool!
...then comes to the time when the walls are so dirty, they look like a connect-the-dot activity... How do I live with dead ants on my walls? The torture...

we rutinely get invaded by fruit flies here (call it a lack of anyone using the kitchen), and the best solution i've ever had was to own two cats and a dog.. they spend countless hours chasing the flies and eating them... works wonders for infestations of almost anything, mice, rats, squirels, ants, small possums, racoons... i don't recomend it for skunks though.

Missy, dunno if it will help, but in the summer, my dad would take cotton balls and hang them on strings in the middle open doors to outside... it kept the flys out.
Im guessing where they see in a different color spectrum, and where they've learnt to stay away from bright white splotches, cause of certain types of spiders, they stay away from the cotton...
Just an idea.

they sell this white powder stuff at the hardware store that you put around the perimeter of your house before summer, and it keeps the ants out year round. we used to have an ant problem every year until we started doing that. now if only i could get rid of my AUNT problem...

this topic reminds, it's almost wasp time for my pella windows. they somehow sneak between the rubber guards (whatsit?). that leaves them between the glass window and the screen. it hasn't been as bad since the first time 6-7 years ago. now it's only about a 150-200 wasps in the upper windows.
my summer bug dilemma:
first it's evil brown lady bugs, then the genetically engineered super queen bee, then black ants, then window wasps.
i sure hope i get something normal next year, like killer bees.

They eat one fly - and take a week to digest it. She'd want a forest of Venus flytraps to clean out her house.

If you ever go to a store that sells flytraps, grab a pen or something and start poking the inside of the plant, it'll close it's "mouth" thingy. I walked into a store once and made all the flytraps close up - it was funny. :p

i read in the paper the other day about they people just moved into their new home and was infested with flies.they were the ones that just fly in a circle in the middle of the room.they are "lost" flys.they dont know how to get out of your house,so they just fly in a circle till they starve to death.

Do you realise that you killed all those plants by doing that? They think that they have caught something, so they release the digestive enzymes, which means they digest themselves.

Jon- I went to that site, but could not understand the language.
Anyway, I have alot less flies in the house now.
I bought some flyswatters and made a game of it. It was raining here and the boys were bored inside anyway.
The person to kill the most flies in the house won a prize.
It was really close, They were within a couple of flies of each other so I declared them all winners.
I am going to pick up the Mario Sunshine game for the x-box that they wanted!
Have a wonderful day.
