View Full Version : How to celebrate an eighteenth birthday?

Ok, I'll be eighteen friday and I have a lot of trouble to decide how I will celebrate it (I do have some ideas, but I would love to hear suggestions, maybe I have not thought about that great "something"). So, how have you celebrated on your eighteenth birthday? Would you have liked it to be different? For those who are still minor, what do you plan to do on that special day? Thank you all:)

i went to the pub and somehow managed to go to all the pubs in my home town, get horribly, horribly drunk, dance the can-can, be dragged home, and chip my cistern lid while hurling in the toilet. i also managed to fit my whole body between the toilet and the wall, a gap of about 5 inches. without spending a penny!:igor::up: i love my friends!

Beer kegs, lap dancers, loud music... Oh wait, that was someone else's 18th birthday. :( Actually, my 18th birthday was uneventful, but I spent it with my family, and that's what counts. :)

also, i'd like to point out that i am a horrifically irresponsible and self-destructive person.
DO NOT TRY MY BIRTHDAY AT HOME. the aftermath is unpleasant, if not fatal.

@ Lescuyer:
I noticed in another thread you have an interest in politics.
When you turn 18, you could register to vote.
Sounds corny doesn't it?
Oh well...
Then go out and PARTY with wild and naked women!!!

I agree that familly is important, I will have supper with them in a few days, though my "favorite" uncles and aunts won't be able to come for various reasons:(

Hahaha, parties at home are over since a looooong time : two years ago, I had the house to myself for two long weeks...so there were two week-ends of endless party. Everywhere, there was beer, pot, people...and neighbors. My parents did not liked to hear about that...:( :D

If I can remember that far back, it seems I just had a drunken party with all my friends. I remember Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen" (which hadn't been out too long) being played repeatedly at high volume on the Victorola. ;)

go and get strippers, plenty of smokes, a gun, have your cool/adult
friends buy you beer, kick your parents out, get a 5000watt amp for
your stero (hook up pc with winamp on it to stero), have lots of cheap
sex with strippers, and if firecrackers are legal in your state stock
up on those too.

On my 18th I drove six hours to the Adirondack Mountains by myself.. it was cold and lonely but it helped me do a lot of thinking and writing. I have made the trip a few times since, I look forward to doing it again soon.
I still have the view from the boy scout observatory high above the mohawk river in my mind.. here's what I wrote then:
Views up here flow like thoughts
and I'm sure that the eagle
circling above finds it mundane
we are sharing the quietness
and the loudness of mountain peaks
there is not a soul that I have seen
but i am here to see it
when a branch cracks on the ground
and makes a sound I am here to hear it
and like the waters below
today I move from one point to the next
it pushes the dirt and changes the earth
as I can hope,
to do the same...

I think I just spent my eighteenth with family (I recall it being a weekday at any rate). It wasn't really that special as I'd been out drinking in pubs for a couple of years before that...
For my birthday this year, there was a massive get-together of most of my friends (all that could make it) at a local pub. It was really excellent :)

Climb up some cliffs in the middle of the night and set off fireworks from the top (if a road goes by the cliffs, be sure to have everybody set off as many fireworks as possible when a car goes by). Ride around on the roof of your friend's car while he drives recklessy down back roads at twice the speed limit. Find an intersection with a three way stop and steal all the "3-Way" signs (there's three of them...), then find 2 chicks and present each one with one of the signs and see what happens. Drive around late at night making loud noise and shining headlights/flashlights into people's windows and pulling into their driveways and honking the horn (make sure you get rid of the signs and fireworks first though, just in case you get pulled over). Climb on to the roof of your highschool and sit and chat under the night sky for awhile...or take a piss into one of the open-air walkways (if your school has any) to show the administration exactly how you feel, whatever floats your boat.
Celebrate your 18th year of life by tempting death. Trust me, it'll make you appreciate life all the more.
Of course, DON'T just go out and get drunk...that's just unhealthy, dangerous, and stupid.

Many thanks for your answers. Here is my plan (the success of the first step depends on the weather) : On september 26, by the end of the day, I will take my bike and ride out of the city with a candle, some music, a box of cigars and my journal. I terribly need to sort out many things about my future and my life in general...I'll sleep outside (or not sleep). At dawn, I will go back home, rest a little and wait for my family for supper. Late in the evening, I guess that me and my friends will go downtown, maybe to an Irish pub. I realised that I could do all of these thing instead of only one.
