View Full Version : RFC: Skin Preferences Standardization

Since a lot of skins are now adding specialized preferences, I think it might be a good idea if the skinning community uses a more or less standard UI for them. I think somewhere in the forum or #NS I saw a message about having them inside the actual Winamp preference window, but we don't have the option today. SO, here's my RFC (Request For Comments):

1. All skin preferences MUST be contained inside a single standardframe windows.

2. Any skin pref MAY be accessed in any other way a skinner chooses (that is, in addition to #1). Example: Scroll song ticker in skins preference window and on a right-click menu on the ticker itself.

3. If a skin has many many options, preferences may be organized in tabsheets or via a tree or list, but #1 MUST be respected.

Please consider this and comment on it. I will not dictate (and could not) how it will evolve, if at all. Let's just brainstorm and see what we come up with.

great idea, love it :)

we could put together a standard layout where the skinner adds there own options, but it would be up to the skinner if they use it. we could get a page deticated to this on nsdn, thatd make it more 'standard'

I'm all for it too, however I am having difficulty trying to actually implement a tabsheet. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I figured out what I was doing wrong while trying to implement the wasabi tabsheet. It works great now! If all goes well, and assuming there's no significant changes to this proposal, to the best of my knowledge Mercury will be the first skin to fully adhere to these suggestions. :)

Good idea,
When we get the ability to add panes to the standard prefs window, lets make that standard.

yea in the normal prefs would be cool. I like that idea, but whats talked about sounds good for now. Like Boom, it all had it in one window and it was nice, you just used the right click menu to get it. Makes sense ;).
