I just bought a used NES earlier this afternoon. :) It wasn't exactly cheap; $50 for the console, one controller, power adapter, and RF switch. But, it's in great condition (already took it apart, blew out a little dust, and put it back together) and works perfectly. I've already played it a little tonight. I've got to start building up my collection of games again...

You might be thinking "So what? It's a Nintendo. Big deal." Well, yeah. It's a big deal to me because I haven't had my NES since my mom gave mine to some "less than financially fortunate" neighbors about 12 or 13 years ago. I still give her shit about it today...

Anyways, I've reclaimed one of my games that I originally had. About a week ago, I found a copy of the Gold version of The Legend Of Zelda. :D It's in perfect condition (no scratches, and the sticker on the cartridge is perfect, too) and came in the original box. No booklet, though. :( But oh well. Now I've got to find all my other favorite old games... Mario/Duck Hunt, Mario 2, Mario 3, Excite Bike, Punisher, Ninja Turtles, etc. :)

What about that one orange gun or whatever it was the was used to shoot the ducks? I don't really remember I was a little kid when I played NES.

The NES had some really great games. I think i sold mine when i was 11...pity, i think i'd still use it every now and then. Ninja turtles kicked ass, and so did mario...until the N64 versions..

I'm trying to remember if there was a FuncoLand down there... but I don't think so. If you happen to find one, they have TONS of cheap NES games (we got Mario/Duck Hunt for 49 cents). The ones that are more rare (like Zelda) may cost up to $20 though. Actually, we got our console there, too... for 20 bucks :)

Here's my list so far... :D

Mario/Duck Hunt
Mario 3
Contra
Super Contra
RC Pro-Am
Tecmo Bowl
Bases Loaded
Super Off-Road
RBI Baseball

There were some more I wanted but didn't think it was worth paying the extra moolah for (I'll just play the rom on here :D ).

Yeah, I still need to get the blaster gun... And I need to get controllers that are in slightly better condition. The one that came with mine works fine, but it's kinda beat up. :p

The Gold version of Zelda cost me $25.

you need a jog-pad and that one cartridge that has mario/duck hunt/olympic game on it.
the gun is called the Zapper BTW. You should also get Kirby, Metroid,
Bomberman (for some four player action) and a Game Genie. Hard as hell
to find a working one.

I had no idea that funcoland sold old NES's that cheap. My parents don't believe in video games, and have never allowed me and my sisters to buy them. Until now. I'm 17 and can have videogames. Woo hoo! (It's not that they thought that they were tools of satan or anything: they just didn't want us to sit in front of the TV all day.)

Man! I'm surprised noone mentioned Ninja Gaiden! This was the best game on NES. Here or some other fav's of mine:

Mega Man 2
Mario Brothers 2
Zelda 2
Golf (My dad actually played this one with me, so it holds sentamental value)

If you ever want to completely waste hours and hours of time, then get a nes emulator and download the game called "Pirates". Now, listen closely, you must turn the game speed up to very fast, get high or drunk, and continue to conquer the high seas for hours. Me and some friends did this during our sophomore year of finals. Nothing constructive (like studying) happened that week, yet I still pulled off good grades due to hard work during the whole semester.

Atmo
23rd October 2002, 04:03
The roms are the exact games, but the emulator isnt a nintendo...thats why its called an emulator.

I've got emulators for nes, snes, genesis, gameboy, psx etc. and playing them on tv isnt bad at all...the only noticeable difference is the controller, but its not the real thing.

I'd reccomend getting an emulator for free but nothing can defeat the pleasure you get with the entire controller in your hands other than using a Keyboard.

Although Emulators have been grand for me: I love Blaster Master, and I would always have to turn it off at the end of level 3 because I could not beat it, and I'd have to start all over! Emulators can actually save the game at the POINT YOU ARE AT! SO COOL!

-suprisingly enough i think driver for gameboy is indeed in pseudo 3d super jagged and shifty but 3d

-i cant believe there has been no mention of "legend of kage" for nes

-emulators for some unknown reason are indeed a far cry from owning the actual console even if you do have a in hand controller its still not the same (there is a way to hook up a snes controller to a putter i think; as infered from seing "printer port snes controller" in so many emulators) though because good old games are hard to come by in my town: most people hold on to that sort of thing and because there still mildly expensive i think ill have to settle for emulators when it comes to nes and neo geo and so on. though i am tetering on the verge of buying a snes eventhough there still 30 bux dough. killer instinct, super mario world, and donkey kong are quality entertainment. my sister stole my old one

-though most here might take it as sacriledge i think metroid prime is way better than halo. however, i have yet to have the privledge of playing halo multiplayer.

-did you know that sony is going to come out with a handheld in 2004 <--- true story.

Never played Halo, but Metroid Prime took over the spot of my favorite game to date, previously held by The Ocarina Of Time. :)

And even though I hate Sony (for the most part, anyways) I did happen to pick up a used copy of the original Gran Turismo this evening. Six bucks. :) But bleh... anyways, back to Nintendo...

Sometime when I can afford it, I'm going to get another GBA and GC (both used) so that I can put my Limited Edition Platinum ones away and keep them in mint condition. Collector's items they will be. :)

no, they're not. copying the ROM of the system, or the game/software media is, but straight emulation is not (except when you have to do one of those to do it - even then it's legal to do it as long as you have the original system).

just download system specific emulators (ie: snes=Zsnes) and roms (games=Mario world) if you want to partake in some classic console gaming. Yes the emulators are not the actual hardware, yet they are not subject to the same degradation as the hardware is, they are forever(1’s & 0’s). As for controllers you can pick up a psx to usb adapter for cheap then just config it and kick it. In some cases these emu's have online capabilities (zsnes.com + zbattle.net) so if you want to take a break from that paper your righting and kick some ass in Street Fighter you can do just that, not possible with an old console. http://removed is a good place to get the emus, but you’re on your own in your search for roms, in that they are copyrighted. Emulators are not illegal as long as you own the game and the system you are emulating.

Anyways, I picked up a copy of Top Gun for my NES earlier tonight. Total... $2. :) I also found a copy of the original Super Mario Brothers (without Duck Hunt) to add to my collection. Total... 29 cents. :D:D

get the roms not additional cartridges, roms don’t have to concern them self’s with cheap copper connecters warring down, and then being blown on in a futile attempt to get them to be operational. Damn that blinking blue screen, damn it just fricken work will ya.

That’s why after awhile (if not already) you’ll be cussing out your inoperable console, while I will be playing the games (@ no additional cost or frustration) on my computer with a psx controller. ; )

has anybody mentioned Castlevania yet???? jeez, I can't remember which one I had, but that was a good one. and nobody has mentioned Kung Fu!!! but the big question is: did anyone have the original Japanese NES??? that had some cool games which I never saw in the US market.

unless you have the revised NES that is top loading and went on sale in 92 then you will inevatably fall victum to the plight of the cheap copper connectors. care will elongate your enjoyment but it will inevatably wear as do all man made objects , especialy thoughs with cheap parts and freq friction. So continue to build your collection if you wish but if you want to presurve a working Nes classic I suggest you use emulators or a revised 92 nes. This is becasue 5 10 years down the line a working classic nes will be a rare find.
just a suggestion : )

sgtfuzzbubble011

I don't have the top-loading NES. That's even more rare to find than the original one... But anyways, I mainly have them just to keep in my collection and to play once in a blue moon. When I want to play some video games, I'll usually turn on my N64, Cube, or GBA. I'm using the N64 that I restored to play my games on while I keep my original N64 in the box it came in the day I bought it (the day it hit the shelves back in '98 :)). Soon, I'm also going to get a used Cube to play my games on so that I can put my Platinum Cube back in the box and keep it in mint condition. I'm also going to do the same with my GBA... I'm going to get a Platinum GBAsp to keep in the box while I use my other GBA to play the games on. My original GameBoy, NES, and Super NES are all also still in great condition, and I'm going to keep them that way. :)

sgtfuzzbubble011
22nd June 2003, 20:43
I picked up three more NES games yesterday... the original Spy Hunter (I've never played any of the series, so I'm not quite sure what it's like yet), another copy of Tetris (just for the hell of having two), and the original Pinball (ya know, the one with Mario running around holding a plank above his head :D). Total for the three? $8.54 :)

List so far:

-The Legend of Zelda (gold version)
-The Legend of Zelda II: Link's Adventure (both the grey and gold versions)
-Tetris (two copies)
-Super Mario Brothers (without Duck Hunt)
-Super Mario Brothers / Duck Hunt (two copies)
-Super Mario Brothers 2
-Super Mario Brothers 3
-Metroid
-Gradius
-The Punisher
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
-Excitebike
-Pinball
-Pinball Quest
-Pinbot
-Bionic Commando
-Gauntlet
-Rad Racer (two copies)
-R.C. Pro-Am Racing
-Spy Hunter
-Super Off-Road
-Top Gun

Not a bad list, if I do say so myself. :)

I also finally got a GBAsp yesterday. It was the last Platinum colored one in the area. GameStop was sold out of all the GBAsp's (the Platinum ones were the first to go). Wal-Mart didn't have any. None of the local game traders stores had any... So, I was lucky to find two GBAsp's at Circuit City. One was Cobalt, the other was Platinum. I was like "can you hold this for me while I run to the bank real quick? :D" I'm just glad I finally got one. I'm going to keep this one in the box and use my regular GBA to play my games on. Now, I just need to find a used GC so that I can put my Platinum one back in the box. :)

sgt, the n64 hit the shelves xmass of 96 (@ least in the usa). emulation is key if you want to enjoy some gaming nastalga with out the expence or the frustration. though I still have my original nes, with about 30 games sitting in a box in my closet.

sgtfuzzbubble011

Actually, the N64 hit the shelves on September 29th, if I remember correctly. Anyways, emulators are fine for other people, but they just don't compare to having the real thing in front of you. At least for me, that is.

yes Excite bike is a great Nes game as is RiverCityRansom, code name Viper, and Ballon fight (still great 2 player game). maybe stg you could make a thred to the effect of "great games of yore.." or maybe that would be redundant.

also...
? why do u purchase more then one copy of a game. especially thoughts that are quite common such as the mario bros./duckhunt combo. Are these second copies in original packaging because otherwise I cant understand the reasoning. enlighten me sgt.

sgtfuzzbubble011
13th October 2003, 22:33
For the same reason that I have more than one of each of the Hotwheels in my collection. Wouldn't be much of a collection if I only had one of each. When the first run of the 1997 Corvettes (the green ones) came out in 1996, I bought over twenty of them. :D Anyways, I guess the reason is "because I can." :) Also, several of the games that I have two copies of... I found a copy in better condition than the one I already had, so I went ahead and got the second one to go along with it.

I want to get the Donkey Kong's for Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64. But I have no money.

I gave my cousin back her Dreamcast which I gave her and she gave me back my N64 which I gave myself. I picked up Perfect Dark which I previously had but had it permanatly borrowed and Turok which is new and I cant say that I like it.

So In my game area I have my NES (new version) SNES (old version) N64 and XBOX. Currently playing are Excitebike, Super Mario All Stars, Perfect Dark, Otogi.

Stopped by the mall again today and picked up a couple more... Found a copy of Rad Racer II in excellent condition, and also found another copy of the original Rad Racer. This one came with the original box, game sleeve, and booklet. Hell it even had the styrofoam block that came in the box below the gamepak to take up the extra space. :D You know I couldn't pass that one up. Total spent on the two: about 22 bucks.

Aside from getting a used copy of Killer Instinct Gold for the N64 and a new copy of R-Type III for the GBA, I found a copy of Defender II to add to my collection of NES games. This one's in excellent shape and only cost me four bucks. Now I just need to find a copy of the original Defender to go along with it. :)

I don't really remember playing Xevious and Cybernoid back when I was a kid, but I remember playing Days Of Thunder and Rescue Rangers until my thumbs hurt. :D Fun games these are.

Yeh, okay, so it's not as well known but it had as many great games the NES.

I mean Shinobi, Wonder Boy, R-Type, Outrun (good conversion at the time, Alex the Kidd, Wimbledon, Mercs, Castle Of Illusion, and Hang-On to name a few.

Ok, I see your point, but I was dead chuffed when I got it for my 5th birthday.

I never said it wasn't a good system. I just said that it's only an opinion. :)

I can't say whether or not I like the Master System better than the NES, because I've never played the Master System before.

And I remember when I first got my NES. I was glued to it for weeks straight. :D

Stopped by the flea market again today just to say hi to my "supplier" (sounds like I'm a druggie or something :p), but I ended up buying a few games from him (of course). I picked up a copy of the original The Legend Of Zelda and a copy of Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link. Both are gold versions, both came with their original boxes and gamepak sleeves, and both are in immaculate condition. The original had the booklet with it, and the second had the poster that shipped with the game. Both even had the little styrofoam blocks that came packaged in the bottom of the box to take up space. Aside from those two games, I also got a copy of Panic Bomber for the Virtual Boy... even though that's not going on this list. Cool nonetheless, considering that there were only like, 14 games ever released for the VB. :)

Sarge, i'll be in florida, so it'd be quite a distance away, and I'm not a nice enough guy to do it without at least getting paid for shipping it, so if you dont want it, i think one of my old primary school friends who lives a couple of streets away had a NES. I'll go down and ask him if he wants it. Can you play mulitplayer duck hunt?

Haha no I don't think Duck Hunt is multiplayer. :) If your friend wants it, then by all means. I found mine, and actually, I have two Zappers. One is grey, and the other is orange. So, I think I'm good with those. Thanks anyways, Nobby.

If you can find it, you may save some cash by obtaining the SNES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy Cart. Its all 3 Nes games on one cart the only thing is that unlike Mario All Stars, they did no updating, they are the exact originals in all their 8-bit glory.

http://search.ebay.com/Ninja-Gaiden-Trilogy_W0QQsokeywordredirectZ1QQfromZR8

items of 80's nostalga seem to be all the rage right now. Have you found sgt if this fad has elivated the cost of NES cart collecting at all?

For one thing I know I can get more for my working NES then I can for my modded PSone.

sgtfuzzbubble011
25th July 2004, 14:47
It has. They wanted $165 for a used 2nd Gen NES as GameTrader. A beat-up copy of the original PacMan on NES goes for over $20. Both gold and grey versions of the original Legend Of Zelda go for no less than $40 each... with box and booklet, they want $60.

It's fucking expensive because retro 80s shit is now fashionable again.

25th July 2004, 22:51
HAHA! Whatever. I got the 2nd Gen NES thing. I need a first gen that works though cuz I gave mine away to someone in need. I wouldn't mind a 2nd Gen SNES and a 1st gen SNES in good condition (mine has crayola on it).

EfaustuS9
26th July 2004, 02:48
The 2nd incarnation of the NES was designed to be even cheaper to manufacture then the original NES. It is top loading, in order to relieve the blinking blue screen, but it lacks the RCA connection (RF only) and some claim that even then the video output (thus pic quality) is inferior to the original. It was released in short supply and didn’t last for long in the mist of the 16-bit era, thus it’s a rare and expensive find today.

Hummm, it seems now might be a good time to sell my Nes collection. You know Before the 80's once again become uncool.

also sgt avoid these carts at all costs ;) .

nes = snes = n64 ?=? gamecube when it comes to the video output pluggy bits.

whiteflip
27th July 2004, 00:08
the NES and SNES have the rfu ports and im pretty sure they are compatible (those grey things that plug into the cable line). The SNES and N64 have the av out port as well as the game cube but the game cube has a new hi def video out.

So it would seem that the SNES is backwards compatible with the NES. The N64 is backwards compatible with the SNES. And the GC is backwards compatible with the N64 all in terms of video connectivity.

sgtfuzzbubble011
27th July 2004, 01:33
The NES has a built-in RF modulator. All you need to connect it to your television is an RF switch. The SNES, N64, and GameCube all have AV ports (and in the Cube's case, a digital output as well). The RF modulator that you're talking about is compatible with all of these except the original NES, since that one has it built in. In order to hook any of these systems up to the coaxial input on your television, you're going to need the RF switch. If you have RCA inputs on your television or VCR, then you can just use the multicable that comes with all three of the latter systems.

Hey sarge, I have a spare NES power adaptor if you have a spare NES RF modulator
Sorry, I've only got a few of them, and they're all being taken up. :[

Is that that panasonic system? (link won't open), I nearly imported one of those to the UK until I realised what freaking price it was gonna be, and that it also wasn't multi regioned.

Neat idea though, liscensing the technology for other products.

DragonSon
27th July 2004, 10:49
You can buy it fully modded, from what the site says, but it'll cost you your eternal soul, your first born child, and your virgin asshole. Seriously, it's almost 500 dollars to get it that way, they might as well do those things while they're at it.

Mr Jones
27th July 2004, 10:58
If it had been cheaper and I didn't already have a cube I'd have bought one, but no point now, other than to show off with, besides there aint no more room under my tv for more gadget boxes at the minute.

I'm waiting for the day that someone builds a HDTV with a built in Playstation or something, I'm amazed Sony hasn't already been down that road yet.

/waits for someone to prove him wrong...

Oh, I've seen stuff like that, I nearly bought a portable tv with a dvd player built in, I guess the game console technology would be out of date quicker than regular DVD playback, you'd be changing your £1000 tv every 3 years or so..

sgtfuzzbubble011
27th July 2004, 23:01
Yeah, I've seen the Q. Really cool, but like Jones said, you'll be giving up essential body organs to get it. I don't need one, though. I've got three GameCubes, a DVD player, two VCRs, hifi stereo system with CD players and cassette decks, etc. I hardly use the VCRs or the CD player, and never use the cassette decks, but I've got them if I need them. As for all the functions of the Q... I've got all those bases covered with my Cubes, DVD player, and CD players.

sgtfuzzbubble011

It'd probably be easier to just buy a universal power adapter kit to plug the US charger into. I'm not sure how much those run for, though.

Mr Jones

Nob, if you can't find one on your return, I can let you have the site of a very reputable GBA dealer who will sell you one for 5.99 or you can be really l337 like me and get a USB charger lead for 3.99

Or you could always buy a step up (or is it down) convertor for it.

I've got a NES too! :D

My game's list is not too big. I guess I'd need to dig up some of the classics as well. I still own a working Game Genie and the original Zapper and controllers (with a few bite marks on them) btw. :)

There's this serie of games I'd defenitly want because of the good memories, it's called "Adventure Island x" where "x" is 1 to 3 as far as I can remember. I used to rent those on boring sundays but I was stupid enough to never actually buy them. Which I regret now. :(

Kaboon
10th November 2005, 08:13
I'm going to buy a Gamecube today. I set my mind on the Zelda sp. edition. Hope I can still get it around here.

Also, what are the games I should defenitly buy? :)

DuaneJeffers

The the GameCube??? My top three games you should own are Super Smash Bros., Resident Evil 4 and Zelda: The Windwaker.

:D

You can't go wrong with the res evil games, well you can but if you can find them get Res Zero and Res 1 and without a doubt find res 4, you can probably get zero and one off ebay for hardly any money, I bought both of mine off there for half the price of one of them in the shops, don't look at 2 & 3 and veronica though unless you are a completist, they are pretty poor in comparison

Zelda again without a doubt, if you can find the limited double disc version even better you can play WW and then go back and have a stab at Ocarina, I did that , between the pair of them 3 months of my life vanished :)

'Sarge will tell you to get Metroid Prime, but I think it's rubbish :p

Other stuff I've enjoyed, Medal of Honur European Assault, good if you want some FPS

Star Wars Rouge Squadron II, bloody amazing SW game, first game I bought for the cube, still playing it now.

Viewtiful Joe if you want some bonkers platform beat em up action.

Kaboon
10th November 2005, 11:50
I will defenitly try to get my hands on all Zelda's around. Hope I can find the special edition. Unfortunate I never had a chance to play Zelda on the SNES, which is one of the best, I've just been told. So it'd defenitly rock if I get a chance to play them on the Cube. Mario will also be a game I'll be buying. Still love the NES versions of them so I hope the GC version(s)will not disapoint me.

Mr Jones
10th November 2005, 12:26
You'll get a Zelda limited editon quite easily off ebay, always loads for sale. that has a bonus discs with two editions of Ocarina of time.

You could also look out for Double Dash limited edition, that also had a bonus disc with Ocarina, Majoras Mask, Zelda 1 & 2 on it, unless that's the disc they are bundling with the cube at the minute...

sgtfuzzbubble011
11th November 2005, 06:44
Metroid is not rubbish. :p Metroid Prime and Echoes are both awesome games. Oh, and you'll definitely have to get Double Dash, Smash Brothers, and Wind Waker. There's a bunch of other games I'd recommend, but I can't think of all of them off the top of my head at the moment.

I think I've bought this one. Only seen Mario Cart so far though. Wouldn't surprise me if I got the "special" Double Dash edition since it only came with one disc. As far as I know it only contains Mario Cart, I've only connected the set to my TV and played MC for a few secs to see if it was working. :)

Getting Zelda seperatly here is not a very big problem. I think I've seen the limited edition in a sale somewhere. :)

Getting the games is a bigger problem then I though. The Gamecube hype seems to be kinda over here. I did manage to get the games I want though (Super Mario Sunshine and Zelda Wind Waker). :D I also bought Tony Hawk's Underground 2, just for the heck of it (€9.99).

Just wait until Twilight Princess is released. I bet you'll see a lot more GameCube sales then.

Mr Jones
13th November 2005, 19:09
If it ever gets released for the cube, Nintendo might deny it but a little part of me says this is going straight to be a Revolution launch title.

How many times has it been delayed now?, missing the big 2005 xmas sales push is just unforgiveable...

LuigiHann
13th November 2005, 19:15
I don't think it's going to be made into a Revolution game. I do, however, think it will come out close enough to the Revolution launch that it'll have special extras that will be unlocked if you play it on the Rev, like the Oracle games that came out for GBC right when the GBA came out. I'd rather have big Gamecube games keep coming out until the Rev launch, compared to say the N64 which was completely dead months before the GameCube launch.
