You can't. The Gimp was programmed specifically to demonstrate the ineptitude of its programmers.

I was talking about the text made up of lines, if phong.com was up id show you.
Actually, i found it, the technique is called scan lines.
The one thing that sucks about the gimp si that to use LZW compression you haveta pay Unisys some licensing fee of $2000+. Oh well, what Unisys dont know wont hurt em...and it'll save me money

That should learn you. Don't use GIF. Use PNG wherever possible, and if absolutely necessary, you may resort to JPG.
but it would make more sense for the developers of The Gimp to shell out the 2 grand so that their users would have more choice at their disposal. Then again, the developers of The Gimp are inept, as previously established.

$2000 or so per year can easily be gotten from donations. That's what, like 2 bucks from a thousand users?
If Photoshop were free, I'd certainly shell out 2 bucks for GIF support. Can't say the same about The Gimp though :-/

You can do most of the same text effects at http://www.flamingtext.com.
Also, its in the Script Fu menu under Logos. That's where all the cool stuff is.

Besides, the GIF support is available through a plug-in here (http://www.iki.fi/tml/gimp/win32/gimp-gif-1.2.3-20020310.zip).
