Here's my desktop's desktop. :)

Mine... It's 1600x1200, but I can't share images larger than 256k :( And it was over a meg. So it's a very crappy ss. But if you want to see the pic in all its 1600x1200 glory, you can go look for Unreal 2 pictures, I think that's what it's from.

Anyway... http://metallichica.*************/ChicaDesktop.gif :)

Use png.

Here's me. I got over my desktop customization fetish, and decided to stick to the Windows Classic look for a change.

Yes, if I were me, I might have done that too. But being me, I own a very poor quality monitor, so the blue of the top and bottom edges gets lost in any sort of frame. Brown, though... not a bad idea. I think I'll give it a try.

PNG's of my desktop come out 1.54 MB. a 246 color PNG comes out half a meg.

one reason i dont like PNG. They come out as huge file sizes for me.

That simply should not be. If you are using Photoshop 5 for pngs, stop; you have virtually no control over compression options. Upgrade to version 6 or 7, or use something else instead. Also, there is no need to be using 24 bit pngs for screenshots. 8 bit will suffice. Finally, try pngcrushing your images if they are still large.

i'd post mine but it is amazingly non-unique. It's so basic that it's not even worth the space to host the picture for it. Just imagine the default Windows2000 interface with a custom pic that says Windows 2000 advanced server. And then add about a billion files to the desktop that are temporary but never seem to get deleted.

before you install an os to your system check to see if you meet the os requiredments, like how much memory you have or how fast is your cpu. maybe thats why its been freezing and crashing, increase memory.also check the type of mother board you have and if its using onboard sound or graphics.
