View Full Version : Unjust IP/server ban.

I've been trying to set up my server for two months now but even from the start I got those nak errors saying my server's been banned for providing false information. I think this ban is completely unjust. I never did anything wrong! And I think the possibility that somebody else had my IP-adress and tried to fuck up Shoutcast before me (I have ADSL a half year now) is nihill.
I get no feedback from Shoutcast or WinAmp and in the forums I also don't read optimistic info/solutions.
I'm getting a bit desperate now cause I really want to broadcast via ShoutCast because I like the international and quite wellknown name. Or is that what's causing the haughty attitude? I'd like to read other experiences like mine especially those who solved this problem!
Many thanks, Alex.

Hi Alex,
The problem you are experiencing is a common one
un-related to you or your IP address personally.
It is a common problem experienced by many people
related to improper or incomplete configuration of
your shoutcast software, which is well documented
somewhere in the database here.
There is no need for you to think you have been banned,
even though the yp error does create that impression...
Relax, take your time and look into the matter in the
optimistic search results, and I have no doubt you will
have your station up and running in the same day.
Sorry I can not remember off-hand what the various
causes of that configuration error can be, or I would
simply tell you the solution(s).
Cheers!

Thanks Gordon for your stimulating reply. But with exactly thesame serv-file I tried a dial in connection with my analog modem(so with other IP) and then my station came in the directory without any problem. But 40kbps is not what a r@diostation would be like, besides the telephonecosts;). My 512 is waiting but without succes:cry:
But you made me hope again, TNX!

I certainly would love to hear what would spontaneously cause a ban error. I have always been told by the staff at Nullsoft is that bans happen from abuse of their yp system either by falsifying statistics or by using the directory as a tool to promote other technologies. This is not implying that you have done such a thing but someone which has used your ip or ip subnet has abused the system and generally a ban of an ip from the yp is forever. Is your IP static? Could you get it changed? If you have gotten it changed and it still gives an error is your IP under the same subnet as the other IP?

theres nothing you can do but get a different IP. it's likely that your subnet is banned, so you probably need a new ISP.

Isn't there a way to get unbanned then? I mean they could remove me from their ban-list or something like that? The directory computers are run by people aren't they?
But if not, can or will my internet provider change my IP and is the problem solved by that. Or is the subnet causing the problem and do I have to take an other provider what will cost me a lot of money besides the fact I'm very happy with the connection and service my provider is giving me.
I don't understand why the Shoutcast people remain "radio-silince" about this. Or are maintenance- and servicepeople also banned and is Shoutcast a completely self running and supporting system banning every human touch?!
Losing hope again, Alex.

Because it's their policy, sorry if you don't like it.
My personal belief on this is that they cannot varify whether or not you were the one that caused the IP to be banned. They simply do not have the resources to sit around and argue with banned individuals about this. There are actual admins who ban. It's not automatic.
The only way I know of to get unbanned is to change IP's. If I were you I would first try just getting a new IP from your current ISP and see if that resolves it. If not, then check to see how far from the last IP your new IP is. If it is under the same class C subnet then you might call them again and explain to them why you need to be placed on another class C subnet. Just take it one step at a time.

OK Jay, I'll try what you suggested but still think its not right. It may be their policy but I have to resolve trouble I never caused. A bit of service from the Shoutcast side would be welcome especially when I read more people experienced this trouble.
If anyone else got an idea or if some of the admins is wiilling and able to help me don't hesitate.....
When eventually StudioR@dioLEXY is listed, the first song will be dedicated to you!!!:p
