View Full Version : Greedy people

I'm so irritated at people who always have to have the latest and newest in everything like computer hardware/software.
Newest 3D card,biggest monitor,biggest HDD,trillions of RAM,fastest processor etc.
Ever heard of being satisfied with what you've got?
A friend of mine bragged about his new Geforce card and he had to replace it the same month!
He also mentioned several times that his monitor were bigger than mine!
Do I care???
I've never had any major probs with my comp, just replaced some fans, upgraded RAM,bought a CDRW.
As someone said:

People like that are just covering for some insecurity they have. Just nod politely and change the subject - that will drive them crazy.

Nothing wrong with being greedy. Being obnoxious is a different matter entirely.

Well, my p00ter is ancient compared to what's available now. It does what I need it to do, but it could be way better. I'm satisfied with it, but I would love to have a new p00ter with all the trimmings, too. :)
For reference, here's what I've got:
633mhz Intel Celeron II
512megs of RAM
3dfx Voodoo3 3000 PCI video card
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 audio card
15gig master hard drive
30gig slave hard drive
Internal dvd-rom drive
Internal 250meg Zip drive
External USB 4x4x8 cd-rw drive
External 56k v.90 flex modem
17" CTX monitor
Plustek OpticPro flatbed scanner
MS Intellimouse Optical
Lifeview USB webcam
Nothing to brag about, but it's sufficient for now.

They can brag how much they want as long as they don't put other people's stuff down cause it's not the newest!
It's great to get new stuff because it's fun for yourself, not because to brag about it.

About that "friend" of mine, you should see his face when I'd bought
my CD burner pretty cheap.
We had both talked about getting one but I happened to get one first.
So much to be envy about!
He still hasn't bought one.

I'd upgrade mine annually if I had enough $$ though I wouldn't brag about it. What bothers me is when people upgrade from GeForce 3 Ultra-soemthin'-OMG-FAST to GeForce 4. That's just a waste of money IMHO.

I used to keep my PC up to date, but since I invested in a brand new motorcycle I've not had the money to do so, or I would. Here's my setup:
PIII 800
512MB PC133 RAM
Four HD's: 80GB, 60GB, two 120GB's
Plextor 16/10/40A
Creative Labs 8X DVD w/DXR3 decoder card
Hercules Geforce 3
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live X-Gamer
Linksys Ethernet 10/100 card
Pinnacle DC10 Video Capture card
Promise Ultra 100 IDE controller
All of this in a Mid-ATX case w/250W Power supply
I'd like to upgrade my motherboard, CPU and memory, but the rest will do me fine for years to come. The only other future upgrade I'm looking forward to is the Geforce FX. I figure it will cost around $600-800 to upgrade my system the way I want it. Maybe income tax will give me soem new goodies this year. :D
Getting back to greed... Greed is exactly why I'm not going to buy any gifts this year for Christmas. Christmas isn't about gift giving, it's about being with family. I refuse to give in to the greed-fest that's happening at stores all over America. People just blindly go to stores each year feeling obligated to buy stuff for others. Why not try something different this year? No gift swaps, just good family time. Buy a board game, or some cards. Sit down with family and have a good time enjoying each others company. There are so many things you can do besides swapping presents. I can see doing it for the kids, but not for adults.
That's my $0.02

well first off , its not a day to give kids presents :p thats what teh kids think. Christmas is saposed to be a day for family ( liek thanks giving only theres snow, also teh religious side of birth of Jesus, we are selebrating it, althout soem not nesaseraly oen of teh two )
and i think itsa good idea for adults and not just kids to anjoy teh gift giving, ( who give teh gifts anyways? " the adults 98% of teh time)
thats why its nice to also give to those peoepl who gave to u, anyways i dont buy stuff for my wholefamily , only to those im close to and i dont nesaseraly buy for all of them, i also make stuff for them and give to them, even a simple kinde letter, or spend tiem with them and share and help etc. i think most peopel are hung up on teh shoping part, teh fact is at teh end of teh day u are spending tiem with loved ones, teh gift part is like sprinkles on a chocolet cake etc.. its not teh most inportant but itsnice, it means u took teh time out to get soemthign for them, taht u where thinkign about them, and taht u wanted to give them anotehr reason to smile etc, and it DOESNT have to mean pay 100 bones.. etc.. and tahts my .02 cents :p
but i understand how ya feel, i just dotn agree taht adults should be left out in teh cold, hell my mom gave me alot growing up, wats a day or two out of teh year to get them soemthign to, specialy christmass when she had spent so much for me on my stuff on taht day when i was lil ;)
