StyleXP or Windows Blind...which is better

I was wondering what everyones opinion on which is better StyleXP or windows blind, I am using stylexp right now, but I have found that there are alot more skins out there for windows blind and wondered what everyones take was. If I go with windows blind for Xp where is the best place to found skins? I know of deviantart, but I am sure there is more

i also have stylexp, and have found some very nice skin with it (assuming you know how to tweak it and edit it to your needs), but i havnt tried windowblinds, last time i tried it was when it was in version 2, and it was a memory hog...

neither, because less resources are wasted by disabling visual themes altogether and just running XP with the classic Win 98 look and feel.

No. don't use either. StlyeXP rules, but there is a lesser known alternative freeware dll replacement you can use to use StyleXP themes.

It's called UxTheme Util.

As far as I know classic looks is just another "theme" so it uses just as much memory, etc...


PS: I use StyleXP because it's unintrusive, as Atmo pointed out.

Nah, "classic" is what you get when you turn off all the fancy, colorful, wasteful visual effects that come enabled by default in Windows XP, and then tell it to use the Win 98 style start menu.

Actually I use Win98 style start menu with StyleXP. It's a nice combo of efficiency and eye-candy :)

Hummmm... lets stack this up eh?
StyleXP - doesn't use system resorces if I don't want it to, allows me to save and make full configuration of themes (i.e. sounds, icons, backgrounds, etc), is very easy.
WindowsBlinds - uses up system resources like a bitch, doesn't let me save complete themes, is a pain in the a$$.

plus windows blinds is buggy :) plus it is a HACK of windows, really, while StyleXP is just using WindowsXP's own theme setup.

I used windowblinds for a while. It looks amazing and I didnt notice a performance hit. Maybe there might be a bit of a hit for pc's slower than 2 ghz dunno..

I've used Windowsblinds for years now. I like it better. Even now, there are very few good StyleXP themes. They are all pretty much recolorized versions of Luna, with one or two adjustments. There are thousands of Windowsblinds themes out there, and I'd say at least 250 (of the ones I've found, at least) are good. In the end, that's what counts. There's no use for a theme switcher if there are no good themes for it out there. Windowsblinds 2.x was buggy, slow, and wouldn't run well on anything less than a 1GHz machine. That's all changed with 3.x. I got it to run perfectly on a 500MHz Celeron with 96MB of SDRAM. It runs equally as well as StyleXP on my current Athlon XP 1800 with 512MB DDR box. I notice no difference at all in resource use. Also, no bugs. It even works well with programs that don't skin well such as Photoshop 6 and Trillian (Pro and otherwise). Windowsblinds 2.x and StyleXP would completely fudge up both programs.

I don't know what people are complaining about with regards to Windowsblind's obtrusiveness. It puts one icon in the systray, but you can configure to not display it. The actual configuration is via the Display Properties panel. Works well, and a logical choice.

I run Win98, using the default appearance "theme" with a black background. I suggest that you all do the same, seeing as my use of this combination has made everything else in my life run perfectly smoothly.

Because desktop themes matter.
