Is there any more development going on with MMD3? Just sorta got left up in the air at the end of lat year.

Have you ever heard of the theory of diminishing marginal return . At some point there must be the end to the production of a skin and the key is to determine exactly which point that is. After a certain amount of time and new features added, people would eventually become indifferent of any additions that are made to the skin as a result the time invested would not be worth the gained result.

Even worse, with time invested, some people may actully think that the skin has become to cluttered and bulky and this would eventually detract from the skin quality.

Perhaps my attached drawing would help explain this easier....

wow vica, couldnt have said it better.... MMD3 may be all the talk amoung normal users, but MMD3 raised the bar for all other skinners. soon you shall see some skins released that may in fact, superseed MMD3 by a long shot....

but there were that one small little vis linking feature and a very important docking feature i posted in the official mmd3 thread that everyone agreed would be good to have, and Barti Bartman never came back or even posted :(

I think there's more to be done. I know the author was planning on making a seperate dockable EQ window and other goodies. I suggested the dockable EQ window myself (back when my handle was PuddingShorts), so I'm especially anxious to see that. I think I recall a few posts mentioning he couldn't do certain things until Winamp "caught up" and fixed its own bugs. Such as the inability to show skin preview pics in the Preferences window. Or the way EQ slider settings mysteriously change themselves around.

I know MMD3 DFX skin updates are on hold until the DFX creators get the lead out of their ass and include support for colorthemes, docking, and resizing. DFX claims this is going to happen in the next DFX upgrade (6.2?) but they've never bothered giving an expected release date or any progress reports.

MMD3 has a few bugs still that I'm sure are going to be ironed out, such as the songticker width where the beginning and end of the ticker are obscured by the edges of the skin's graphic. For example, a song time of (3:14) shows up as (3:14 in the ticker, with the closing ) blocked off. Or a song with playlist entry 11. would show up as 1. in the ticker. Maybe there's an XML edit that could fix this. If so, I'd like to know it.

Surely, there are tons of things in future upgrades that could satisfy everyone just fine. Like a config window with slider bars for gamma values and checkboxes for boost and gray values so we can create and save our own colortheme presets. That's something that was probably suggested nonstop but probably would be difficult to do without a lot of work.

Anyways, every great skinner is at the point where you just have to take a vacation until Winamp3 gets a major upgrade. And as much as MMD3 is appreciated, I don't think Barti Bartman will just stop improving the greatest skin in the history of skins. He's literally a superstar in the world of skinning. Look at his past skins, such as MMD for Winamp2 and the DivX player. Those were great skins, but he never had the motivation to keep upgrading them. MMD3 is so huge that new versions are bound to keep coming. It's got an almost perfect rating at every site it is offered from.

MMD3 has evrything a guy wants... graphical looks, and exceptional coding. After making the best skin in history, maybe he wants to take a break.

Who knows, he could come out with MMD4 tommorrow and make us have a sezier... just be patient :)
