View Full Version : Trouble with .pls and .m3u files from Shoutcast running on Red Hat Linux 8.0

I have an instance of Shoutcast running on my Red Hat 8.0 Box. The whole point was for me to be able to stream my mp3's from home through Winamp at work. I can make a connection and listen to a single mp3 at a time, it goes through buffering and all that good stuff. The quality is even surprisingly good, but that's not the point.

If I try to point the location to a playlist (either .pls or .m3u) that I've created it won't play it, giving me the following error:

Invalid resource request(/content/upload/TheBends.m3u)

The playlist works, I use it all the time. Each song plays, I can do them individually using Winamp3. I've searched the archives for any information pertaining to this same problem, but most of them were a little different or not at all even close.

Has anyone heard of this problem, or are the limitations of Shoutcast such that I can't do what I'm looking for here. I can't run the Shoutcast from a Windows box since I don't have one at home, it's either going to be "On-demand" or nothing.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out!

Regards,

Did you go through the on-demand FAQ section?

Check out the Sticky post titled:
SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME!

Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled:
How to Setup On-Demand with SHOUTcast -> Sawg's Lame Rip-Off: On Demand Audio
How to Setup On-Demand with SHOUTcast -> On Demand Audio (Radio Toolbox)

I did read through it in fact, but there were a lot of pages with documentation missing... mostly the details I was looking for. The ideas for those programs are fantastic, but I'm not sure whether or not they will work and don't want to go through the hassle of attempting the install if I can just use SHOUTCAST base functionality.

Thanks for your reply.

you can only stream one song at a time using on-demand. make a playlist, download seperatly form the dnas (email it to yourself ect...) then play it. make sure all the entries point to your server.

Until I started using the latest version and with LiveIce doing the live stream, I was perfectly able to do a pls file and have it string several songs together in an "on demand" situation. Now it isn't working for me either.

I had links on my page to listen to individual songs using individual pls files with just the one mp3 listed and I could play an entire CD rip straight through by listing all the MP3s in the common pls file format.

Moved the server from RH 7.3 to RH 9.0 last night. Installed all the latest stuff from the shoutcast site and am using the DNAS this time rather than LiveIce. LiveIce never did get the metastreaming right. DNAS rocks at this.

On demand is still lagging and in fact, I can do a playlist still but the lag between songs is about 10-15 seconds in the list.
