Doesn't need that great of a system, but Diablo II LOD is my favorite game.

I've played Unreal II and it's a quality game...it's a bit short (or maybe I just play games too much) and REALLY heavy on the system resource utilization, but it has a decent (if cliched) plot and engaging gameplay, and it looks really fucking pretty, and has some great ambient effects (especially the lightning and thunder on some of the levels)...it's one of the best single-player first person shooters to come out in awhile, now if only they'll release a patch that gives it multiplayer capability...the world of Unreal 2 would make a MUCH better multiplayer environment than anything currently in UT2K3.

All the diabloes were fun for a while, but the replayability is horrible imo.

Did you play online? That has always kept me interested.

What about the fairly new WARCRAFT III ?
I sadly have yet to play it but it is said to
be one of the best RTS's around.

It's alright. I always liked starcraft more than warcraft. I don't know if the new starcraft is going to be up to blizzard's standards though. It is completely out of their normal gender of games. I hope it turns out well though. GO BLIZZARD!

Nicely done on the system.

Good games:
Warcraft III (just finished it)
Ghost Recon
C&C Red Alert 2 (kinda cheesy compared to the original, but still a good game)

Get a good multiplayer game. Like Tetris or Monopoly. Fun for hours.

WC3 is great...the single-player mode takes a LONG time to beat, especially if you refuse to play on the "easy" mode, and if you purchase a legitimate copy, you get to play on battle.net (or pvpgn.net with an illegal copy), and there are literally dozens of "mini-mod" sort of maps, as well as hundreds of new standard playmode maps to keep you occupied.

rofl ive been playin infantry for like 2 years.

btw i played a demo for Warcraft 3 and it didnt interest me that much. I kinda liked Hitman 2 but, i don't know wether or not the whole game is quality. Mafia looks pretty good too, but I'm not gonna buy anything until i've hard from a few people about it.

Guess what my first PC game was? STARCRAFT! Damn strait, and there's
no other game like it. Sure there's WARCRAFT and other games but nothing compares to STARCRAFT. The reason for not owning a PC game before StarCraft is because I also Love Nintendo and Sony.

Other good PC Games:

- COMMANDOS 1 and 2
- Return to Castle Wolfentsein
- EverQuest (only if you like RPG's)
- Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

Get your game face on :weird: or

I kinda liked Hitman 2 but, i don't know wether or not the whole game is quality.

Hitman 2 - short game, good concept but not the best implementation...most people will likely find it far more satisfying to rely on brute force to make it through a level rather than stealth (which is what the game tries to encourage). Movement is also a pain in the ass, as running will cause people to be suspicious, walking is too slow, and the "silent mode" is WAY too fucking slow...like I said, the concept behind it is interesting, but it doesn't really work out all that well in my opinion.

Well here's some games that would test out the hardware of your system:

Elder Scrolls III Morrowind - most graphically intensive game out there.

No One Lives Forever 2 - Great music, fun to play

Soldier of Fortune2: Double Helix - Great stress-reliever game

Quake 3: Team Arena with max out bots..

America's Army - Too damn realistic, either d/l off net or pay $15-20
at the store. It includes strategy guide and some nifty things.

Quake 3 Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein are by 2 favorite PC games. :)

That's a nice setup LawnGnome, but If you really need a good monitor try looking on eBay or go to www.merkortech.com , you can get a real good used 21" flat screen Monitor like mine for about $250 or less :)

I'm gonna be doing a little bit of upgrading too in the next few months. Starting with a new Video card.

Masters of Orion 3 will be out in stores in less than two week. Save your bills and buy a quality game- who cares about testing out your system when you can really be testing out your mind.

I am so going to dissapear off these forums when that hits the shelves...

My favorite, fairly-new PC game list:

- Ghost Recon (with all expansions) - Dear God, I love this game. Basically an infinite number of weapons, since you can download them from fan sites. Great physics, graphics, gameplay, storyline, etc...
- Splinter Cell (coming out on Feb. 18) - Best stealth shooter. Ever.
- Mafia - It's a great 1930s version of GTA3. Awesome storyline, graphics, and gameplay.
- Soldier of Fortune 2: The game I've been playing online since November. Just switched to Ghost Recon though.
- Raven Shield (coming out soon, forgot when) - Played the demo, looks awesome.

haha i loved the original hitman. the whole stealth thing was awesome. the game got frustrating but that's how it weeded out the "bad" players. once you got good at the stealth it was really rewarding. i don't own the game anymore (lent it out to someone i never saw again) but i remember being able to beat the entire game with just the knife and the piano wire. now THAT'S stealth.

i rented hitman 2 for the ps2 for a few weeks this christmas, but didn't have the time to get past the first level because of work. what i played was fun though. when i have a few bucks to spare perhaps i'll buy it, but with my current rent situation i don't foresee that happening.

unreal II was a big let-down for me :( your guy moves like a slug.

i love UT2003 though, high recommendation from me. also deus ex is well worth a play on any system, even if it's way above the specs.

hmm... i've heard people swear by this game also. What is so good about it? I haven't tried it yet. Isn't it just like a glorified RTS? Does it have multiplayer capabilities?

Its turn based strategy, and yes it does have multiplayer capabilities. It's about 6 or 7 years old now, so it might be a bit hard to find - maybe abandonware sites will have it, but im not really sure.

It's hard to pick one part of the game that stands out, as every part of it is extremely well done, but probably that no matter how many times you play it it can still be a challenging game (especially at the difficult and impossible levels). The graphics suck compared to newer games, but you really dont notice it after a while.

It's kinda hard to think of another game that's similar, star trek: birth of the federation was made in the same style but was nowhere near as good.

If you like strategy games it's definately worth checking out.

so should i get MOO 1 and start from the beginning, or could I go directly into MOO3 without having any problems. I've never played much strategy games except for Ogre Battle on snes, but I loved that one, so I will probly like MOO.

I've never played MOO1, and in M002 there really isnt much storyline involved, so you could probably skip both and just play 3.

If you can get your hands on a copy of 2 its worth it though.

I played Moo1. It was the second computer game I ever bought in the early nineties (the first being Sierra's lamentable "Outpost")

Moo2 is a huge improvement over moo1 in several ways, but moo1 did have its points. To this day there are still people who play the first over the second. Moo2 players who started with 2 will never have realized the joy of 32,000 frigate fleets. 1 didn't have custom races, but all of the races had a chance of winning- it usually ended up being a battle between the Psilons, Sakkra, Meklars and the BLASTED silicoids. Number 2 has uneven races, but also custom races.
Just thinking about 1... ohhhhh. Black Hole Generators... death rays... were much better in 1 :)

I reccomend number 2 for starting out though- it is right now probably the best computer game ever created, hitherto the release of moo3. It is a winning blend of strategy, tactics, and diplomacy. I think a huge part of it is also the very simple yet complex spaceship ship design- where eventually you have fleets of your specific designs running around. There is simply nothing else like it. :)

I sense Atmo is going to dissapear with me and indefinitely stop all skinning all projects when 3 comes out. Just watch. :p

The powwwwer of the ancients is now yours to command.... you have crushhhed all opposition b'neath your heel... :)

it's an advanced & revolutionery RTS that will be arriving in April.
I would like to know what you would say about it Xerxes. Check its new features, example Macro and Micro managing, the nation borders, the zooming, etc..

Plus noone mentioned Age of Kings II here..strange..
