hmmmm,

having a few tiny problems, but can't believe no-one's seen it before.

Playback of WMAs and MP3s sounds bad... It sounds like the vocals are being sung in a can or that very short segments are garbled. But the rest of the audio sounds okay. Like if you use an EQ to try and cut the vocals to make an instrumental version. Add a bit of digital noise and that's what I'm getting.

I've ruled out winamp, it happens with media player too. I've ruled out the soundcard, I swapped it for a different one (different make and model) and the problem persists.

I've ruled out the audio files as they play fine on other machines and this problem comes and goes on my machine - it can be playing fine and then suddenly it just switches and the vocals disappear!

It's not the headphones, I've swapped those...

I've re-installed the windows WMA codecs, so it shouldn't be those.

any ideas where to look next?

Hmm...maybe you should post this at one of the Tech Support Forums. I'm sure they can help you

Have you tried updating your sound card drivers? Windows Updates?

Don't repost, just wait for a friendly mod to come along and move it.

What's the machines current specs? What brand and model was the other card? Does playing CD's do the same thing? What about other compressed/uncompressed audio does it?..Ogg, Wav, etc.

Anything else you can think to mention...
