push a button to switch from full screen back to desktop mode and back if you want without ever having to go to preferences. Both me and Christie think this would be really smooth. We also have another wish which we will post after we figure out if it is possible or not. SM and Christie

What are you trying to figure out?

StudioMusic
12th March 2003, 03:28
idiot take no offennce on me right now but I am too fuck up to even remember what the crazy mechanism that I thought of right now. I have been watching the mod I made of Unchained and Rova just anit right for the last hour and at the same time trying to figure out if I am going to be Ok. I love MD and Christie too. I will get back to ya when I can figure it out again. If you have a wish for MD though I would like to know what it is. SM and Christie

I forgot to mention idiot that you must like Linkin Park too. I did not like them much until they came out with their new album which really moves MD and sounds almost as good as Christie. They are killer with MD. SM

Also I made a mistake I mean't from fullscreen to window mode not desktop mode although all three would be Ok too. Bad mistake. SM and Christie

I've been an LP fan since right before they got big.

One more wish for MD when the list of presets are showing you can say push K and go to Krash's presets, will when your playlist is showing it would be nice to push say S and go to Saliva. Geiss I hope I am not overloading you with wishes. If you do make 1.04 it would be really cool if you can do it. SM

yeap nice wishes I have many and will encourage more when Ryan gets of his lazy arse and does something. :);)

Hopefully soon.

One more wish for 1.04 and I know all this belongs on the feature request list but I like to put it here. Now hopefully I can explain this right. When MD is playing in fullscreen you can adjust the volume on winamp by using the up/down arrows, but you do not know where the volume slider is at on winamp because in fullscreen you can not see anything but the presets and print. So my wish is to have a meter or something similar that shows where your volume is at, so you know if you can still turn it up more or not. I am not sure how you would implement this Ryan but maybe have a counter popup when you use the arrow keys that would say 0 to 100 or something with 100 at the loudest volume and then if you still need it louder you have to use your other adjustments ( windows volume control, power for speakers, etc ) but at least you know when you have maxed out winamp's volume. Also I am not even sure you can do this, but I hope you can. SM

Here's a few for the wish list

1. on beat sprites
2. sprites can burn out without being unloaded
3. presets that use % values of other presets sort of the way transitions work
4. being able to call sprites from preset code
5. Saving preset in middle of transition
6. Frameless windowed mode

I know I've brought up a few of these before but I'm sure the thread is burried pretty deep.

That's alredy possible... just write a beat reaction code in milk_img.ini to let the sprite react to the beat (color/movement, size, scaling, etc)

...is for you to fix the Nvidia blitting problem... i mean fuck, im using a Nvidia GeForce4 TI4400 and my absolute favorite visualization runs like complete shit now.

ryan

The blitting problem isn't a but with Milkdrop, It's a hardware issue.

Eon_Blue
13th May 2003, 04:33
i know it's a hardware issue... its an issue for anyone with an Nvidia card... which is a good majority of us... But you are saying there is ABSOLUTELY no way to make Milkdrop more compatable with Nvidia Cards? I mean, for me milkdrop is completely useless now... it runs slow, and distorts the sound.

Eon_Blue
13th May 2003, 04:37
And also, it seems a bit odd that I've been using Nvidia cards for the past 3 years, and have had milkdrop for as long as I can remember... but this problem only started to occur within the last 6 months.... it just doesn't make sense for it to be COMPLETELY hardware related, when i've used the same 2 cards for the past few years.

nvidia cards can't do the desktop mode 'cause of the way they and ryan have implemented D3D overlays (but you already knew that)

If you can't run milkdrop at all with an nvidia card (or it's horrendously slow), you need to reinstall your video drivers, and possibly directX. You may need to downgrade you drivers, particularly if you have installed the driverset optimised for the GFFX (forget which version number).

yeah... i'm not trying to use desktop mode. I'm just trying to use fullscreen mode.

I'm using a GF4 TI4400 with the 43.45 detonator drivers found here:
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_43.45

I've tried downgrading videocard drivers, but had the same problem.
I even downgraded farther than before the FX existed.

I've got the newest DX, and i'm not going to downgrade that.

I'll try reinstalling everything though

Eon_Blue
13th May 2003, 21:57
uninstalled video drivers
reinstalled video drivers
reinstalled newest directx
reinstalled milkdrop

exact same problem

I also find it funny that on my old 366Mhz gateway w/ GeForce2, 192MB PC66 SDRAM , and old ass video drivers, I can run milkdrop smoothly at 32x800x600 and keep it between 20 and 30 FPS. (With no sound distortion either)

But on my 1.67Ghz Athlon w/ GeForce4 TI4400, new drivers, newest DX, 512MB PC2100 DDR RAM, i get no better than 30FPS, and at times when the FPS lowers it distorts the sound extremely. All of this with the same video settings.

I mean, seriously, something is messed up here.. and i dont think its a hardware problem

Running at 32x1024x768:

Rovastar & Illusion - Shifting Sphere (48.1FPS No Distortion)
Rovastar & Krash - Cerebral Demons (Lowers to 22FPS with extreme distortion)

Arragh this thread is all over the place. Cannot be bvother to split for now takes too long.

What version of winamp are you using and try an older version 2.8 or somethibng from winamp heaven. google for it as ther page keeps moving

i was using the newest version of 2.xx I tried 2.8 and 2.72, both with same problem.

Please, please, please.

I'll have papa john's delivered to your house.

MIDI I/O - I wrote a program that translates my midi data into keystrokes. Knobs are way better than buttons. I only wish I could control the knobs resolution.

VIDEO CAPTURE - I currently have to run milkdrop out my video card composite, which looks like butt. If I could use an AIW to create the milkdrop and then drop in a video capture feed my signal from computer to projector could stay VGA and therefore make milkdrop look way more impressive.

MORE ALPHA PLANES - It's great that I can duplicate the main plane with the second plane alpha, but wouldn't it be phizatt if you could also duplicate the combination of the 1 and 2 planes into a 3rd plane? Or how about duplicating those planes with a 4th plane? Oh yeah.

Give these three a chance,

-Esotic

Esotic: sounds like version 4 additions to milkdrop not 1.04.

but how about this, A remote software access to the milkdrop window handle, HWND so we (or someone) can change the color or insert video onto the backdrop from and outside program.

changing the background from black to another color has come up a few times. inserting video comes up a lot.

Aim High, like the Air Force. :)

Anyone with an idea to extend MilkDrop is on an honorably forward thinking path. I can only hope that one day our dreams become virtual reality.

ive been thinking about the midi thing, and CC message to edit presets would be awesome. but it is far enough advanced idea that it would be a product evolution not a increment.

although its probably not imposible because of the menuing tht already exists. all it would need to do is open a midiport and look for the CC messages convert the range and apply it to parameters that already exist as registers im sure. no need for any midi statndards as they dont really apply, just assign cc 1 to menu item 1 and so on.

its not that far feched.

milkdrop REALTIME edition, wooo hooo!

What would rule even more is if you could attach a little bit of code to each channels on/off and controllers change event. Then you could use the controllers to modulate User Vars used inside the preset instead of just the predefined milkdrop vars (dx, dy, rot, zoom, gamma = my faves).

The knobs on my sampler don't have start and end points, but once the value reaches the max (or min) it won't increase (or decrease) it from there, so my MIDI message to KeyStroke translator resets the controller to it's middle value when it's hit an extreme. Very handy when you wanna keep rolling that DX, DY, or ROT into infinity.

And having bits of code would also allow for varying "velocities" or "resolutions" of adjustment. Sometimes you want to fine tune and sometimes you want big sweeps, so you could program in acceleration. The current KeyStroke mechanism gets to looking like more of a "jump" than a "slide" unless I'm really rolling on it.

I am a software engineer and i know how they work. digital video stuff normally but MIDI is a hobby.

and what you are saying is do-able but quite difficult, and probably overwhelming, and somtimes that shuts down the process alltogether.

if you start out asking for babysteps the other will evolve, quickly.

CC messages to control existing parameter could probably be done in an evening. adding user code adjustable parameters will take much longer and possibly not work at all.

adding the ability to change background color and making the window handel available is super easy and could definitly be added to the next revision.

Rovastar & Krash - Cerebral Demons 50-60fps @800*600*32

System specs:
Athlon 1.2Ghz
Geforce 3 Ti200
DX 8.1
Det 43.51 (newest WHQL)
