Ok I just loaded BF1942 up and when it started the game was offcenter. About 1/5 of the game was off my screen. Now I could fix this with the settings on my monitor, but then when I go back to the desktop it's offcenter. How can I fix this?

It's because the game is running in a different resolution, and many monitors don't keep appropriate settings when you switch resolutions. Changing it each time does seem to fix it after a couple of times.

I've changed the resolution back and forth 16 times and its still offcenter. It even goes offcenter when I switch my desktop to that res.

Try changing your desktop to that res and then running the game. Does it do it then?

When I change my desktop to that res, it goes offcenter.

For some reason adjusting a 1280x1024, 32 bit @60hz image messes up my average desktop res of 1600x1200@85hz on my sony monitor. Other resolutions seem fine, but as some games will only allow you to go up to 1280x1024 (ms motocross madness 2 for example) it's a pain in the arse. It is to be expected though, as i think i've probably saved 15 or so different refresh rates in that monitor already.

But there is a fix. If you have a nvidia card with 40 series drivers then go into display properties and use the override refresh rates control (see image attached). Just mess around with the settings until you find an acceptable refresh rate that displays properly at the resolution you want to use.

Ok now help me fix this. I ran that program and changed the refresh rates. It asked me to restart, so I did. But now right after the windows start-up screen my monitor just goes black then displays "Out Of Range". On the computer upstairs now.

Ok, you've set your desktop to a refresh rate higher than the monitor can handle.

Simple fix though, reboot, press F8 at startup and choose safe mode it'll start windows at 800x600@60hz. Then open up the utility and reset it to a refresh rate you know your monitor can handle.
