Everybody should see this movie. even if you don't like eminem. it is a great movie, you have to see it or you are missing a great movie

the movie its self is not based on eminem's life, it just has some parts that are simalyer thats all. And i think for a first time acter in a movie, he did really well. Its a good movie, and his songs kick ass!!!!!!!!

I didn't think the movie was THAT great. It was the usual plot of a poor guy that suddenly had success in his life because he believed in himself (as if that would really work)

The freestyle battles were cool though :D

I agree with Mia :D

Xtreem
19th March 2003, 17:35
huh ? of course it would, and the movie is based on Eminems true story, it's not as good as Menace II society or Juice but it's real.
and for me it's the most important thing in a movie about hip-hop.
reality...

Some of the things that happened are exactly as they happened in Em's life, some are similar, and some are totaly made up. Same goes for the characters.

eminem. sucks. that's all there is to it.

however i have seen clips from the movie and it looks like it could be good...might need to see it. i'd have to end up downloading it tho cos my parent's wouldn't exactly rent it for me (and i'm a loser without a job (i.e. broke like bill gates minus his money)), so...I guess I ain't gonna see it :p

I don't plan on watching it. I won't support Eminem. Nor will I support god-awful music like the kind he makes. Nor the money-grubbing machine that puts out this kind of drivel. Eminem sucks donkey cock. As for making a fifth of what Eminem makes... you must really be brainwashed by the whole fake lifestyle and his crappy music. The idea of "you must be jealous because..." doesn't hold water. Simply put, I don't like that kind of music or idiots like Eminem who try to be something they're not. I don't have any respect for someone that intentionally tries to sound cool by speaking in 'ebonics'. The whole act is childish. 8 miles is the distance I'm staying from this steaming pile.

But I'm glad cause they feed me the fuel that I need for the fire
to burn and it's burnin and I have returned

I'm so sick and tired of bein admired
that I wish that I would just die or get fired
and dropped from my label and stop with the fables
I'm not gonna be able to top on "My Name is.."
And pigeon-holed into some pop-py sensation
to cop me rotation at rock'n'roll stations
And I just do not got the patience (got the patience)..
to deal with these cocky caucasians who think
I'm some wigger who just tries to be black cause I talk
with an accent, and grab on my balls, so they always keep askin
the same fuckin questions (fuckin questions)..
What school did I go to, what hood I grew up in
The why, the who what when, the where, and the how
'til I'm grabbin my hair and I'm tearin it out
cause they drivin me crazy (drivin me crazy).. I can't take it
I'm racin, I'm pacin, I stand and I sit
And I'm thankful for ev-ery fan that I get
But I can't take a SHIT, in the bathroom
without someone standin by it

ok, quick tip. trying to talk "ghetto" online jsut makes you sound more like an ignorant asshole, even more than it does in real life. So try to learn to talk liek someone who has had more than 3 years of schooling? ok? or shoudl i say, ya dig?

I don't care if I took part in Eminem's 'making'. He's just like the rest before him. He's a marketing tool. A money-maker for the music machine. The only reason he makes money is because kids like you think he's cool. It's an ageless formula to get kids to buy the music. As long as they have you brainwashed you'll keep buying any piece of shit they put on the shelves. Ever wondered why they don't focus on the adults? Teenagers are easily influenced. It's been that way since the 1970's (maybe before that). Money is all they're after, not the quality of music. You fell for it. I guess it's you that's the sucker, not us.

CGFIEND - "don't like that kind of music or idiots like Eminem who try to be something they're not." SHUT THE FUCK UP!! HE IS NOT AN IDIOT AND HE ISNT TRYING TO BE SOME ONE HE'S NOT !! lol. See how irate you are? It has a direct link to his music and its seemingly inexplicable influence on your pea-sized brain. I didn't come here to flame you, but you flamed me. Grow up moron. 10 years from now you'll look back an say, "Damn, why did I like that dumbass Eminem dude? I was a contributer to his fortune, because I thought his music was cool." Upon that realization you'll look back and think of this thread and say to yourself, "I should've listened. He was right." I don't expect you to understand it now, with Eminem's harshest words still swimming in your head, but someday you will understand. I used to think the same way back when I was a teenager. I fell into the whole gangsta rap idiocy, but it only lasted a year or two. I snapped out of it and realized how stupid and moronic the whole thing was. How it was aimed at the kids. I also saw through the childish act of trying to be cool. The dork-assed ebonics accent. The waving of the arms and pointing at nowhere. The whole act has become nauseating. Noone else acts like that, just rappers. It's so obvious, yet you don't see it. Keep on believing this fruitcake and his sob stories. You're the one feeding his pockets and his popularity. I like music where people actually play instruments themselves and sing, not talk. People with real talent. These are the same people ripped off by wanna-be "artists" like Eminem.

I sit back with this pack of Zig Zags and this bag
of this weed it gives me the shit needed to be
the most meanest MC on this -- on this Earth

Good ole healthy American values. You want your kids listening to this shit? I don't. Hey kids, it's ok for you to smoke weed. You don't need those extra brain cells. You can ramble like Eminem into a microphone to a cheezy partial beat that was ripped from someone with REAL TALENT. The record companies will pay you big money if you can just be controversial and get the kids stirred up. Get them to buy your sob story about the ghetto and having such a shitty life. This formula always works. Then when you get a name for yourself, we'll change the formula and make you a total rebel against the machine. That'll keep them hooked. Just take another toke on this here joint. Everything's gonna be ok.

The meanest MC on Earth? lol 90% of the population could care less about his music. That hardly makes him an icon. Considering most of his fan-base are kids and teenagers, I don't think it counts when you're influencing the minds of children.

I didn't grow up with a silver spoon either. I know what it's like to be poor. Maybe I didn't have to "live on the streets", but I rose above the adversity. Everyone can with the right people behind them (i.e. parents).

Instead of talking like a normal human being you come on this thread and say "Fuck You" first and then explain why you said it. Sounds pretty childish to me to start dismissing others for their own opinions with harsh words like that. I didn't do a damn thing to you. I simply said how I felt. The way I feel about this particular topic isn't going to change. I doubt your opinion's going to change either.

Try listening to music that's a little more positive and you might not have that kind of attitude.

Swearing to other people bothers others, as many other people have stated the dislike for the flaming!
as for what music I like?
I like Trance Techno, HardTrance Techno, Drum and base techno, well, all forms of techno, from Dance all the way to Metal Techno.
Techno or Rave music in Europe is more popular than rap. so we are even, Xtreem. What I like is good, and what you like is good. It's just difficult for one another to except this. I don't like rap myself but that doesn't mean I'm gonna tell you that your music sucks shit, because I can think of that quietly in my head, and the same goes for you. There are more than 50 different styles of Techno existing today. Techno continues to grow and expand its artistic expression unlike rap/hip-hop/R&B/old school/new school/ragge. Your type of music started with 4 styles in the 80's and then grew into around 10 different styles today, where mine is 50 plus! My music naturally allows me to grow and expand my exceptance of art. My type of music allows me to be free from restraints or closed minded thoughts or ideas. Techno is loved more around the world than rap. Techno is ever so popular in all of Europe including Spain, Greece, Russia, Italy, etc.. As well as the Middle East, India, Pakistan, etc.. It is also loved greatly in Japan. Have you heard of a Russian or Italian or Indian rap artist lately? No? Hmmm...
Techno exists in almost every country - Canada, USA, BAZIL, - here let me go by continents -- around 40% of North America, around 55% of South America, around 78% of Europe, Around 80% of Asia(china & Japan), Around 30% of Africa, Around 60% of Australia, nothing for rap or Techno in Antarctica. some of those continents have less than 30% for your so called rap. There are more Rave clubs in the world that play pure Techno than your rap. Game Music and Movie Music use forms of Techno. Eminem was wrong when he said Techno was dead on some award show. Do I like Moby? NO!!! That guy has some issues and is not for me.

Actually, rap uses Techno styles for the music(beats, bass, samples, etc.) Therefor, Rap is technically a type of Techno, which means:
You know when Eminem said he hated Techno, and that Techno is dead? Well, because rap is technically a form of Techno, Eminem, therefore technically just stated that he hates his music and that he thinks his music is dead. This makes him a hypocrite. Hey, just stating the facts here.

so that's what I have to say about that.

techno rocks. And if rap "artists" are so creative, i'd liek to see them mix a two and a half hour mega mix like some of the tance CD's i have are. I do like some rap, and of all teh rap people out there, eminem, i think, is one of the best. What he raps about isn't the same ol' "watch me smoke weed w/ my bitches while poppin a cap in the hood while rollin in my bently w/ dubs" Eminem raps abuot real shit in teh world. All in all tho, one artist doesn't make me like the whole genre. I havn't found a trance/techno mix that i couldn't bob my head too. Rap, bleck. If i saw more artists out thre like eminem, i'd like it more. Example: Nas' new "I can" song. I like that a lot. Very inspirational and with an excellent message to doay's youth.

I enjoy a lot of techno. Especially in MOD format (MOD music files). I've been collecting those for years. The best thing is most of them are instrumentals. Techno takes everything good about electronic music and puts it to use with unique styles. I hardly consider rap as a form of techno, but that's just my opinion. The only kind of techno I can't stand is the music with long periods of the same repetitive beats and samples with no real variation. That just drives me insane. Otherwise, techno rocks. I tend to like artists that expand the genre into new avenues and don't use the same old drum beats and samples. I can't stand rap.

Afro American people have always used verbal or the oral tradition to convey history. As Afro Americans used these traditions they started to use more and more entertaining words and making the story more animated. Did you know that this is the first time that Hip Hop came to be? Back in the days of slavery when slaves were on the plantation singing spirtual songs they were using a form of rap music. How, you may ask? These slaves had no instruments: they used beats from any object that they got their hands on. Whatever was on the slaves' minds they sung about. Sometimes they would sing about being free like the bird. They would also sing about going back home. While they were on the porch or in the back yard other slaves would join in and add their two cents. Much like the hip hop-rap music of today. After some raps other person starts to take over.
Hip Hop music is also in the black church. How so, you may ask? The call and response of the preacher. The preacher calls out and says 'church can I get an Amen,' and the church response with the amen. Like today when a rap artist yells out 'give me a ho ho,' and the audinces shouts back with a 'ho ho.'But you may be saying that what does this has to do with the hip hop music that I know of today? Well, there is a DJ from Kingston, Jamaica who moved to New York City and started reciting rhymes over the instrumental versions of records. So being that most instrument versions were very short this early DJ started using a mixer to make the insturmental versions longer. The mixer would allow for the instrumental part to be played over and over again. At some parties in the early 70's many people thought that an actual song did last for 15 minutes. But all the while it was the DJ mixing it to make it last that long. The reason why this type of music is so popular today is because it offer urban youth a chance to freely express how they feel[unlike in techno]. There are very limited rules in hip hop: just be orginal. You can rap about anything: the moon, how you feel, how your girl feels, anything. Most rhymes are prewritten, but it is a sin to recite the rhymes off of paper[techno is all alike]. This is where the orginal concept comes in. Many times what was written on paper is forgetten at concerts and the rapper just starts rapping off the top of his or her head[free style, you cant do this in techno].Hip hop takes on on many forms, cutting and scratching a record, break dancing, graffiti art, double dutch dancing.

During the late 90's hip hop took on a new level. Hip Hop went mainstream in term of fashions. Many hip hop artists now own clothing lines and the clothes have been shown on many international fashion shows, thus bringing hip hop into a new level.During this same period many magazines on the Hip Hop life have been added. There are magazines that tell of the different clothes that are out and there are many articles written in these magazines about upcoming concerts.

So from this little history of hip hop we have seen that hip hop is a form of music that has been around a while. [way way back before 80's KnightCandy]

Hip hop is a lifestyle that many people like because it is very orginal and is an outlet for free expression. Hip hop is now urban, and can be found in almost every city, town and village in the United States[and worldwide]. Hip hop, due to the Internet, is also going global. So what started out as kids having fun is now an international statement. so... SHUT the hell up lol and I'm not flaming, it started way before the 80's KnightFairy, and I dont know much about techno music all I know is; there are no 50 different styles in techno. indian as Native American or Indie ?? there's Indie hip-hop and rap, I dont remember the name but theres a tottaly awesome indie rap video that runs on MTV... etc etc.. I don't care how rap originated. I still don't like it. Most of it sends a negative message in the lyrics. Most of the people that make this kind of music are fake to themselves and everybody else. Take L.L. Cool J for instance. He recently starred in a sitcom or two. What happened to the constant lip licking, ebonics and strut? What happened to the rapper mannerisms? They just disappeared. Why? Because it's FAKE. It's a show. People think they look cool acting like these morons. Waving their arms around and using jargon they think sounds cool. When they aren't in front of the camera or in public the charade is dropped. I find this kind of behavior repulsive and childish. If you can't act like a normal human being then I have no respect for you as an artist.

Maybe rap had good beginnings, but it went wrong in the mid-to-late 80's. Groups like the Furious Five, Sugar Hill Gang, UTFO, Midnight Star--back in the breakdance days--these groups were the kind of rap I liked. At least they had positive messages in their music and there was real expression---breakdancing. You just can't find that anymore. Nowadays they want to be something they are not. In the end, the "lifestyle" is empty and stupid. It's all about ego and looking good in front of others. I just don't have the time of day for these idiots. That's how I feel.

Grandmaster Flash is a perfect example of a great artist. He was the father of rap music as we know it. This man has some real talent. Chris Rock has him on his HBO show. Even Chris Rock can't stand the kind of rap music being put out today and he makes fun of it all the time.

Rap, like kiddie pop, is a money machine. You can blame that on the music labels. As long as the lyrics are controversial you're bound to get the kids' attention and that's where the real money comes from.

What kind of message do you think it sends to kids when they see rappers on MTV (which, by the way, is totally rap now and sucks ass) with scantily clad women rubbing all over them, expensive cars, smoking pot, mistreating women, cussing every other word. It's all a bad influence on our kids. Teenagers and pre-teens. The music is based on a fake lifestyle and fake people.

you don't care how rap originated, but you care about its bad influence on your children ? how about all the violence on tv screens ? how about all the pornography ? what do you think your kids thinking when they're watching an entire city being air attacked on the news ?? what about that ?? and if you were asking yourself why "In the end, the "lifestyle" is empty and stupid"??
you probably would've come to conclusion that life is empty and stupid. you cant rap about negative things when you see things positive, you cant rap "Life's a bitch" if your life's nothing but heaven. people are just tired... sick and tired of the same shit every day. HIP-HOP is life, and its content is about life of the performer, if it's all good you see em "with scantily clad women rubbing all over them, and driving expensive cars" cause they living on top! so why the hell not?? Wu-Tang were rapping about the ghetto of New York, but what happend to the ghetto now ? their pockets are full and they are enjoying their lives, so what's wrong with that ?
every individual brings out what is within him. I agree there's alot of fake going on, and this is because they have nothing left to say.

the difference there is that is real. that is history. that is something they need to learn about. I would much rather teach my little sister's why that building jsut got blown up and why those troops got shot. Why? Because i could teach them about foreign poloicy, and human rights. Now how would i go about explaining why "mr. rappper" talks about shooting people. Becasue teh person across the street is wearing the wrong colours? Because one man is havving an affair with teh shooters wife? Because there was a bad drug deal? Not exzactly the types of morals i would want to teach my younger siblings (and futre children) about.

Rap has nothing to do with the war on terrorism. Comparing rap lyrics and the war on terrorism just doesn't work. Yes, there is a lot of violence and sex on television. That's why I don't watch much of and and that's why (if I had kids) my kids won't watch anything that could be a bad influence. That includes rap music about doing drugs, pimping, breaking the law, treating women bad, unprovoked violence, etc.

These people portray themselves as something they're not. Talking about killing people, women are bitches, selling drugs, etc. You want your kids listening to that kind of crap? I don't. It's bullshit.

As for those talking about their hardships, I can deal with that ok, but when your message is all negative you have a good chance of influencing young minds. People like Marshall Mathers are always complaining about something. If like is so freaking bad, then why the hell not shoot yourself and get it overwith. I'm so sick of hearing the sob stories about how "I grew up on the streets". Boo-freaking-hoo. Instead of focusing on the positive in their lives they focus on the negative and turn it into a message of hate and doing illegal acts. How many other music genres do you see that do that? If a person stepped up as a rap artist that didn't act like an ebonics-spewing gesturizing buffoon then I might give them the time of day. Normal people don't talk or act like that.

every individual brings out what is within him. I agree there's alot of fake going on, and this is because they have nothing left to say.
but what can we do about it ? what can we tell the children ? what would you say if you had the microphone ??? *hands cgfiend a Sure*

What would I say? I'd speak about how wonderful life is. Love, life, family, nature. A perfect song for me would be a walk in nature, enjoying the breeze, the warmth, the sounds of the birds. I'd definitely have a few patriotic songs as well. I'd also have a couple songs about funny things that have happened in my life. Stuff that would make you laugh. BUT, if I were to be a rapper I definitely wouldn't act cool or speak with an ebonic accent. I'd be me. People would either accept it or not. Something tells me it would be a refreshing change from the crap you hear today. A nice cover tune would be Summer Breeze (by Seals and Croft). One thing is for sure... if I were at all interested in the rap genre and I were going to be a rapper I wouldn't be fake or act like someone I'm not. I'd stand in front of the camera as a real person, not a front that people think looks cool. That's how I'd do it. I used to be into rap back in the early 80's and I wrote my own rap lyrics. I just don't have interest in it the way it is today. I grew out of rap. I saw through the facade of it all. To this day I still have a sizeable collection of vintage (early 80's) rap. The music I grew up on. Music with positive messages. Artists back then didn't have to resort to acting fake to be successful. Why does it have to be that way now? Look at Will Smith. He always had a positive message in his music. It can be done.

the building got blown up because the evil dictator violted his peoples rights. he killed his own people and threatned to kill many other peoplenot only in his own country but in others as well. we tried to give him a chance to cahnge his ways, we gave him 12 years, but he wouldn't listen, so the only way we can be sure that th epeople stay safe is to make him leave, and that, my friend, is by killing him. By killing those few men, we can in turn save the lives of hundrads, even thousands of innocent lives.

So you're anti-American now too, eh? The idea is to rid Saddam of weapons of mass destruction. Weapons that could end up in America, at your own doorstep. Terrorist groups have been given safe haven in Iraq. Put the two together and you'll realize that terrorism and Saddam go hand in hand. That's not counting the torture and death the Iraqi people have been put through over the decades. Did you hear about the plastic shredder? If you're lucky they put you in head first and you die quick. If you're not so lucky they put you in feet first and it's a slow painful death. What about the acid baths? The torture rooms? And you can still sit there and say it's ok to let all of these things happen?

News flash - Iraq may have some POW's already. Just saw it a couple minutes ago---they now have video on Al-Jazeera of American POW's that were executed... gruesome videos of severe head wounds... a violation of the Geneva Convention on POW's. You think you're safe with this man in power? With this country harboring terrorists?

Somehow I think if it affected you directly, or your family, you'd feel differently. You'd change your mind pretty quick.

You're pissing on the graves of all that died to give you the fucking right to sit on your ass and share your opinion on this forum. So shut the fuck up and have some respect for those putting their lives on the line to make sure you have freedom!

go to the streets and tell it to those who protest against unjastified war and have their sons dieing for the goverments idiotism at peaks! the mass destruction weapons is all made up and the Iraqi people freedom is all made up for YOU American patriot to believe, this war is about Iraqi oil !! don't you think if Iraqis had any weapons of mass destruction U.S. would take any precations before invading the territory of Iraq ?? and if Saddam had any chemical or biological weapons don't you think he would've used it by now ? this war is about oil... the UN inspectors [plan A] did not work, they didnt find anything, the gov. moved to plan B - invasion Iraq! this war is pointless. people die for nothing, Iraqis are not responsible for 9/11 Saddam has notihng to with it. you can prove me wrong, but you will not change my opinion about this situation.
why Saddam ? why not Arafat ? where the fuck is Bin Laden ? billions of U.S. dollars spent for nothing! this "war on Iraq" has nothing to do with war on terror, unless you think all the Arabs are terrorists.

Considering the fact that the majority of the oil imported is from CANADA, it's highly unlikely we would go all the way to Iraq if we wanted to seize oil from a country. Oil isn't what we're after. What've you been smokin'? Saddam has already used Scuds, which ARE in violation of the UN resolutions. Just because he hasn't used chemical/biological weapons yet doesn't mean he doesn't have them. So your argument just fell through---IRAQ HAS WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. More will be found.

Saddam is harboring (in Baghdad) the same terrorist organization(s) responsible for many attacks around the world, including the U.S. That's a fact. Terrorist + Saddam (WMD's) = armed terrorists = threat to the security of the United States. What about the terror training camps? Or the Al-Samud (sp?) missiles? The fact is the UN was too weak to show backbone and enforce the existing resolutions, resolutions which Saddam have clearly violated for 12 years?! No UN nation can say truthfully that Saddam is clean. They know he's guilty. They would rather sit and wait for years on end while inspectors chase all over Iraq looking for weapons that are constantly on the move. Sorry, but that don't cut it.

Your argument might as well be, "It's all a lie. It's just about oil." The evidence proves Saddam is guilty of weapons of mass destruction. No, I think you don't want to see. You want a reason to hate Bush and his administration so bad that you refuse to see the truth. If you don't research the facts, your argument won't hold water. You'll find oil has nothing to do with this war. It's your own personal opinion, not based on fact. I base my arguments on fact:

*WMD's have been used by Saddam against coalition forces, more will be found and seized.

*Saddam and his regime will be destroyed and the security of the US and all nations will have been protected.

*Iraq will be liberated, a new government will be set up for Iraq and the oil will remain in the hands of Iraq--as per what the President has said all along. The coalition forces will hold him to that, as well as the other countries around the world.

*The war on terror will continue and other countries with ties to terror will stick out like sore thumbs after this war is over.

*We've seen who our real friends are. The UN resolution served two purposes---to disarm Saddam and to weed out those that support him, or have dealings with him. It served its purpose and now we see a familiar cold war stance with France and other countries. These countries had money interests with Iraq.

*The next phase of the war on terror will begin. Quite possible a third world war. In the end we will prevail we will have gained the respect lost during the Clinton era. We will no longer be known as a passive nation. And that's a good thing, because it means security for the future of all Americans.

Xtreem is right about the techno/electronic mix up.
I have often seen electronic music being referred to as techno because so many genres and styles have put in techno modifs or structures in their songs. I know that techno is different than the title of electronic music. It's just an old habit of mixing them to gather. But If I replace the techno word with electronic music then the same would still apply. 50+ list of genres isn't there to fight you or make you look bad. It's there to state that electronic music is everywhere, and that regardless of our differences, we have at least one thing in common and that you should stop fighting so much. If life is bad, do you know what makes it worse? Bringing other people into it that don't understand your problems. other people aren’t going to understand you, and they shouldn't have to, making other people feel your pain is very immature of you. Stop talking as if you wanted to start a fight.
That was also directed to the rest of you, not just Xtreem.
I still don't like rap/soul/R&B/hip-hop/etc. Because I'm tired of the new rapers that talk about ho's, killing my brain with drugs is cool, Showing everybody that I more money than you makes me better than you, women aren’t there own person unless their with a man, a gangsta, a thug. Because all those things aren’t true and are very hurtful to so many people.
I like Electronic music that falls under the Techno and Trance modifs. With Trancy and hypnotic rhythms and melodies. I like music that has no lyrics so that I choose
where the music will take me, and if the music has lyrics It must be only from a female singer, with melodies every-where.

as far as the genres of music that you don't know, let me help you with that:

Tech step: The make-up of a tech-step track would follow these rough guidelines – the beats would be hard and ‘artificial' (some would say industrial), although in more recent examples of the genre there has been more diversity, with artists using more crisp and refined drums for their rhythms. This could possibly be a back-lash against the hard/industrial edge, as artists explore the deeper side of the sound such as is found in Tech-House.

Distorted filtered basslines (using synths such as the Access Virus range) are a mainstay of this type of music, but artists have tended to ‘over-use' this idea, which has pushed more innovative artists in new directions. Fm, or another type of synthesis will most likely change the face of Techstep, giving it a whole new fresh feel.

Symphonic Electronica: Heavily inspired by classical music, symphonic electronica makes use of synthesizers to create melodies and patterns into a symphony – of sorts. Using synthesized orchestral instruments, the music is often accompanied by complicated sound effects and, often, progressive melodies with very little repetitiveness.

Abstract: Abstract Music a.k.a. Absolute Music is music that does not try to tell a story, narrative, or convey a point, meaning, or emotion. It is music that is created for the sole purpose of exploring the music, in itself, without attaching any intellectual or emotional ideas to the composition.
- Try and find music from Neurospasm

Minimalism: Rather than using complex musical structures, the minimalist composer attempts to convey the very most with the very least amount of musical elements. Techniques vary but the minimal composition usually includes repeating patterns of various duration, volume, and speed, that pulse, phase, fade, or maintain steady throughout the song. These patterns can be rhythms, notes, chords, loops, samples, simple harmonies, or other elements. The general tendency is to allow the composition to build slowly and either add or subtract elements sparingly along the way for maximum effect. Due to the patterned nature of most minimal songs, minimalism is often said to have a hypnotic or mantra like quality and, thus, it adapts well to practices such as meditation or yoga which are also concerned with stripping away the excesses and getting down to the purest possible form. Leading minimalist composers include Phillip Glass, Steve Reich, and Terry Riley, among others.

UK Garage: Most recognisable for its clipped 2step beats, at around 130bpm, and deep basses reminiscent of drum and bass. Vocals are almost essential, either house style singing or hip-hop style rapping. Melodies are usually very basic but catchy.

US Garage: Origins in disco and soul, 4/4 beat - House Music but more emphasis on the laid back style and soul of Deep House.

Gabba: A derivative of Hardcore Techno, Gabber is most easily recognized for its ultra fast pace, normally in the range of 200 - 300 BPM, and the loud and repetitive loops. A hard, noisy and fast techno.
- Originated in Holland, gabba means “buddy” in Dutch. Gabba is Dutch, four-beat hardcore. Hard as hell and fast, fast, fast, featuring distorted 240 beats per minute kick drums and big bass drum sounds. Its popularity has waned in recent years but it is still popular in Holland Belgium.

Funky House: This became popular in England around 1994. Funky house is quite distinct from other house forms in that it employs the broken beat of old school rather than the familiar 4/4 time signature of house. Add a funky bass line and an electric rhythm guitar and you have funky house.

Hardcore Techno: Loud, fast, aggressive techno is the generally accepted description of hardcore, usually in the range of 180-190 bpm. Developed via the techno and rave scenes in the early 1990's, hardcore is a more abrasive and frantic form of techno characterized by distorted, pounding beats (TR909 was common), more aggressive synth lines and synth stabs.

Trancecore:Trancecore Music: A fairly recent development of the hardcore family that incorporates all the hypnotic elements of trance layered over dense hardcore. Trancecore is still mostly unique to the United Kingdom.

Nu-NRG: Nu-NRG Music - the next generation of Hi-NRG and a harder, faster version of commercial European-style house. Nu-NRG uses a hard techno-based 4/4 bass beat with heavy pumping bass lines. Melodies tend to be anthemic with epic build-ups and breakdowns. The predominately female vocals are usually on the breathless and corny side

Idm: IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) is typically made up of intensely complex rhythmic structure. This rhythmic complexity is not purely the domain of the drums themselves, but is rather supported by every instrumental element. This is most notable in the "cut up" influence (1940's art of cutting audio tape and splicing into minute samples and loops). Many times, what would seem to be the "master" mix will be hacked into very small fragments and step-sequenced in a nontraditional, sporadic manner. In addition to the over-the-top and unpredictable step sequencing, a notable melodic element will be incorporated. It is this blend of mechanical extremities and contrasting musical integrity that lend the overall "intelligence" of IDM. IDM is not meant to be danced to, but is in fact the antithesis of club music. IDM is the electronic choice of the "honest listener" -- a listener who will may be stimulated by the extremities and conversely, the aural aesthetic of -- synthetic music. Some listeners also claim that there is an intentionally quirky, nearly campy aspect of the sound that helps the style not to seem too extremely self-indulgent.

Glitch: Glitch music started with the help of computer technology that helped make super small and subtle sounds. The music is minimal, IDM related and rythmic yet do not contain any percussion, easy to recognise instruments or even instruments really.

Illbient: Illbient derives its name from "ill" and "ambient," as illbient music serves as the antidote to ambient. Where ambient music often focuses on natural themes, illbient has a darker focus on the urban landscape. The genre generally combines ambient, dub, hip hop, drum & bass in a downbeat rhythm with chaotic sampling, city noises and filtering to create a, generally, non-melodic track

Ebm:Electronic Body Music Guitar free, danceable (4/4 beat) electro. Lies somewhere between Old Skool Techno and Industrial. Often using harshly distorted vocals and media samples. Mostly quite aggressive

Industrial (Gothic): A mixture of electronic music (synths, media samples, sounds) combined with Gothic elements such as low, dark vocals, classical instruments (violins, cellos) and the goth attire; makeup, black clothing, etc.

Industrial (Metal): Industrial Metal is a form of heavy metal with big and heavy guitar, little or no lead (solos) and industrial like beats, usually with a lot of double bass pedal rolls. The vocals are generally deep and/or screamed and sometimes distorted. Synths are used to add to the technical sound of the music as well as subject of the music (ie. man and machine).

Anthem: Anthem is the name given to a series of massive house hits that swept across England in the late eighties. They are anthemic house classics that were instantly recognizable and loved by a huge number of ravers and clubbers in the United Kingdom.

Funky Breaks: A form of break beat with a soul flavour, driven by a funky bass line.
