how about a new version that works on winamp3?

this might not be for shoutcast, but mabey something that lets you cue songs, i think winamp only lets you play one song at a time, the cued song should be played through either the left speaker, (in mono broadcasts) or on another soundcard.

also, automatic level control would make alot of would be djs alot happier. the dsps already out there may take up too much ram, and alot of people already dont have enough bandwidth, so it might screw up its machine. (i know it would probably take the same amount of ram either way, though)

possibly a two way message connection threw shoutcast, because aol and yahoo suck-they crash too much. **also, alternacast has the capibility to let the host answer 'calls' over the air. the 'caller' presses a button, it says hes on hold, then the host can talk to that person on the air if they have a mic, plus it supports up to 3 people at a time.

the minibrowser is a great tool for shoutcast broadcasters, too bad people dont use it. (their loss, my gain in listeners)

i know that winamp and the people that write for winamp probably dont want to do any of those things, i dont blame them. its all hard work, plus there will be bugs that they have to work out, and they would have to start a forum just for the idiots who cant seem to get a simple program like winamp and shoutcast to work (simple program, not simple wrote!)

anyway, thanks for listening to me rable on

I lvoe alternacast yet I believe to achieve that great amount of listenes there must be a sacrifice. NO talk button! yuet I believe that it gives you that radio station type broadcast! If you know what I mean.

Now the only downside to alternacast is you have to pay :(

As they say, it's coming.
My personal opinion about this (which doesn't count for much) is just use Winamp2, it's much lighter and better for running in the background. Winamp2 can be made to sound just as good or better then winamp3 with the right combo of crossfaders and volume normalizers.

There is already software that does this

SAM2
DRS2006
OtsJuke
PCDJ

Just google those and you will at least be able to try them out.

Already been done, the DSP's availble do this just fine without consuming anymore bandwidth or resources on a modern machine, I prefer Audiostocker myself.

The only problem with this that I could see is the annoyance factor could go up if people bother you, most stations do not even concern themselves with talkback features, but if the idea is executed properly where the DJ has the control to disable such a feature and the server owner as well, then it might be worth a look at, but the current version of shoutcast could not handle two way traffic, so both the Source application and Server application as well as the client application would need more code. But you mention this later anyways, and I suspect you are right.

I utilize it on my station and several of my listeners enjoy it, as long as what is put there is useful and fun then it is a worthy addition to your broadcast. This is basically where most of my listeners give me feedback about how they feel about the station and the songs on it. Not sure why you added this comment though as it's not really a wish, it's already there, unless you are wishing more people would use the mini-browser?

Actually shoutcast in is not that hard to get your head around, the server is actually just a dummy repeater, it does no work and requires little code to make. I suspect that the admining features take up more code space then the actual server code, but that's just a guess. Where the work gets more difficult is in the sourcing tools.
