Greetings to all ... this is my first post and I'm a web developer researching online music business models.
This community has some incredibly informative forums. I'm familiar with similar forums in other industries.
Here's my suggestion as to how the powers that be could make it better ... Begin a forum dedicated to Buy / Sale / Barter.
Lots of forums do have them and they can only improve the popularity of the commumity. Now some forums have charged a fee for post on these paticular forums ... and that's OK ... but some don't charge and they are much more popular. Overall - better service to people and more banner sales for the site.
No, I'm not looking to sell ... I'll be looking to hire web design talent if I settle on a business model along these lines.
I have several websites and always farm out design. Just thought I'd throw out my suggestion ... hmmmm ... some communities have a Suggestion forum also.
The music I'm considering marketing spans from the late 60s to present (much of it is out of print).
I really prefer to go with 30 second clips and sell digital downloads, but it's to soon to say. And then I could go with a downscaled version of Rhino Records and sell an actual CD compilation or then their is subscription based internet radio. (which plenty of folks here say won't work) But that's what everyone said about all pay for content 3 and 4 years ago.
I don't know much about net radio, it might be hard to make fly today, but someone has to be first. And there is a huge advantage to being first.
I've only listened to a handful of net radio stations and I think I've only found a single one that play without interupptions on these slow dial up connections way out here in the hills. (But hey, if one will work ...)
