http://www.nullsoft.com/nsv/

What's new:
-----------

* A/V sync fixed
* NSVcap - app for live capture to NSV file/stream
* NSVate - batch encoder for converting MPEG/AVI/MOV to NSV files.
* NSVscSrc - program for sending a series of NSV files to a SHOUTcast server
* NSVubMux - program that muxes .sub/.srt subtitle files into a NSV file.
* Demux - NSV file analyzer/demuxer

Note: If you're using an interleaved video source (like a DV camera) with NSVcap and it goes out of sync, select "Direct Show time" in the menu.

What's new in the SDK:
----------------------

* nsvplay/winamp2 decoders

Hi!

The NSVubmux is a great tool... would be, sadly I can't use it. I tried to muxing a simple .sub (lately I converted to .srt) to an .nsv. The muxer added the first line, and write this on the screen:

'dding subtitle 'Magyar felirat: LaC (lac@message.hu) <--- this is the first line of my subtitle file

(where is the letter 'A', it seems to be the display text was shift by one (the last char (') became the first))

and exited (the result .nsv file became in proportion lesser: 9MB->0.4MB). When I cut the first line, the action is repeated, but then nothing appeared on the screen (the file size became 460k again)

What is this?

Thanks,
Lac

My prayers have been answered. Now this totally rocks. I am having 0 issues and am so happy I didn't just blow my cash on this new machine specifically for video. Wow, so much better in every way.

Thank Kids!

Hi everyone:

Better, but it still needs more work. Audio and video are still out of sync under Winamp 2.9x even though video bitrates are down to more manageable levels.

Plus, they're STILL command line based, which does me ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD WHATSOEVER!!! When are you guys gonna GET OFF the freakin' command lines???

Look, if ya need a few people to be beta testers, just ASK US and keep those who are willing to be "guinea pigs" in your address book (you DO use, don't you?). This will avoid making a BIG announcement FOR EVERYONE TO SEE before you're even ready to roll out NSV for novice use. I say this because, let's face it.....EVERYONE is a novice when it comes to NSV. But not everyone has the patience (or the desire) to wait until for you guys "work out the bugs" of something that's new EVEN TO YOU.

I mean this as CONSTRUCTIVE criticizm. NOTHING more and NOTHING less so take this however you wish to treat it. But even Microsoft has a CLOSED group of beta testers. The same holds true with many open source groups.

But AS A CONSUMER, I can't really consider NSV to be very reliable right now.

But the good thing is it's getting better, but it's STILL not Windows user-friendly for us so-called "novices" (especially with WinXP).

I give this upgrade a 5 (1 being bad, 10 being best).

Cheers for now :-)

Hi everyone:

To add to the above, I noticed that NSVCAP doesn't even notice the new playlist thingie. By that, unless I'm missing something, there isn't a button to push or anything else which would prompt NSVCAP to load a playlist of NSV files via the new NSVScSrc command line program. Why is this??

Correcting this could possibly put MY station on the air IN A HEARTBEAT (assuming there are no other bugs to look out for)!! :-)

In the meantime, I'll be encoding my videos with the new NSV tools in preparation for the arrival of NSV in earnest. :-)

Cheers for now :-)

Thought I would point out a couple of things, first this is a beta and you know this so I won't run on that bandwagon, but programatically it's easier to debug and test console apps, less junk to mess with, and less potential bugs due to a gui.

Sure doing it this way got novice users, but there are those who do have the patience like me, and have thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this new format and it's potential. I don't think they are trying to market this to end users at this point anyways, so it's kind of moot to make the arguement on behalf of those who don't want to take the time to learn it right now.

Hi everyone:

Dtawx my friendly neighbor....There seems to be A LOT of prebuffering being done on your video stream. Might wanna look into it. Just figured you would wanna know. :)

Cheers for now everyone :)

Now you just need to make this for Linux, instead of Windows. Whos idea was it to use Windows anyway?! lol

They're getting closer with Windows, but I have a feeling they're gonna have to use some other algorithm (sp?) for video besides VP3 (even if they have to create it themselves). I think THAT is probably THE biggest thing that's slowing the development of NSV down. I won't go into how acceptable I think it is. I'll leave that part open for interpretation by everyone else. :)

Cheers for now :)
