Hi Everyone... was wondering if you could put this in Laymann's terms for me?! Would I, as an individual, be able to set up a streaming radio station from my computer? What is the legal situation? How easy is it to do? Juat generally, a bit of an introduction... thanks ever so much.

Since the law(s)/rule(s) vary depending on the source location, please consult legal assistance.

If you're in the U.S.A. (or want a good read), see here for starters (http://www.shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml#copyright).

Can anybody advice on the legal situation in the UK? I really just want to do this as a hobby over the summer when I'll have some time on my hands, and I don't want to be stuck in legal stuff really. Any advice would be great... many thanks.

even if it is illegal, if you're running a small station with not many listeners, and your not making any money off of it, the RIAA will probably not even find you. they got bigger fish to fry. but keep in mind it is still illegal...at least in the US, to play music without paying for it.

Thanks for that! I see exactly what you mean. So, how easy is it to set up? Do I need a detailed computer knowledge? And, how good can you make stations sound? Is cross fading and voiceover tracks easy enough to do?
