Are you able to ping yp.shoutcast.com?

Kirkwood_DJ
29th April 2003, 02:19
by this you mean???

FesterHead
29th April 2003, 02:28
Hmm. My pings time out. I'm drawing a blank.

Does the DNAs machine have Internet connectivity?

Kirkwood_DJ
29th April 2003, 02:38
still nothing please help me!!!!

Tom

It means that the machine running the DNAS cannot connect to yp.shoutcast.com. There can be a number of reasons for this. For instance if the machine running the DNAS does not have an internet connection or if you have a firewall blocking outgoing requests.

BTW fester you can't ping shoutcast.com because they block ICMP traffic.

Thanks Tom.

I was searching for an easy way to verify the DNAS machine could get to the yp.

http://yp.shoutcast.com is better, eh?

This is getting frustrating Opened Winamp started the DSP, had music playing, did the config (or thought I had) made sure I was online by connecting to my ISP then closed the browse. Put http;//CMIKWEB.127.0.0.1:8000/content/classic1.m3u" in the url field where station's title and discription is and poof, still and got "error connecting to host". I thought this would be easy. The URl listed above is the one I put in the server config where the urlform string is. Have I got it or does the playlist have to be a PLS format. I'm really into on damand streaming since I can pre record the programs encode them to MP3, and stream them in the evenings. Thanks for whatever help you can give me.

Try http://127.0.0.1:8000/content/classic1.m3u

http;//CMIKWEB.127.0.0.1:8000/content/classic1.m3u and/or http://CMIKWEB.127.0.0.1:8000/content/classic1.m3u are not valid urls.

Does classic1.mp3 exists in the content directory?

Have you read the on-demand FAQ?

Classic 1 M3U is a playlist. All the songs in that playlist are in the content directory. I tried to connect and it said resolving host then after a short time said error connecting to host. I go and re read the on damand with shourcast and see if I can get to the bottom of this. Geez, this is hell. I was kind of hoping to launch the station today. I won't give up. Can you guys make the configuration program a little easier? I suggst a file similar to what you find in Qbasic or programs like it, but without the qbasic type programming lilngo, where a person puts in the wrong information, the mistake would be highlighted in red or green or, well, I think you know what I mean. Just a thought, not a poem (red or green or, well, you know what I mean..) by the wy I copied the correct form for the url and hope it will help down the road. Thankx

Is your DNAS on when exercising that link?

Tom

You can't use playlists with on-demand.

Tom

Aye, thanks Tom.

You can use a playlist for your on-demand content using a webserver, not the DNAS.

Refer to the on-demand FAQs for further information.

Thanks for that info, but I use playlists because who's going to tune into the station that plays only one song, sand no, I haven't rried turning the DNAS while excersiing the link, I'll try that later this afternoon, after I get some other important things done, but I'll talk to my ISP abotu uploading playlists. Playlist files are easy, but the individual song related to the playlist take forever and a week. Like I said, I won't give up until CMIK Web Radio is up and running, because radio is what I'm aiming at getting into, no trouble.

Correction: I meant getting into radio, not trouble. You can't make a career of running a web radio station, but there are some that have. Broadcasting is a very difficult business, especially for a half deaf and half blind guy, but I won't give upl I love the work too much.

Yep, there's connection finally, but I disconnected because the music jumped all over the place. I tried a lower rate and still got the jumpy sound.

Should I re encode the songs at a lower bitrate or use another plugin?
like Wave out or something other than the crossfade plugin I'm currently using. I love that crossfade plugin, sure gets rid of the gaps, but could it be the reason the music sounds so jumpy.

As for the mic mixing, I'll worry about that when I'm feeling like talking. for nosw, I'll just work on getting CMIK Web Radio going. At least I now have a link to put on my web site for when I reeally get it going. Here's what the event log read. I disconnected. My rookie mistake I guess Thanks for all the help. This is going to be fun stuff.

I have three other questions
1. when I entered the URL of the station into the address bar of my browser, http://127.0.0.1:8000/content/classic1.m3u , I either get page cannot be displayed or "invalid source".

2 what does "Error loading sounddev" mean. It shows up just before I go on stream.

3. How long should I be allowed to broadcast per day or does that matter. Once the kins are solved, I hope to broadcast betwqeen two and four hrs per night four days per week. OK I;ll shut up and og eat something. Cheers.
