View Full Version : nullsoft should take marketing lessons

I think Nullsoft is really messing up on their marketing strategy. Does anybody know what they are playing at? Why do they ahve a buggy, completly unfinished product splashed all over their home page when their most in demand product is something else. They have a name for these things - beta. And then all of a sudden the development updates stop. But we are told somebody is doing something somewhere.

Overall I have lost faith in Nullsoft. It seems now like an immature, unprofessional, and uncaring company.

They care very much. Their resources are spread thin right now, and I can assure you they are doing their very best. Times are tough for many media companies as they try to balance all the interests fighting for dominence (copyright owners, software developers, business managers, users, etc.). They are working on updating the site and development updates haven't stopped, it's just a longer than average interim between builds.

just out of intrest, why would AOL force Nullsoft to release Winamp3? Marketing of some sort?

to get it out so that AOL can say "look, we have something!" Not the best policy, but, hey they dictate policy.

Keep the faith. It's not anywhere near as bad as you think. Good times are ahead. Hell, good times are still here. There are some glitch-humps to get over, that's all.

I hope so. It would be a damn shame to see this potentially awesome player grounded

Potentially awesome? Are you still using 1.0?

soo... why is it that every new build of WA3, something else gets broken?
Ya, AOL f*ed up WA3, it is not ready for a non-betaness.
Ya, it almost feels like it is dead.
and why is WA2 still being worked on? What is the point? Why not just end WA2 and focus on WA3 to make it better in everything then WA2?

I had a good analogy for that, but I forgot it. :p

Ok, how about this bad analogy...
Would you ask Goodyear to stop making off-road tires so that they could focus on making only racing slicks? :)

Because no one uses ther "SUV's" on off-road conditions :p

seroiusly, WA3 had huge potential, if they just spend some time working on it, it will own WA2.
you are talking to a person that has been using WA3 from the early alpha tests. And has never used wa2 from the 2.78 build.

Wa3 just needs sone love people, it is that ugly (i stress ugly) duckling we all leard about, when we where kids..... Wait, no one grows up buitiful, it all lies... crap
ON TO WA4 NOW!

Will you people stop bitching about a program that you get for free. If you think that it's so crappy then go program your own perfect media player and stop bitching about something that they're letting you have for free.

so when AOL got nullsoft, is that when Winamp whent freeware from shareware?
If I remember reading in the history LONG ago, it cost money for some time.
Or am I crazy?
I dont have a problem with Winamp at all. I just think they should spend more time on WA3. It has potential, a lot of it.

no doubt winamp kicks ass, im still a fan.
but i never bothered to find out who owned winamp.
i feel... somehow dirtied that my favorite mp3 player was(is) backed by a huge conglomerate....

but thats ok.. im not supporting AOL in any significant material way by using winamp.

im gonna stop this rambling post before it gets ugly. oh, wait.

I'm not on NS staff so I don't know what they have planned)

WA went freeware when it went 2.0 (read it in the updates log of Winamp 2.x, should be near the bottom of the file)
I agree that AOL shouldn't have released an unfinished product. they should have let NS work on the bugs and the features. then we wouldn't have this snafus. IMO releasing the product early slowed down the development because now the programmers read these "WA3 IS SHIT" threads and, personally, for me, it's depressing. if I were working for NS I would have quit a long time ago. so stfu with the WA3 comments, they/we know it's crap. no it isn't going to get better in the near future. yes it will be better than WA2. no not now.

Wa3 is a baby that was born premature. like 12 months premature.

I agree, AOL did fuck it up somewhat.
And what is with all the people dissing WA3? I LOVE IT! I have used it since the alpha of it and in the beta that took up like 150mb of ram! And I STILL USED IT!
I am sad that it is not getting the attention that it needs, and WA2 is like perfect now? and it is still getting worked on. What is there that can be fixed? are they going to try to keep making WA2 untill it gets to 2.99?

Sorry, I just have not used 2 in a long time, I just love 3, and the beta 3 (466) one was the best, Shoutcast server list, gama changing, all that great stuff.

Well, enjoy, this if your only WA3 fan, I guess, saying keep on working.

and yes I am using the buggy as hell current beta. Well now I am back to beta build 491, the best yet.
