Oop's I said 1 song twice! I really can't believe I did that!! But O Well. And no it's not a big hint that it's my very favorite song because it's not.
What is this, the national convention for shit threads and crap commercialised horse shit pop. I feel insane right now, detatched from everything else, something isn't right.

Ok fine no one else do this poll. I understand that all of the other people who like any of these songs are just afraid to admit it!! An example is that all of my guy friend's do really like I want it that way by the Backstreet Boys but just wont admit it!! I can tell that they do from the expression on there faces and some other hints whenever it's being played. Have any other girls here found the same thing with there guy friends?

Hm I'm a girl but I neither like that song myself nor do I know anyone else of my guy friends that does...but I probably have contact with another social and cultural group of people with a very different taste of music compared to yours (Gimme punk and rock & roll! :D), that's why I'd say no to every one of them (although there are some I don't know) but don't count my votes because I wouldn't say taht your taste of music is bad, it's just very different from mine so my votes are probably not important.

Well which of the songs that I have mentioned haven't you heard? I say whatever they are then you just have to listen to them!!
Every song is great because somebody likes it and every song is shite because somebody doesn't like it. Stop trying to come up with the best ones because people are not all the same, people like different things. Stop thinking just because you like it everyone else does.

White Soul

13th May 2003, 05:19
uh...they're all "no"s. In fact, where I work, a Grocery Store, they play four of those songs, and prolly all of them if I knew what they all were.
All No's.
Just like nobody cares what I listen to, I'm sure that there are few who are willing to post in this thread, as it's kinda dumb (c'mon, admit it, just a little), much less supporters of these people.
I still don't know anybody who likes these songs, except you. Let me know if my list of people I know who like these songs increases.
Thanks.

Well well, what do we have here. A generalizing White Soul, hmmm?
In my opinion, (And please note, this is MY OPINION. This, White Soul, does not in any form of necessity need to reflect upon or even attempt to change yours.)
I would like to back up Raz. He's not a 'mean' guy, and personally, I have no opinion either way about Celine Dion. She can sing I guess, but I saw her in an interview and she just didn't seem like the most wonderful person to be around, that's all.
You can't say that 'Oh, these are the most popular songs in the world.' Not everything you like, or I like, names the best songs.
Myself, I listen to absolutely everything except country music, and the majority of pop music. I'm not saying country music or pop may not be good music to some people, and I'll admit I don't mind one or two of Shania Twain's songs, and I do like a few pop songs, too. I'm saying I just tend not to like the country or pop genre. I listen to everything from Hard rock to taiko drumming to trance to classical to J-Pop. (J-Pop is Japanese techno/pop)
Hey, I have no problem if someone HATES Yoko Kanno, one of my most favourite composers. If they HATE her beyond hell and back for some reason, that's their issue, not mine. I am still free to love my music, and you are still free to love yours. I don't go 'Oh, you big meanie, you don't like the same music as I do, blah blah.' I simply ask them why they have a viewpoint that negatively on that person, and leave it at that and talk about something else.
So basically what I'm saying is that you can't bash people for their own respective tastes in music. It's really not a viable thing to argue about. I love trance music. Some people hate it. That's okay with me. If we all loved the same music, the world would be exceedingly droll with no new inventions, progress, no diversity, and since we'd be all the same, we'd probably end up inbred to a hill-billy type state.
I'll take my colourful cultural mix, thank you.
This was said in the 'What Could It Be?' thread, also created by our friend here White Soul, in response to the comment that bashed Raz.
I don't like those songs. I hate most of them. I am not saying you don't have to like those songs simply because I don't. And I see no reason why I should be afraid to admit I like certain songs or not.
O.O GUESS WHAT, PEOPLE, I LIKE THE BEEGEE'S - STAYIN' ALIVE! OMFG!
I ALSO LIKE THE ESCAFLOWNE SONGS! WHICH ARE ALL CLASSICAL! OMFG! I ALSO LIKE THE RESIDENT EVIL SOUNDTRACK! WHICH IS REALLY REALLY HARD ROCK! OMFG!
Do I impose that since I like those songs/types of music, that you must like them too? No, of course not.
Your retaliation, saying that people who like those songs are afraid to admit it, is in my opinion a childish thing to say. However, I must concede I do see where you are coming from.
I'll say one thing in your defense, White Soul, you did make both those threads with an honest intent to just find some like-minded people and to spark some discussion. That's a good thing. That's what we're all here in these forums for. It's their purpose.
Please keep in mind that I am not flaming you or trying to make you feel bad. It's simply my opinions and viewpoints, said from a purely analytical basis.

Just try and put a backstreet boy infront of me and watch how I try to kill him with a fork a rock or what ever I find that looks like it would really hurt and would really mess up a guys face.
It looks like your taking one experiance or two and thinking everyone must like some part of the song. well, your friends are not my friends. so, what they like is not what I like. but you did say how you just want opinions. I am extra special when it comes to opinions.
1. I Will Love Again by Laura Fabian
2. Hero by Enrique Iglesias
3. I Want It that Way by Backstreet Boys
4. Angels by Robbie Williams
5. A New Day Has Come by Celine Dion
6. Imitation Of Life by R.E.M
7. Missing by Everything But The Girl
8. A New Day Has Come by Celine Dion
1. who?
2. sounds like he should have been born in the north pole, at least he would hear how much nobuddy really cares if he dies.
3. You know which way I want it? them dead.
4. he only sings about what he's not. which is talented
5. didn't Celine Dion die? she's still alive? how old is she? or was that her husband who died well he should be dead
6. R.E.M. I respect. and the song is ok but that's about it.
7. Missing? good, don't come back.
8. you again? why are you not died? why won't cancer or a flying car just put you and me out of our misery?

lol @ knight
I am a guy, and I hate the Backstreet boys. To hell and back. Justin Timberlake's only good desision was to bail on his "group" and make some decent music on his own. "Cry Me a River" is actually a pretty good song.
R.E.M. is pretty cool, but they've kind of faded a bit, and I'm sure I'd know that song if I heard it, but the name isn't sending any signals....
Raven, once again, I am in your debt for putting on the table what I feel. Thank you much.
I also enjoy many types of music, (except country [bearded men with cowboy hats gyrating thier hips in dungarees]) because I try to absorb many avenues of talent.
I still hate 6 out of seven (or 8, I hate Celine twice over, meself) of the bands, much less the stated song.

Im sure that playlist is excelent if your a 14 year old girl. Saddly though thoughs artits have as much musical depth and tallent as an ants piss puddle.
PS: It will be intresting to see your favoret 8, lets say in about six years when u have developed a musical appitie that ranges beyond what the local pop station feeds U.
White Soul
14th May 2003, 23:27
Actually I have just yesterday found out that I really don’t like the song “where have all the cowboys gone”. I was just under the spell from hearing it again after a long time. Since I forgot that I got sick and anoyed from it in the times when it was playing a lot on the radio station I listen to. And I think that it was actually so strong that it made me post that thread “what could it be”. So it happens to also be the last song I added to my playlist before I made that post. Which was just a couple days prior to me posting that. I actually realized that I really hate the song when it started to give me a headache and strangely a pain in both of my legs. Lol!! So I’ve removed it from my playlist and replaced it with some other song that I really like. It was I’m a bitch from Shania Twain!! Lol. But the song Angel that I mentioned in that post on the other hand I have loved for a long time and will be a favorite song of mine forever.
Any ways, I’m sorry that I called you a mean person Raz. But I just happened to get the impression that you were some how.
Also I think I should say that you can’t hate a song only because you hate the singer/s or vice versa if your completely true to what songs you like and truly hate because logically they both aren’t the same thing.
Yeah, I hate the singer Enrique Eglasius too but I do love his song “hero!!”
That’s the only song I like from him. Well and "be with you" which is my 5th favorite song. I used to think that I also liked his song “escape” but I not to long ago realized that I actually don’t. So I have removed it from my playlist to about a week ago and replaced it with a song I remembered that I really like from Phil Colins after listening to it on a winamp radio station.
By the way if any of you still think that I am still trying to make any of you like any of the songs that I have mentioned here. Well I’m not and it never was my intention.
A lot of people think i'm a mean person. I seem to give that impression when i don't really mean any harm. Don't take anything i say as personally because all most people on here is a username and an avatar until you get to know their posts. It was kind of unreasonable of me but i... ahh never mind explanations. Sorry, i just think those songs are awful. By all means listen, it's just my opinion.

I get that, Raz, all the damn time. Don't sweat it. :) Maybe its our hard northerner personalities; everyone else reacts weirdly because they're just soft southern fairies? ;)
Of those tracks, white soul:
-Angels was a good little record.
-Missing is on my playlist, which tells you I like it
Everything else on that list is pap. I'm sorry, but it is. :-)

Well it's true that I didn't just get the impression that your mean from this thread and "what could it be".
By the way Efaustu59 I am 20 while I am thinking all of those songs are really great. And you obviously can't imagine how in depth all of those songs are to me. So much I feel that they are a part of me so I am sure that I will love them forever. And because my aunt who is 37 also likes all of those songs and I also know my mother who is 47 who likes five of them. Aswell as my aunts boyfriend who is 40 who likes four of them. When non of them are even new anymore!!

I am glad thoughts songs carry such a profound significance for you. Sure Friends and family are there to affirm and humor your childish interests, with a smile and a pat on the head before sending u off to play. Further the majority of the songs u have in you capricious 8 er 7 er 8 list, is of pop persuasion, specifically designed and marketed to be POPULAR and palatable to the masses. I guess the six year estimate was a bit too ambitious for me lets give it another 5 eh?

I could, right now, offer a very awful piece of my mind denouncing the spelling and grammar skills held by today's twenty-year-olds but I would much rather keep it to myself, as I'm sure saying something would more than likely get me a flame or two.
Here's an example of part of the playlist on my Winamp player:
(Obviously keep in mind that I do not give a shit about the popularity or age of a song. If I like to listen to it, I will.)
1. Coldplay - Clocks
2. Maaya Sakamoto - Empy the Pocket (Poketto Wo Kara Ni Shite) (Escaflowne)
3. Fly - Sydney Forrest (Kiki's Delivery Service)
4. Our Lady Peace - Superman's Dead
5. Elevation - (I had a mindblank, can't remember who did it)
6. Closure - Look Out Below
7. Liam Lynch - United States of Whatever
8. Mitsubishi Commercial - Start the Commotion
9. Filter & Crystal Method - Trip Like I Do
10. Linkin Park - Points of Authority
11. Linkin Park - Nobody's Listening
12. Pinback - June
13. Yoko Kanno - Chain (Escaflowne)
14. Yoko Kanno & Hajime Mizoguchi - Shadow of Doubt (Escaflowne)
15. Maaya Sakamoto - My Best Friend (Tomodachi) (Escaflowne)
16. Nobuo Uematsu - Find Your Way (Piano Version) (FFVIII)
17. Joe Hisaishi - Ashitaka Theme (Princess Mononoke)
18. Joe Hisaishi - Demon God (Princess Mononoke)
19. Godsmack - I Stand Alone
So yeah, please feel free to point out how much you hate/love these songs if you heard them. I'm not expecting you to have heard all of them, especially the Escaflowne ones.
If you do hate them, good for you. Listen to something else. That's awesome you have a different taste than mine! ^_^ Just don't bash me, that's all I ask.

A respectable list raven. Thanks for pointing out my misspelling, I am a man and far from perfect ; ). I now, thanks to Merlin ,know how to correctly spell touché.
As for my elite 8, I have never truly committed my self to ever placing cretin songs on a pedestal above all others, though I can give an example of a current play list on my computer. (of which I will select a preferred 8 from just to be somewhat consistent with original premise.)
1.Alice in chains – No excuses
2.Carlo Domeniconi - Koyunbaba
3.Led Zeppelin – Baby I’m going to leave you
4.Foo Fighters – Everlong
5.Tool – Sober
6.Beethoven- 'Moonlight'
7.Mozart – Carmina Burana
8.Weezer – Say it aint So
Some songs with endurance which have a tendency of reentering my playlists and my Mp3 player every so often. Im sorry if I Sometimes have this uncontrolled urge to pop Bash, forgive me. so here is my list of a current reoccurring 8 and Have a field day ; ), if u wish.

I like a few songs on your playlist, especially the Mozart, Weezer, and Alice in Chains.

Uh yeah Fazer, you can share your own opinion but you do not have the right to tell me what songs I should like or dislike. Ya, so I like all of those songs that you hate but that doesn’t mean I have no taste in music, life or anything!! (just my own). So respect it!!
By the way white Raven, I know that I made some very noticeable spelling and grammer mistakes on my last reply in here. But it was only because I was hardly thinking about spelling and grammer when I wrote it. Also because I wrote it very early in the morning when I was still very tired. So I just decided to not bother with it that much.
As for the thing I said about my guy friend’s. Everyone just forget about that and I am sorry that I said it. It’s just that my guy friend’s say that they don’t like “I want it that way” by the backstreet boys because they hate them as people because they came out singing all these soft rock love songs which is gay to them coming from an all guy group and when ever I'm around some of them and the song is playing non of them ever say that they hate it to me or each other. I've even caught them them all singing it silently to themselves!! Lol.

appreciate the appraisal raven. I too am no fan of oasis, yet wonderwall dose seem to strum that nostalgic cord.

White Soul
16th May 2003, 22:50
No it's not the truth. The truth is that any of those songs is crap to anyone at any age and not to some other people at any age because everyone has there own opinions and taste in music because everyone is different. If I were to not like any of those songs in five years it would only be because you manipulated me not to. I know this because you have kind of started to because your like saying that all of those songs are just good for anyone under 25 and that's that!
But I have now posted all of this to really re affirm that I will stay standing on my ground which I really believe is the right one. So now we can really see if in five years my taste in music will completely change. Since it will also make me not like any of those very favorite songs of mine as part of my taste in music.
So I also must say this: There is nothing wrong with anyone likeing any of those songs!!
Thankyou.
White Raven
16th May 2003, 23:10
White Soul's right, there is nothing wrong with her taste of music, and even if everyone else happens to dislike it (Dislike used as an understatement here, but for the sake of common politeness, 'dislike' will be used.) As I was saying, even if everyone else here dislikes the kind of music White Soul likes, the fact that she likes it should be good enough to respect.
I didn't like it when, in the other thread, 'What Could It Be?' that (I think it's fairly safe to assume 'she') posted 2 songs that she thought were the best in North America and claimed that they must be the most popular.
According to the Pop Charts, they may be.
According to most other music charts, far from it.
So I do dislike the fact that she claimed those were the best songs, however White Soul had an honest intent to just find out who agreed with her and was a like-minded person, as I have mentioned before.
Myself, I don't like those songs on her list, but I can appreciate that she likes them herself, and all the power to her.
I believe the statement made by someone about the 'musical taste of a 14 year old girl' or something along those guidelines... Was very biased and has generally no substantial evidence to support that, because I myself am a fourteen year old girl. If you want proof, go to the 'Post yer Picture =)' thread, you will find my picture posted there. Back to the point. I'm 14, and I have a very very different musical taste than just the edited and filtered pop genre which Hot 103 and the likes of the stations they have here pump out. (All bass decreased, too, which pisses me off to no end.) Not all 14 year olds like pop.
However, I can again say that I understand the viewpoint, as I suppose a lot of people in my age group tend to be very narrow-minded to musical taste, and very centred upon 'What's popular' so I guess the generalization DOES have some background. Here I go reading in too deep yet again and contradicting myself. Great.
Anyways, perhaps I should be quiet. You have all seen my viewpoints, and I wish not to repeat myself endlessly. What I have said, I have said.
Thank you.

Well white raven your weighting, ruminations and songs selections all reflects some degree of maturity. This is something I can not say for white soul who is supposedly 6 years your elder, yet carries on as if she were the STEROTYPICAL 14 year old (but my mommy says its cool). She seems to confuse bubble gum for sirloin, such taste in music is highly conductive to criticism as seen in this thread, but I guess u cant confront taste. It is possible I believe though that u can get an indication of the person from there taste’s thus I prescribed 5 years for soul. So Just as the toddler sheds his favorite teddy maybe she’ll shed this kiddy pop.

Well it’s only kiddy pop if that is what you believe it to be. You see it’s just that I have been open minded to not think that it’s only music for kids (withought a teddy bear) because the sound and lyrics of all of those songs are good enough for people at any age to like. So I have also let myself know that I really like those songs because they all really have a seemingly magical impact on my soul. Also, no I don’t at all solely like them because my family and friends have a very close taste in music as mine. Since I have taken the time to be completely truth full to myself about what songs are my favourite’s and what are not.
