are you looking to run the server on your system, or are you looking to stream to a remote shoutcast server which people connect to, to listen to the stream?

Well, you could run your own... which is cool cause you can set up everything like you want it and whatnot, but you need bandwidth. What kind of connection are you running off of? Having someone else run the server is, naturally, a lot less work since they probably already have it set up or will set it up for you... But I don't think there are any free services any more that offer free shoutcast broadcasting for you... I dunno... up to you...

from what i can figure, my connection is only a 52k...which sucks but its better than a kick in the balls.
how do i go about getting my own server?

Either pay for your own server to relay from ( http://www.CovaCommunications.com ) or there is one post I noticed which is setting up free temporary shoutcast servers, might wanna check that.
