View Full Version : Are you Normal

Strange musings late at night when the day folds over.
What is normal? Am I normal because I smoke, are you normal because you don't?
Isn't it true that when you think your unnormal, you feel better when there are people who are unnormal with you? Doesn't that make you normal in some sick profound way?
Is there a normal? Don't cop out and give a simple "yes" or "no". If you say yes, then does that mean you think you're normal, if you say no does that mean you think you're not, along with everybody else who think that's the right answer.
Would a normal person just answer the question, or decide after everybody else has taken a stand?
Strange musings on a late Tuesday Night, actually Wednesday Morning. Could if I would write like this more often, and think this clearly.

I am not what many would consider normal. Certain rare abilities run in my family (for the list please PM me and I might post them) and as such we are thought of as abnormal and occasionally crazy.

What IS normal?

How do you DEFINE normal?

If you are talking about what you can see, taste, hear, and feel, then normal is just simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

Normal by any definition is highly time dependent. Oh the cored will stay the same, ie you won't become an axe murder and still be normal, but everything else changes but stays normal. You'll know normal because it feels right, and it feels normal, and you'll look back and wonder at the things that once were normal. Thats what normal is.

Argument: Doesn't an axemurderer feel what you just described? Normal in his own way. Doesn't he feel right, feel normal, even with blood on his hands? Wasn't the reason he used the axe actually an attempt to feel right?

BTW, I don't like what other people do. I don't feel normal. Ever. I don't feel right when I'm going against the grain or with it.

Normal is the thing most comman. It would be 'normal' for me to go to school on a weekday for example. The sky is 'normally' blue during the day. etc.

Someone made it for me in the avatar contest over in the WA2 skinning forums.

'normally' a thread stays on topic, and if it is draged off topic it is not 'normally' by the creator, :D.

isnt normal just whatever is expected?

infact according to dictionary.com normal is:
normal
Conforming with, adhering to, or constituting a norm, standard, pattern, level, or type; typical: normal room temperature; one's normal weight; normal diplomatic relations.

ok. so i guess i am right - but that's normal :)

I am not normal quite simply because there is no such thing as the average person.

No I am not what I would consider 'normal' to me normal is what society deems to be 'the best thing' lets say a 16 year old teenager...society IMHO seems to think that all 16 year olds have sex, drink, do drugs, cheat on women, disrespect women, etc...well I see this as what most of the teenagers my age do well if you go by that then I am completly abnormal. I dont do any of that.

There is a big problem with your argument. Who here consideres axe murders normal? We don't define things we don't find normal as normal.

I would have to say that no its not the same thing. Find me a statistically significant number of axe murders who don't have some other issues, then perhaps i'll agree.

My point about the core of whats normal not changing is one of morals. There are some morals which everyone (basically, for the sake of argument, although feel free to take it up if you like) has. Namely don't go around killing people. There is nothing about humanity that inately stops us from killing each other all the time. We have that ablity. Morals do stop us. We don't classify murders as normal. That doesn't fit the mold. (as much as you might not like to consider the mold as existing at all. Broad and non constraining as it may be.) Being normal in you own way shouldn't be seen as a step into relativism. Its not. Normality isn't relative. There are limits as to what normal can be, although they are much further than the statement makes it sound. Axe murders aren't normal, by any definition, regardless of whether or not being normal was the intent in the murdering.

normal people are wierd. i mean really. someone who is so completely boring as to be called normal has got to be 1 in a million, so, they arent 'normal' per se, just boring.
