Actually, I think I just figured the title out.

I was searching for something in my house, when I spotted a book called Snake Eater by Don Bendell. It's about the Green Berets in Vietnam. Perhaps the new Metal Gear game takes cues from the book?

judging from the website it looks like it takes place in the years 1961-64 and has something to do with cold war activities.
