What are the odds on that? For me it was March '91, I'd bought the cassettte (woman smoking the cigarette). I'd spent the previous 2 years listening exclusively to Magnum/Rush/The Alarm (you get the picture). I played Soul Mining, I kid you not 45 minutes later I was a completely different person.

Actually...The Beatles released 7 albums in the US
in 1964, all of them good.
(Let's see a band do that today!!!)

Before that album, I wasn't really listening to anything,
because there wasn't really anything to listen to.
Nothing that moved me, anyway.
This one album changed everything for me...
mentally, physically, and musically.
Maybe not always for the better...;)

Festerhead, I spent the whole of 1990 listening to Rush. I got the Permanent Waves LP framed (nice erotic scene there). Sits on the wall next to Pixies/Planet of Sound (eyeball in a glass). I love Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, Limelight, Witch Hunt, Vital Signs. My favourite album is Power Windows, my favourite track Freewill/Permanent Waves.

Radiohead- The Bends or Nine Inch Nails- The Fragile

I was listening to Green Day one day, then the Just video came on tv. Lets just say i never looked back. I went from shitty pop punk bands to music with a meaning in less than a week. My playlist is full of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails now. I bought all the Radiohead cd's, and shortly after that discovered Nine Inch Nails. They are both my favorite bands right now. I can't imagine listening to Green Day or Blink 182 ever again, no way. Im glad MTV2 plays one good video once in a while, or i'd still be stuck on the Green Day message boards trying to fit in with all those assholes.

was bored one day and decided to poke thru my brothers room and spotted the cassette. played it for the hell of it, expecting to just listen to one song and harass my brother later for listening to "weird" shit. i got hooked. and that was a complete turnaround, because at that time (late 80's) i was following my sister's lead and was listening to the pop of the time. now, i listen to a broad range of genres and am not hesitant to try something new.

This album is simply inspirational. I have been listening to it for about 2 years now. i know the entire thing off by heart. its the best album in my collection and it probably will be for a very long time. If you have heard the original tubular bells (you know, from the excorcist), this one is infinitely better. Mike oldfield is a musical genius. Screw radiohead, even grandaddy. If i needed one record to survive the rest of my life, this would be it. I have listened to it easily over 200 times. it is nothing short of a masterpiece and i think everyone reading this should own it.

Twilightseer, actually i did post in another thread that my fave Cure album is Disintegration. and yeah, they're latest album is "iffy", which i was only able to hear a couple months back. i live on the west coast of the US, and it even took me while to find out that they were even making another!

The perfect companions for Disintegration. Entreat (1989), Mixed Up (1990). Personally I rate these higher than Disintegration itself.

Yes, Disintegration is a masterpiece :) It was the best line-up the band ever had. Sadly, as I said, the current drummer is pathetic: Bloodflowers would have been much better with Williams on the drums but apparently, his return is not planned. :(

DJ Cam - Mad Blunted Jazz

I bought this around april and man this music gives you one hell of a new mental wiring. It is an excellent display of beauty and soul. The vocals are above heavenly and the beat is non-stop.

I would have to say, the album that has had the most impact on my life would have to be Rage Against the Machine - The Battle of Los Angeles.
Before that I was listening to basicly CRAP. I have never gone back. Ya, I may not be old enough to remeber or have been around with the other bands you old timers are talking about. But I may just have to check them out.
But the album that is really affecting me now it Tool - Lateralus. It is just so deep and filled with quality. It is amazing.

The album that has influenced me the most would have to be BT (http://www.btmusic.com)'s Movement in Still Life (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004TIQ6/qid=1057123284/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/103-6015108-2029450?v=glance&s=music).
Though I probably never would have found BT if I hadn't first listened to Deeper Euphoria (http://www.telstar-tv.co.uk/cd2euphoria.htm), though when I look back at my musical journey I do see hints of electronica that stick out to me now, so who knows. It was probably inevitable.
