Hey... that's a good point. But being the Nintendo fan that I am, I much prefer to have the real thing as compared to having a ROM. But as for mp3s... nah. Nothing ebil about that. :)

This is about MP3s and roms being "evil". First off...there are instances where there is a particularly rare or old game, and you cant find it anywhere else. In which case it's alright to download the rom. Second off MP3s are NOT evil. Boo-hoo-hoo, the rich people who live on mansions on top of a hill are makeing slightly less money. Now the recording artist and record producers cant get the ultra super stretched limo they have to settle for the ultra stretched limo. If ANYTHING they brought it upon themselves. CD's cost ridiculous amounts of money, and the only have like three songs worth listening to. And I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't have that much money, I barley have enough money for clothes and hanging out. I only buy CD's from certin artist who I think are worth listening to. Such as: 2pac, Nas, Eminem (I know most of you are rockers so don't start a flame war about how much rap sucks). And now since the RIAA started going after individual college students who are only trying to pursiute and edgejucation, that has further pissed me off, and now I'm not buying any CD's what so ever.
P.S...
Dear RIAA:
I have 934 songs, DO SOMTHING ABOUT IT YOU FCKN P***YS.

I have no issues with using ROMS, I'm a Nintendo fan like Sarge, but I'm a fan of my wallet more.
I own and use every day a GBA flash ROM cart and PC linker cable, which I err,use to back up my original carts , that's right yes.. ;)

Sure, I'll download roms, but they're usally old games. How's Nintendo gonna lose money if I download a game they don't even sell anymore?

Ummh of course money can be lost. Look at teh current wave of 8-bit esq gaming back from the dead via the humble mobile phone.
Nintendo, etc, etc are doubt in talks with teh phone makers to get there stuff on them.
I think Hang-on is one on teh phones.

According to a bloke who works for Atari, ROMs are illegal and so is using them. He's misinformed, and that only applies to the UK. At least in the US, it's legal to download certain ROMs as a backup of cartridges you own. We don't have the right to a backup copy.
Downloading Emulators is also legal, you just can't use copyrighted ROMs with them.
ROM dumps of old arcade games are completely illegal.

Can you say all the Abandonware sites that has © games
(thanks sgt ;)) are illegal?
Wow! If I got 50+ ROM's in a CD
can I be charge like RIAA charges the MP3?
We can say that are almost the same number of ROM's on the NET
as MP3...?

I seriously doubt that Atari, Nintendo, Sony, and the rest of them are going to be hunting down people on the net like the RIAA are trying to do. But who knows.
>>thanks sgt<<
No prob. :)

Maybe not, but there has been a massive crack down on web sites hosting GBA and other nintendo ROMS this week, loads of sites have pulled their content due to heavey letters from Nintendo.
It's fairly common however, they put the frightners on , things go underground again, and usualy resurface a few months later.
Still, if you know where to look....

That's true... but even so.
Nintendo games are like sex. Even though it's awesome, the one on my computer just can't beat the real thing. ;)

Well, I can see the problem trying to get the older games... but honestly, I don't think I'll have much trouble getting the older women. :D I've been with one older woman so far, and she thought she could play me like my Nintendo, but she was wrong. Just because I like my video games doesn't mean I'm still a kid. ;)

you want a cookie or something?
I think he needs one...
Come on people, I dont think ROM's of games that are not being made anymore are just fine, the company can not make a proffit off it, so why not download it. But if you are ripping the latest GBA game, that is not cool. Nintendo and the devs need the money to continue to make games, so just do Nintendo a big favor and BUY the GBA game now. I dont care about N64 or SNES or NES roms now, they are not being made, but GBA.... thats not too cool now.

I agree, nintendo actaully looses money and it deserves money...unlike the RIAA who bitches about a penny lost to the dollar

I agree too. I would never download a rom from a newer console simply due to the fact that most ps2 or GameCube roms are fake anyway, and Nintendo's losing money from a game they still make. So far, the only good roms that actually work are SNES ones and Genesis ones, so unless sega and nintendo decide for no reason at all to re-release their old consoles, I'm fine downloading these roms.

I like actually finding the games at game-exchange stores so that I can add it to my collection... but that's just me. I agree with downloading ROMs of older games that aren't being made anymore, and I also agree that it's ok to download ROMs of new games, but only if you've actually bought a real copy of it first. It's like music in that respect... as long as you bought the original copy, then I feel it should be just fine to make as many duplicates of it as you want (for personal use only, of course ;)).
But still, ROMs can't replace the original thing. :)

Thats different though. Nintendo currently still gets money from GBA games. It no longer gets money from Old NES and SNES games so they dont wanna waste money sueing people who get those.

Roms are a good way to find games that you've always wanted but could not afford. After all, games are really expensive!

...which makes it OK to steal online copies of them

I download roms or what's left of the websites that carry them. So far I have all FF's that came out, Dragon Quests, Star Ocean, any RPG u can think of, plus MK1,2,3,ULt, bunch of rare jap games and a shizload of porno games. I dont see any problem with roms as i do with mp3's. We're just using them for our own personal pleasure w/o going through the hassle of finding them and spending large amounts of money doing so.
