View Full Version : Porn Stream?

WHAT!?
Has anyone ELSE noticed the "Porn" channel? I'm sorry, but this is a community broadcasting directory and I really don't think this content should be readily available to people on Shoutcast.
I went so far as to click on that link and became gravely ill. I KNOW that content is illegal in many countries, and I seriously think this is a problem that needs attention. We have a lot of kids using Winamp, mostly because it's a CLEAN AND SAFE application that parents wouldn't normally have to worry about.
Is there anyway yp.shoutcast.com could block this stream from connecting to the directory?

that would require a censorship staff, I doubt this will happen, in the past they only removed content that was owned by someone else and being rebroadcast without permission. Perhaps a rating system would be more appropriate?

I would have to agree.
Somehow Nullsoft needs to address this before it gets to far along.

I've seen that, I felt as a beta tester it was my duty to research nsv streams, however i keep getting a server full error, for a completely unknown reason.
For academic use, could more people please start porn streams. Preferably at a high bandwith. And not gay.

Nullsoft, Inc. believes in the First Amendment to the US Constitution and will not review or censure any broadcast. That means, if you see "porn" in a description and might find something containing "porn" to be offensive, you are wielding the mouse button at your own risk. The rest of the world may censor itself into tedium but we're of the opinion that communities need to welcome everyone's views and tastes, even when some of us find them abhorrent or offensive.

I believe that Internet tv may be the last TRUE bastion of Freedom of Speech. No cecsorship should ever be applied to this glorious tool that allows anyone to say anything to anyone with the internet. If someone wants to set up a stream explaning how changing over the US to a communist country through violence and political assassinations and therefore bettering out society, SO BE IT. If some one wants to broadcast what a man and a women do to a midget with a donkey, its there perogative. And if an injustice has been done to a group of people, they have the right to complain to the world Via Nullsoft's incredable and powerful tool. Porn... You just wait till the KKK or Osama get a hold of a semi-smart computer literate person.. The Shatstorm will be on every news channel the world over.. which will do 2 things.. advertise winamp, and increase the number of viewers surfing around one thousand fold. Then AOL im sure will pull streaming video right out of the winamp program (Because they can) and the first amendment will once again be shoved under the carpet and stepped on. Dont give up too easy Nullsoft(do it for the LLamas) and those llamas children.

Hi everyone:That means, if you see "porn" in a description and might find something containing "porn" to be offensive, you are wielding the mouse button at your own risk. Given this, I may only consider porn AS A LAST RESORT aside from the ORIGINAL CONTENT I also plan to produce. HOWEVER since I have a website for the station, it would be IRRESPONSIBLE of me to be cautious as there are ALREADY existing laws which PROHIBIT such content from being made available from a website. It is BECAUSE of these laws that I *may* (underscore and stress that) set up a SEPERATE stream (provided this will be possible when the tools are final) which DOES NOT point to a particular website (or can be received from one).
It is with this in mind that I think we should be PRUDENT & RESPONSIBLE when deciding to set up a porn stream by NOT setting up a "The-Latest-Stuff-From-KaZaA" type of playlist.
[Note that I only named KaZaA as an example. If KaZaA is not your favorite P2P program, insert your own in place of KaZaA]
Will I start encoding my porn stuff into NSV?? Probably so. But, for now, it would only be so I can watch the clips locally AND to save disk space in the process (especially with those clips which are exceedingly long in length and large in size).
Would I share the directory?? Nope. Why?? Simple. How do I know you're NOT just some horny teenager wanting to get his rocks off looking at some chick getting it in the butt and/or to experience that first orgasm by way of masturbation?
By keeping the files LARGE in size and limiting the downloaders to those with AT LEAST cable or DSL, I'm not "opening myself up" as it were legally speaking (at least not very easily). Plus ISPs tend to track the bandwidth consumed by dialup users more so than they do broadband users (Back during my "Dialup Days", I *actually had* one ISP terminate my account because of this, however it was my radio station that cost me that account).
Finally.....With more and more MUSIC VIDEOS "pushing the envelope" further and further, what's the difference between that and an actual porn clip?? You still see THE SAME female body parts.
Just something to think about.
That's MY take on the matter. :)
Cheers for now :)

Ill from porn, lol, now that's a good one. Anyways, don't watch it if you don't like it.
What the people do on a porno is the same as what normal adults do in the bedroom, nothing sick about that.
Now if it were kiddie porn, that would be a different story, but I highly doubt it was or will ever be any on Winamp.
I too would like some more porn on Winamp, lol. Mmm, good stuff.

Patrick ... we need a list of what some of these music videos you speak of are ???
Yes I have noticed also that NSV is a pretty good compression rate
Can anybody from Nullsoft (or anybody who does have factual data) please tell me what the quality loss ratio is between say NSV and MPEG4 or DivX ??
thanx

One more Q for the fine folks at NS ...
Are their any plans to allow other players to support NSV files, or is it going to be kept proprietary for now ??
I love the compression rate .. but WA2's video support is mediocre at very best (sorry to say ...)
I would LOVE to be able to encode my movies in NSV but play them back on my overlay-based player of choice
that would mean approximately twice as many movies on my 120 GB secondary drive =)

NSV isn't an actual video codec, but a container forma. The public version uses On2's VP3 and the streams ran by Nullsoft use VP5.
There are a few conparisons out there, but I haven't really found anything good sofar. Though the MPEG4 based formats (DivX, Xvid, MPEG4, etc...) are probally going to be better then VP3.

Yeah ... I am thinking that MPEG4 is going to become industry standard very soon ... and will be standard compression for standalone machines to come also ...
I guess I need to quit my bitching, go invest in a faster DVD ROM than my current 24x player (for playback from CD-R this is crucial), and just burn stuff to CD-R ...
I already have S-video from my vid card to my TV and I LOVE IT !!!
For a $17 (canadian) part at Radio Shack, (S-Video to Composite adapter), I saved myself the $199 USD (plus shipping) for a CISS player.

Alright ... I have another good question ...
If NSV is a container like winZIP or winRAR ... is it possible to save files as NSV to save on space, and at a later date "unpack" then back to their previous format ??
Sawg

ZIP and RAR are not container formats, they are compression formats. AVI and ASF are media container formats. Apples and Oranges.
