Sex Pistols Rev Up for North American Tour

Let's put it this way, hardcore punk music, or any punk music for that matter, would not exist if not for the radical movement kicked off by the Sex Pistols in the mid ‘70s. As quickly as they rose, they crashed and burned becoming victim to the rock' n' roll clichés that they spoke out against such as selfishness and large drug use.

The Sex Pistols not only pioneered a genre of music, but they began a wave of sound in which political views are the staple with their 1977 album Never Mind the Bolloks, which became one of the most influential records of the 20th century. Artists ranging from Tupac Shakur to The Cranberries are prime examples of the broad impact the Pistols have had over the immense landscape of musical history.

The band has reunited before with huge success coming from their 1996 Filthy Lucre tour. This year's tour begins on Aug 20 at the Fleet Center in Boston and includes 12 shows before it concludes on Sept 7 in San Diego, CA. Rumors have it that with all the poppy punk out nowadays, such as Avril Lavigne and Sum 41, the Pistols want to come to North America and show the people what true punk really is.

this reminded me of "The Punk Rock Movie", it's a collection of various clips taken from punk groups during the late 70's and early 80's. god... i'll have to dig that up, i know i have it in a box somewhere. Sex Pistols and Billy Idol are widely featured in it. it's pretty damn hilarious.

If you ask me, punk died in 1980, and it'll never be revived with the same vigour. You just can't recreate the inferno of mid 70's London. It's history now. And frankly I'm amazed Johnny Rotten's still alive!

The image and the whole punk idea may have gone. But the music won't die in a hurry.

The Sex pistols suck. They only reason they were big was because it was something new.

Good?

At least it wasn't a rehash of something already done.
