Today, I have 2 recent pictures (taken today and yesterday) about pilgrimages from two different religions. Would you ever go on a pilgrimage for what you believe (this doesn't have to be a certain religion now, just some belief), what do you think about people that do this? Are they dumb or just devoted? A good example or something to shake your head at? Discuss, but keep t clean, no harassing of other religions, please!

A nun fills incense burners during a service to mark the 100th anniversary of the canonization of Russian Orthodox Saint Serafim Sarovsky, in the Serafimo-Diveyevski monastery in the village of Diveyevo, some 500 km southeast of Moscow. About 5,000 pilgrims made their way to the monastery today to pay tribute to one of the most venerated saints of the Orthodox Church.

A combination photo of various Hindu holy men, devotees and pilgrims, on the second day of the Kumbh Mela (Sacred Hindu Pilgrimage) in Nasik town, 180 km (112 miles) northeast of Bombay, yesterday. Hundreds of thousands of Hindu devotees have gathered in Nasik to participate in the month-long religious event. The Kumbh Mela occurs four times every twelve years at four different river bank locations in India.

no, I don't think they should waste there time nor there brain on such things, as it never results in anything positive. They only end up believing in something other then themselfs, because believeing in yourslef and fighting all your problems alone is harder, but it's a lesson that everyone must learn and know how to adapt to. So I think those events are pointless, unless they were proven by science to be of some use to the brain. Then I would say AWESOME. but that's sadly not the case here. So, in my opinion and in the current opinion of science, there pointless.

I found another picture kind of related to the ones above, but this time it's not about pilgrimage but about rites...I didn't want to start a whole new thread about it because it's fit into this religion theme; what do you think about rites? Actually, anyone has some kind of rites, they don't have do derive from religion. Do you find rites from other countries interesting, do they make sense to you or are they just believing in something that doesn't exist/will never happen? DOes it maybe just make people feel better although they don't really have a supernatural effect? Why are there rites in every country anyway, what's so special and important about them? Discuss! :)

Those are Hindus from Colombo, Sri Lanka who threw coconuts on the ground today as a part of a rite for their religious holiday celebrations.
