When you decide to make something, be it a piece of writing, a drawing, a painting, something in photoshop, what do you do for inspiration?

It depends for me on what theme I want to incorporate into my design or logo, or whatever. If it needs a professional touch, I'll stick to basic shapes. But like right now, I'm designing my site, I just let it flow.
For skins, I just paint random things with MSPaint. Sometimes it looks good, other times not. I just keep doing it till it looks good.

I use stuff that I see in real life, or possibly other works that I think could use a little different approach.

Hey Mr. oo7, you should post some of your drawings!
What inspires me.....good question.
For my Darkiron Drawings (which are elaborate and complexing abstract shapes drawn with a pencil), I usually tell myself: "This is gonna be the most wicked thing anyone has ever seen!" or something like that, and I end up challenging myself to make it the best it can be.
I would post those drawings on here, but there are problems with my scanner :(
For AVS, I don't know. I'm not sure how I start making presets, I think one of the ways is sometimes I start with a stupid preset I made, and then when I'm looking at other people's presets, I get more ideas on how to make it better. Sometimes I take a break from it for as long as 2 weeks, because I just can't get it right. Then one day I'll bring up AVS again, and I'll mess around with that preset and then I'll discover something incredibly cool and touch it up a little and it's done. I wish that happened all the time! :D

I use what comes natural to me...my past experiences. My poetry comes from within and my drawings are inspired by something that I have done, seen, etc.

Inspiration? I just draw what I feel like when I feel like it. Sometime's I don't feel like drawing, and when I do, I search for things that I like and might want to draw, like a car, anime character, or a person doing a skateboarding trick. Usually what gets me going is music especially, since it's never really limited to what they could signify, and that could get my imagination flowing if I listen to what the song's like. That usually gets me to draw of something that's real life, made up, or generic but somehow related to real life. There is nothing that really inspires me, I just draw as I go...

I'm currently teaching myself Bryce5 and learning more techniques in Photoshop 7. I really don't think I can draw worth a crap, but these programs have brought out the creative side in me. I find myself being inspired by a mix of what I see in real life, anime, and fantasy. My best friend and I are putting together an idea for a graphic novel of sorts.

Music is usually a good inspiration for me.
though recently the only thing that has "inspired" me to create any art is being forced by homework in my art classes.

Anything Art Deco ... or anything from the 1890's-1930's era where the ethos was "The potential of humanity is limitless... Man shall dominate the earth and create structures symbolic of Man's bending of its treasures to his will"

Listen to music, I use a few words sometimes from the lyrics. So what I come out with usaully depends on what band I'm listening too. Coz its usaully Linkin Park or some band like that, thats why my poems are always dark, and coz I find dark poems are alot easier to write.

True, but you really should not limit yourself to one aspect of poetry, you should at the very least attempt to write something other than gloom and doom, you know? I would be very interested in reading anything you come up with Jedi. :)

Hmmm... insperation, that seems to be my problem. My lack of that.
I just have nothing to draw. And seeing I dont like to draw humans too well (well unless I have a source image).

Just look around you. Your drawings don't have to be something spectacular. A tree, a chair whatever..Anything that makes you want to draw is good enough inspiration.

Music has to be the best inspiration for me. Something slow usually, but still with a good beat gets me going. For what I am going to draw, I usually just start out sketching basic shapes and see what comes out from there, and then I might finish it off as a good copy, or as a rough and then transfer it to good.
And I cant believe I didnt know about the art and design section before! This is now my FAVOURITE place.

Do you write poetry? Short stories? What? You should really post them in this forum so we can see your work. I'd be really interested to see what you've done. Post your drawings too, I'd like to see them, as well..

I usually play a game with monsters it it (especially Final Fantasy games) then I go and draw something based on them sorta...
Also, animals inspire me as well.
For anime drawings, I like to look or watch any anime before drawing, and also listening to the anime music. Makes me think of scenes with my characters in it.

I really got no idea what inspires me. I'll just think normally most the time, then for some reason or other (Still trying to figure out what, exactly) Something will pop into my head, and I'll turn it into a poem, which occasionally won't require much, if any effort, 'coz it'll be mostly complete. Dunno why, exactly.

Heavy drinking.
And inward thought, wondering about situations, just a need to draw or write.
Caffiene too. Nothing gets me moving like four cups of java.

Buses. Dunno why, but driving around on the bus with nothing to do, or think about tends to make me want to write something, and it just seems to pour out.
