No you do not need to buy web hosting to let everyone know your radio station's link it can be any.

Ex. (Geocities,Netfirms etc)

You might not be entering the link, the right way.

Example of how the link should be. http://yourip:portnum/listen.pls

enter the link like that it should work.

Ok first off this is an example of how your radio link must be http://192.364.125.11:8000/listen.pls (thats an example only).

To type it in frontpage type on the page click here to listen to the radio or what ever you want and highlight it then click hyperlink, after clicking hyperlink type in the link area what i shown you above but with your ip address and your port number (not the one i typed) then press ok & your set.

Cheers,

what are you giving them as the address, I'll try and see if I can connect or figure out why it's not working.

This is what's on http://www.server-radio.*************
http://192.168.1.100:8000/listen.pls

192.168.1.100 is a private lan ip and will only work for folks on your private lan.

******************

DNAS link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport
Listen link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport/listen.pls

Replace yourDNASip with the ip of the DNAS (SHOUTcast server) and yourDNASport with the DNAS port (default is 8000)

Example:
If your DNAS ip is 123.345.567.789 and your DNAS portBase is 2112, then your links would be:
DNAS link: http://123.345.567.789:2112
Listen link: http://123.345.567.789:2112/listen.pls

Also, if your router doesn't support local loopback then machines on the same lan as the DNAS (you) need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.
Machines not on the same lan as the DNAS (the rest of the world) need to use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.

Please don't give out urls with 127.0.0.1 as the ip. That is a local loopback ip.
See RFC3330 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3330.html) for more information.

Please don't give out urls with 192.168.x.y or 10.x.y.z as the ip. That is a private lan ip.
See RFC1918 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1918.html) for more information. Scroll down and look for the section titled:
3. Private Address Space

How to find your ip address (Part I). (http://www.whatismyip.com)
How to find your ip address (Part II). (http://www.computerjohn*******misc_tips/how_to_find_ip_address.htm)

Finally, you can get a static name, such as foo.bar.com (not as cool as that, though :)) from http://www.no-ip.com or one of the other myriad of Dynamic DNS Services (http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Internet/Servers/Address_Management/Dynamic_DNS_Services/).
Then, your links would be:
DNAS link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport
Listen link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport/listen.pls
