Hey guys, I was just wandering if there was any sumi-é artists about here.
I've started it an I'm kinda getting the hang of it but i wandered if anyone had any advice or help they would be willing to give me.
I got a book all about it and i have all the stuff, but I just cant seem to get some of the things like fish and that.
Please any help or advice I would greatly appreciate.

I have no idea what Sumi-e art is, but there's always alot of other forums or websites containing tips or how tos. Good luck and please show us your artwork when the time comes.

Sumi-é is a japanese art.
I'll find some pictures on google later.
I would post some of my art but I'll do that later too I dont know where the scanner is.

I dont know how to describe sumi-é, all i can say is that its spiritual painting type kinda thing.

I like the one you did in pencil, that's very pretty.

For a more true sumi-e look, use more paint on your brush. Be liberal with it. It's looking a bit watered-down.

We had a sumi-e exhibit when I worked at my college's museum. I loved going back and looking at the pictures every day, they're so beautiful. Most of them were very abstracted, and a lot had a watercolored background, like sunsets or water.

What kind of brush and ink are you using, out of curiosity?

I grind my own ink with an ink stick and grinding stone.
And I dont know what the brushes are...one's a small brown one I hink its horse hair not sure, the one I am currently using which was recomended for beggines is a long white haired one I think its mountain goats hair or something like that I have no idea, I'll try and find out for you later.

Yeah sure I will DragonSon, I aint had the time in a while, back to school and friking Gcse Course work shit stuff. I'll try and get some done though :)
