Idling away the hours one lonely afternoon I hit the channel-up button on the cable box yet another time, changing to usually reliable VH-1. What was there to greet me?
Cliff Richard - Wired For Sound.
Sheer dumbfoundedness, astonishment that a video could be so corny, somehow kept my digits off the same channel hop button, despite vigorous protests from my poor old ears and eyes.
Then you've got the video for Russ Abbott's Atmosphere (mentioned twice in a week? Sorry. This wasn't on TV, by the way, VH1 isn't that bad) which shows him wearing a dodgy sweater probably knitted by his aunt as a Christmas gift, dancing in a worse-than-dad style, in what appears to be a very empty Butlin's, generally classless venue. So, so tacky. Ugh.
So which videos make you retch, and why?

Any Hip-Hop video- 10 black women dancing in unison on an underlighted square grid floor, with a Hip Hop "Artist" lounging on a couch in front. In the 50% chance that another Hop Hop "Artist" is what the hip hop people call "Featured" that person will be dancing in front of the same 10 black women dancing in unision- only he will be in front of a gaudy custom lighted set or a lighted Fountain at night combined with an ostentatious luxury automobile.

Puddle Of Mudd - She Fucking Hates Me
It's just stupid...I like the band (Although they sometimes get on my nerves after awhile), but the music video is just dumb...I don't know how else to explain it...You've even got a girl lip-synching to the lyrics in the video...WTF? :weird:

...don't forget about the numerous rappers featured in the music video...So many, you don't know who's the lead rapper, who's actually rapping or not...Completly dumb... :hang:
Not to mention rap videos seem redundant...They all seem the same; It's always at a party, you'll notice 5 main guys in the music video which you can only assume they're the rappers and 30 other skimpy women just shaking their asses in the camera...That, or you'll just see them driving around in some "pimped-out" Escalade with chrome 20s, wearing a big fur coat and lots of jewelry...Is there a new contest amongst rappers to see who can show off the most gold necklaces in one wearing or what? :weird:
I just don't get it...Hopefully it will lead up with the paths of the dodo-bird and disco...

It's been going on for years. Notorious BIG's video, "Hypnotize," really set off the "big-budget" rap video trend a few years ago. Ever since then, its been nothing but platinum and gold plated crap video after crap video.

Just saw a Reo Speedwagon effort - the song is alright, but in the video, it was just the band watching themselves play the song, on a monitor. There was a random girl there too, who did nothing during the whole video. No marks for effort...

Something i saw on vh1's crappiest videos a while ago. A song by bobby conn, i can't remember the name but they were all sat on a crappy cardboard-looking set nodding their heads in the cheesiest possible fashion while this apparently "metally challenged""artist" was falling all over the floor at times and gurgling and occasionally actually trying to sing. I gave it points for sheer comedic value though.

Thriller was a great video, it still makes me smile.

Where's Your Head At, by Basement Jaxx, with the monkeys? It's more the song than the video that's annoying. Or did you mean that Put Your Hands Up one?
The song where the video is backwards is pretty cool
There are lots of those, some more info would be nice. You might be thinking of Coldplay's The Scientist, where Chris and a girl are thrown through the windscreen of a car after it crashes. That's really well shot.
I don't know what to make of the fact that there are different videos for Daft Punk's Digital Love. I've twice downloaded the stupid Anime version when I wanted the normal Robots one, as they both have the same filename. Grrr.

Any Depeche Mode video from the Violator era. The band walking through fields, how riveting.
