Well, as the title says, post your photography.
I guess I will start it off: buddha guy.png (http://chartermi.net/~laz9999/Buddha guy.png)
be warned, the image is about 3.8mb in size, ya its a huge loselessly compressed image. And it might not work in MS Internet Explorer.
I have better images, just not online right now, they are scanned on my grandma's computer... damn that cd-r for not working. it was a print that I had to scan.
Go on people, post your digi or film images. I know some of you have camers, and you MUST have taken pics of something other then your face.... Show it.
and ya, I know of the post your art thread, but, hell I want a photoaraphy one on its own.

The only photography I have up on the web right now is at my website (http://www.bexgd.com). I have a few more pics on my camera that I need to upload sooner or later. I'll let you all know when they're up :)
My favorite, btw, is the wheel from the brewery.

Not too bad...would look much better if it was in a higher quality, but because of the age of the prints and because of scanning without a photo-quality scanner, quality loss is expected.
Save up some money and buy yourself a camera, preferably with a macro function for closeups. All my shots are taken with an olympus c-5050 zoom (35mm-104mm equivalent) with a focusing distance of 3cm.
Anyways, at your library, look for camera reviews in a consumer reports book. You can by a fairly good point-and-shoot for around $100. SLRs are more expensive, mainly because of the cost of lenses. I started out on my parent's old Nikon- manual focus, aperature-priority (you set the aperature, the camera sets the shutter speed). So, once you feel comfortable with your point-and-shood, buy a secondhand camera and some used books on photography. As your needs grow, you can buy more and more lenses for your purposes (telephoto, wide-angle, macro). Then, look at more advanced film SLRs, or a high-end point-and-shoot. The most important idea is to keep experimenting, don't be afraid to try new techniques.

nice nice everyone.
Well I have a few more, but I have no scaner of my own, and they are on my grandmothers crap-tastic computer. And I have no way to get them other then to e-mail them, and I have only gotten about 4 now, and I am waiting for the actualy good pictures before I post more, and to get them up on my web-page. But it doesnt like to have to upload large files (anything more then oh say 100kb, and the pics are on average almost 4mb...)

I'm fourteen and I use a trusty old-school Canon AE-1 Program. First camera with a microchip. :)
Ah, you guys really shouldn't use links from DevArt. The screenshot system in DevArt is fucked up nowadays. They're trying to iron it out. I couldn't understand Russ' panoramas because of it.

I also have a Nikon FTN, Olympus OM-2 and Olympus IS1000, which I rarely use these days because getting film developed is such a pain. Digital is great.

ok, here's the screenshot :p
(not really exciting, just a wallpaper)
shot (http://home.student.uva.nl/siebe.dekorte/winterss.png)
not completely satisfied with how it's shown on the desktop
it's not showed completely, since it has a different ratio than the desktop
first I had it stretched, but that would make it shrink horizontally
anyway, i do like it the way it is now: looks nice :)
the bottle is nice: reflecting the light
though I like pics which reflect a mood more
a mysterious landscape or weird weather conditions, such sort of things :p
not really into the compositional pics, more pics that just happened to be shot at the time
@cabo
I like watching birds i don't know the name of while sitting in the park
(not all birds btw: in town a lot of filthy pigeons around, I prefer the small ones)
a friend of mine knows lots of bird names; I always forget them :(
if it's a nice pic and it's not too much effort, yeah would be nice :)

Here are two of my favorite digital photography pictures... :D
http://ford427v8.50megs.com/cgi-bin/i/Pictures/Misc/04212004sunset.jpg - I took a picture of this sunset when I was riding with my mom down, uhh...Damn, forgot what road it is...Took this back in April when it was still cool enough to wear a hoodie outside, this was one of the last good "winter" sunsets (Spring never came around Louisville :p )...Have a few "suburban" points of interest to an otherwise "nature" picture, with the highway on-ramp and cars and stuff...Oh, and look at those twin arches in the background...I feel hungry now... ;) :p
http://midnightviper88.50megs.com/cgi-bin/i/Pictures/Misc/06202004%20Ohio%20River%20Sunset.jpg - Took this on the night of the summer...What do you call it? The longest day in summer and after that the days get shorter? Whatever it's called, I tried to get in the quarter-cresent moon, and if possible, one of the passing boats to add a few more points of interest...This is at a resturaunt called "Captains Quarters" right near a boat dock (No doubt :) ), this is the Ohio River, and this picture is facing the Indiana side of the river...I would've liked to get a bigger boat, especially one with alot of lights to reflect off the water, but none came (Well, one did come, but that was whent he sunset was pretty much already gone)...I would've also gotten the sunset itself, but for the longest time for the sun to set, that day's sunset wasn't interesting at all... :(
Oh well... :)
CaptainNuss
11th July 2004, 15:43
I like the sky on the first picture, even though it would have been better if it wouldn't have been shot out of the car, but well, you can't really stop and get out to take a picture. :) The second picture is a bit grainy. How long was the exposure time?
Attached is a picture I took on the 25th of December of a present my cousin got. I really like this one because of the warm, vivid colors and the long exposure which adds some sort of motion to the picture.

My digital camera's ISO speed isn't happy with clear pictures in dark areas, even when I set for a long exposure time...I had another picture just a few minutes after taking that with a larger boat that didn't have as much noise, but because of the long exposure time, it came out slightly blurry because I accidentally moved it a bit...Whoops... :D

Wow, great pics Cabo! I'm impressed!
The one thing that gets to me though is that: maybe it's your camera, or your graphics program, but something is just compressing the hell out of those pictures. When I'm working on something in photoshop, I usually save it as a .tiff file (no compression), and then when it's finally done I save another copy as a .jpg file (so I can upload it and not have it be huge)
You should go on deviantart if your looking for a website or something.

Just discovered this thread... I had never ventured into Arts and Design before. Will start to more often now! Some of your pictures are really good, not the usual crap people put on the internet of their family in different poses blocking the view. I have a canon powershot S400, a compact point and shoot thing, but with quite a lot of manual control (pretty much everything except the aperture).
xzxzzx, I've seen lots of the stuff in your Denmark pics, the Elsinore castle ones are good. When I was there that day I watched some guys jump in the water and swim to Sweden.

It snowed tonight so I took a couple of photos of the tree outside my house with the branches all covered.
The tree bumps up against the street light and it's caused the light to malfunction. It turns on and off randomly through the night. I took this one second exposure when it was off. I then did some serious levels and contrast tweaking in photoshop.

I usually despise pictures of domesticated animals, or animals in general, but the lighting is neat. It would be interesting to see the source of the light cropped out. I'm glad you decided to give it a border and resize it. Most photographs on dA are borderless 1800x1800.

Some pictures of lorikeet I took while at the Louisville Zoo yesterday...
These birds are very pretty, since they're very colorful...These particular birds at the exhibit were trained to land on people's heads and everything...I didn't have any land on me (One did land on my dad's head, but my stupid camera took too long to turn on before it flew away), but they did enjoy the human company, especially for those with nectar...
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/59835132/
This bird kept getting onto the walkway, which isn't good for the lorikeets, since they might accidentally get stepped on...
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/59835194/
There was a forth bird in this "group", but he was far off to the side and didn't join in with the others...Moments after I had taken this picture, the four of them got into a bird fight...

I took a few more sets of shots this past weekend while I was in Louisiana visiting with my mom. I've only had enough time so far this week to work on the first set, so I'll just post that right now.
This is the state capitol building in Baton Rouge, LA. I had my photo gear set up in the middle of the intersection of N. 4th Street and North Street (about a quarter mile away from the front doors of the capitol building).
img_4431[s].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4431%5bs%5d.jpg) - Underexposed shot.
img_4430[s].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4430%5bs%5d.jpg) - Normal exposure.
img_4432[s].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4432%5bs%5d.jpg) - Overexposed shot.
img_4432[hdr].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4432%5bhdr%5d.jpg) - HDR image. (2400 x 1600, 1927.18 KB)
I wasn't overly pleased with the results, actually. I apologize for the lens flare and ghosting again. I used a different lens for this set, and I forgot that it also had a UV Haze filter on it. Personally, I'd rate it as "decent." What's everyone else think of it?

Decent too, it's good, but not something i'd use as a background or get printed.
skryingbreath
25th April 2008, 03:57
I think you have achieved a better contrast and more naturalistic photograph with just the single normal exposure. Really I find HDR useful for starkly lit natural landscapes when the photographer didn't have the advantage of a cloudy day, or is shooting at mid-noon when shadows are darkest and highlights are blown. HDR bumps the mids/blacks/shadows up to ad more balance. Night photography is what I would describe as needing a lot of dark space, so HDR is pointless in this execution.

In this casee, definitely, since the HDR offers hardly any additional information (except flare and ghosting ;)).
You might get a better result by just bringing the trees up a bit but leaving the sky and the (pretty evenly lit) building alone, but really that subject doesn't need any HDR tricks.

The reason I tried HDR for this one is because of the bright areas. If you look at the street lamps in the normal exposure versus the HDR image, you can see that they're quite a bit more drowned out in the former whereas they're more detailed in the latter. The normal exposure does look a lot more clean and clear, though. I might just try and fix up the normal exposure to see if I can make it better. I'll have some different shots up in the next few days.

This one turned out better than the last. I took this shot from the top of the levee on the east bank of the Mississippi River near the intersection of River Rd and Convention St in Baton Rouge, LA. looking southwest (towards Port Allen) at the I-10 bridge.
I'll spare you the before and after shots. This image is comprised of three exposures, about two dozen layers, and three hours of post-process. Still not the best, though.

This is a great use of HDR. The reflections in the water wouldn't have been possible without the several exposures. To make the composition better I'd crop the photo to the lights, get rid of the unneeded things on each side.

I didn't crop this one because I wanted to show how I framed the original exposures. (Actually, I had to crop four pixels off the top and left sides of the original 3456x2304 image because of alignment issues, but that was it.) I'll probably go back and crop it more a bit later. I'm pretty happy with the way that one turned out, for the most part. I also just got done uploading another picture...
img_4433[hdr].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4433%5bhdr%5d.jpg)
I had my camera set up in the same spot for this shot as it was in the last one. I just turned it to face west directly across the river to catch this bigass tug boat. Not quite as much post-process as the last one, but almost.

I wish I actually realized how interesting boat wakes look in a sunset when I was out last summer. I could have taken some real nice shots. Alas, I didn't think of it. Perhaps next time. For now there is this not-so-good one.

I like the colors in that shot.
These two aren't HDR, but they did take a little post-process time to compile. They're composite shots using several bulb exposures layered together. The first one was taken at the intersection of River Rd and Convention St (looking east) in downtown Baton Rouge, LA. The second shot was taken from the pedestrian overpass above River Rd in between North Blvd and Government St (looking north) in Baton Rouge, also.

img_4495[100dpi].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4495%5b100dpi%5d.jpg)
Here's my latest HDR submission:
img_4508[100dpi].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4508%5b100dpi%5d.jpg) Normal exposure.
img_4509[hdr100dpi].jpg (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4509%5bhdr100dpi%5d.jpg) Final HDR image.
This is the old capital building in downtown Baton Rouge at the intersection of North Blvd and River Rd. I took these images (three exposures altogether) at the west gate (on River Rd) looking east at the building. This image took all three exposures, 60+ layers, and about five hours of post-process. Until I can build a new computer, my HDR images are going to look grainy like that simply because my current system (almost three years old now) isn't powerful enough to handle extreme high-quality without running out of resources.
Also, if anyone wants the full-resolution version, you can get it here (http://sarge.wheresthebeef.co.uk/Misc/350D_misc_100/IMG_4509%20%5bHDR%20100DPI%5d.png) (large file).

They need to change a light bulb (left post at top of staircase) and add a security camera (rightmost lamp post).
Very nice shots though. I can see the limited number of colors, especially in the full-res - is that something that a better system would fix, and if so, what kind of specs would you need to do the job to your liking?

Why do you need 60 layers? That's insane. The only reason you need that many is if you're retouching/mattepainting or dodging and burning like a motherfucker. There are simple ways to cut down processing timing. I've gotten mine down to a max of 15 minutes, sometimes an hour if a photo needs specific correcting/dodging.
What's taking so long?

I do manually what Photomatix does automatically. The number of layers I end up with depends on the settings I use when I make my selections. The tighter the tolerance I use, the more layers I end up with and the less grainy the image looks.
They need to change a light bulb (left post at top of staircase) and add a security camera (rightmost lamp post).
Yeah, I noticed that after I took the shots. I was mad because it messed up my perfect picture. :P

Where were you?
You always seem to include boarders. It's a good thing.
I can tell you put a lot of work into lighting and making sure only the colors you wanted to show up, but despite all that work, the thing that gets me most is the curiousity as to what the hell the material the tiles are made of. They almost look like slate.
The pic is something that warrants some time spent looking at it. I will never pretend to be a photography critic, but I'll still say it's intriguing anyway.

How did that happen? I just googled for a post that explained posting pics, and got shoutcast? Never noticed till now. I had no idea forums.shoutcast.com and forums.winamp.com were the same...

Edit - seems to work, but resizing was hard to find on that program, but I found it.
I've been using VSO lately to resize. It's right there in the right click menu and allows resizing of multiple pictures right away. I miss the "powertoys" that were around on XP.

If you don't mind using command line get ImageMagick, it also has the best downsizing filter among the software I know of (properly implemented Lanczos).

Command line is a weakness for me, but I might try it anyway.

This is what I mean by best downsizing filter (note the moiré):
http://xs135.xs.to/xs135/09021/resizingexample867.jpg.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs135&d=09021&f=resizingexample867.jpg)
Photoshop offers two different bicubic settings (sharp or smooth) but neither fare any better (or at least used to in older versions). The problem seems to be that most programs use a filter kernel based on the source image size, which is correct for up- but wrong for downsizing (as with audio downsampling you have to remove frequencies that are above Nyquist in the target, else you get the nice artifacts seen above).

i use xnview for my picture viewing/converting/resizing
handles pretty much every format (even videos, audio, pdf), integrates into rightclick for converting, set wallpaper, and send to imageshack(<-pretty usefull)

sgtfuzzbubble011
19th January 2009, 04:09
I used my UltraPod II (http://www.pedcopods.com/up2.htm) for the first shot. I took the second shot with my camera propped up on my half-rolled-down window (because it was freakin' cold outside, and I didn't feel like getting out of my truck again :p).
First shot:
Shutter - 1 second
Aperture - F/2.6
Focal Length - 6 mm
ISO - 100
Second shot:
Shutter - 0.5 second
Aperture - F/3.5
Focal Length - 10 mm
ISO - 200
And thanks. :)
