"Favorite guitar solos" has been done...Let's hear who your favorite guitarists are, since guitars don't play themselves... :)
Angus Young - Lead for AC/DC
Kirk Hammet - Lead for Metallica
Feildy - Bass for KoRn
Tom Morello - Lead for RATM
Alex Lifeson - Lead for Rush
Flea - Bass for RHCP (One of the people I often over-look, but notice may have been part of my inspiration to play bass guitar myself)
My thinking's fuzzy, so that's all that's coming up at the moment...I know tons others, but I can't think of the bands, more-less the guitarists...

The undisputed bass champion of the world is mark King from Level 42. They call him , "thunder thumbs". His hands are a blur when he plays. its unreal.

Everyone's overlooking the Jesus & Mary Chain. They virtually started from scratch. I owe a quarter of my record collection to them.

Once again people, "slap" bass is an abomination before good music and is punishable by burning at the stake.
