i say hetfield. some of his lyrics are amazing. ever read the lyrics to disposable heroes, master of puppets, one, for whom the bell tolls, . . . and justice for all, or basically anything else before the black album. for some reason it surprises a lot of people but he writes some of the most meaningful lyrics you'll ever hear. he sings about political issues and surprisingly enough, he was written numerous anti-war and anti-drug songs.

and unlike a lot of metal singers, he can actually sing and even when he is doing his growl thing, hes still singing and not just random screaming.

i suppose everyone has noticed that in every single one of these threads ive blindly suppored metallica. no accident. not too many bands can match what they pulled off before they sold out. in terms of music, lyrics, and pure energy, they kick major ass.

have you ever listened to tool? at least in my eyes, they're better in every angle you mention there, with the possible exception of "anti-war and anti-drug songs", since their lyrics tend to have far deeper meaning.
