well 2 yrs, 2 urban artists, not very suprised tho i kinda wanted an underdog to win and not coldplay, radiohead or the darkness, and his was the best album hopefully it will raise his profile a lot now.
lol, wonder if any1 outside the uk will have any idea what im taking about

Nice one Dizzee. Including the lesser known talents in the shortlist is what makes the Mercury more credible than, say, the brits. Good choice

The Mercury what? Is that crap still going????
The first year Primal Scream won (I believe with Screamadelica). The commentator said to Bobby Gillespie "Everyone expected you to win, it's a bit of an anti-climax". Bobby answered thus "Well I thought it was an uncle-climax actually". Wise words indeed (from one of my heroes).
Every year since has been crap. Does Mercury even still exist as a company???

You say that, but you have decidedly 'unconventional' taste... :p
Mercury, the people who made the phones with the mysterious blue button? No, they got absorbed into the rest of Cable & Wireless.

Oh yes that's right. I can't understand why The Darkness didn't win. I reckon the winner's chosen by a record exec's niece (or a man who wears pin-striped long johns). I remember Ms Dynamite won it last year. Yeah right.

The Darkness didn't win because they peddle tired re-hashes of best forgotten 'epic' rock.
Ms Dyaminate and Dizzee Rascal won because they are fresh, new and exciting...not the same tired sh*t that's been peddled since the seventies.

Which is why the MMP sucks. They dish the prize out to anyone considered 'fresh', despite the fact they're crap. There are no credible music awards.

Youthinking they're crap, dosen't mean they are crap. You would rather they gave the award to whoever sounds the same as any previous winner? The Mercury Prize at least tries to encourage and publise musicians that are not normally mentioned in the mainstream media...is this a bad thing?
I think The Mercury Prize has a good track record of awarding to innovative and new artists; Tavinder Singh, Ms Dynamite & Dizzee Rascal.
The Darkness, just what we need, another version of Led Zepplin.
