View Full Version : Ampburners Phoenix

I've gotten to a point where I'm eager to show off some of the skin that I have in progress though its far from complete I'd like to have a few thoughts on the simplistic design that I have adopted.
I am not sure why or how this is becoming what it is other than I like it and its something that is a bit different for me...though, maintains as my skins always do something from previous skins...always the evolving skinner.
Anyways here it is:

Nice design Garet jax!:D
also need to more contrast!;)
12th September 2003, 16:27
Complete piece of crap. Consider stopping the project right NOW.
Just Kidding, too early to really tell how decent it will be but no fuck ups yet.
14th September 2003, 03:47
excellent response drake...hahaha
14th September 2003, 04:11
looks hot im looking foword to seeing what u do with it
14th September 2003, 12:14
another amazing lookin Jax skin in the making. All your skins have a style with them, this one dosen't have the style as strong as your other skins, you can tell it's your skin... Unless you was blind.. but how would you use a pc if you was blind...
anyways, looking really good dude, can't wait to see more :)
14th September 2003, 15:00
it looks like it's going to have a really nice style to it. The only comments I'd have so far would be (1) change that orange a bit - maybe make it darker, or maybe lighter - something seems a bit amiss with it. & (2) I think it it looks a bit dull at the moment. Not dull as in boring, but dull as in matte and not shiny enough. I think adding some of the sheen that your remix had would work well.
14th September 2003, 21:08
Looking nice so far, only things I can see maybe is the vol/bal section, the metal there looks blurrier than the sharp tone to the rest, and I'm not sure about the shade buttons, the shape and size don't seem to fit the sleek overlaying of the rest. I like the dark orange, kind of a "burnt sienna" in crayola terms :p and not a typical color, and the way the areas seem to overlay each other - and the bottom of the viz looks cool and different - is something along that style going to appear anywhere else?
14th September 2003, 22:56
Nice and smooth. I like it, although the colors aren't my favs...maybe you could release a blue/green version.
15th September 2003, 18:38
As far as different colour schemes...I am one of the few skinners that after I'm done I only revisit to refine. As far as blue/green version...nah.
Information on the current design info: I am adding quite a bit to the main...my reasoning for showing only the main at first is to judge the overall acceptance of the design...and get a feel for what general statements come....I know that the orange color is definately not a normal skin tone that is used typically on metal type skins...however, I always try to do something different.
The vis-look will be carried out in 3 different areas...though at present I only have a sketch of where that falls and not in digital print yet. But, a similar design had reared itself in the cbutton row...
Anyways I should have a new ss soon...
16th September 2003, 08:24
Well, here is a bit further along with some interesting choices...
Criticism welcome...anal aeronautics not.
I know there is some smoothing and etc needed on the mono|ster for now its only a possibility I'm not sure if I will complete the skin with that area as it stands except the color.
16th September 2003, 18:35
what plans for the posbar slider? I admit I'm VERY curious which way you're planning on going with the buttons on this, since I can see a couple of directions that would be interesting. Only suggestion at the moment I can think of (apart from the shade buttons, which I'm not sure you've even worked on lol) is the little "empty" areas on either side of thebar where the cbuts and shuf/rep/menu button are maybe could use a little grabby metal thingy coming out or something? Just a thought, and yeah, I know my descriptions lack a certain... pinache :D
16th September 2003, 18:48
Looks interesting especially around viz, balance and posbar.
The orange compared to the yellow in the 2nd shot is a little washed out. Did you make the text aerea and kbps/khz different colors on purpose?
17th September 2003, 00:21
Color difference ... Yes I did...
cbuttons I've played with a bit...
So far I'm thinking on a form of a toggle button... (up|down) slide for them...fat not slender...I think you'd call them thumb sliders...like the old style...when you flip it up...a light goes on and the button is seen in a different position...
17th September 2003, 02:27
update - more complete
17th September 2003, 10:01
 I like the direction this is taking, keep it coming!
18th September 2003, 01:49
Huge Update -
18th September 2003, 03:11
nice one joe ;)
18th September 2003, 03:22
I like the version before that one A LOT better
sry, but i think the c-buttons kill it in the new version...hell, it looks like a new skin all-together
18th September 2003, 03:26
ur goin around in circles dlinkwit27?
anyway, i think joe in his last post shows where joe is detaching himself off ampburner style. pastel colours imho
18th September 2003, 03:29
the link in the above post goes to a few posts up, to the post with "main.png" as the attachemt (dated 9-16-03). :) Just saying I liked the second to last update better than the most recent one.
18th September 2003, 21:28
yes, everyone has their tastes...I'm trying something new. This is still Ampburner skin but, I want to make sure that I live up to his expectation first and primarily...though the style is drastically different altogether than previous posts, I personally feel that more is being done to make a truly fine skin.

looks nice, very complex, keep up the work
19th September 2003, 16:51
great work, I like :)
21st September 2003, 06:24
Main is finished and working...here is the current finished product - I am now onto the eq
21st September 2003, 09:33
I have spent several hours this late in the am doing multiple revisions on the eq and a bit of redesign on the main so that it fits correctly when the eq is pressed up to it.
First and foremost, thanx for the tips Peaceman...Appreciative of ya.
Everyone else here is the know more complete Ampburner - Phoenix (heh Almost called it Devour III)
21st September 2003, 10:53
nice, you've gotten alot better.:)
you should try making the "flap" over the eq bars a closer color to the slider so it'll look better.
21st September 2003, 10:57
Good Suggestion Xeno...I will see what I can do...as I am in progress on this right now...I may be able to take a look at your suggestion and see if I can introduce something similar...
21st September 2003, 16:40
Sweet. I like the color scheme. The text is very easy to read.
22nd September 2003, 01:51
It looks nice... I kinda miss the reddish brown that made the earlier pictures look like an old person's car... but the layout and stuff is good.
22nd September 2003, 11:36
Jax maybe add some of the colour from the earlyer shots? I loved the orange-y brown colour! Try bring it back. It's looking extreemly nice right now tho
22nd September 2003, 15:38
This is a romantic skin garet jax!
22nd September 2003, 22:46
I don't know how appropriate the term "romantic" is in this context. Still a good skin tho.
22nd September 2003, 22:52
From what I've gathered, "romantic" means "sexy" in 007-speak.
22nd September 2003, 22:55
Started out romantic, now it is more cold.
The playlist titlebar is a little too straight, could have some curves.
23rd September 2003, 02:19
joe, i hope you get around to adding more of the red/brown colour back in.
the only thing is. where
23rd September 2003, 13:21
Aha Jax I see everything you told me about now ;) Hehe very nice little ways of adding meaning to the skin.

Pow right in the middle of doing this new skin my new pc showed up...and wow...heaven...
Anyways...I've finally started working on it again and I think I'm back up to par with my designs...
What do you think...
1st October 2003, 18:57
wow man this is looking really good. im not sure i like those things under the cbuttons though. they look like they're hanging down kind of low.
the minimize, winshade, and clost buttons look a bit too plain in my opinion. try making them brigher or maybe not perfectly round.
the only other thing i would think about changing is those areas that are almost white on the sides of the EQ. i would make them a bit darker and closer to grey
3rd October 2003, 01:29
3rd October 2003, 02:04
Ummm... there seems to be a mistake in your EQ on/off and auto/man buttons, and your Pl stacks are off by a bit. And, hmm. Good design for a skin, but you have quite a few little bugs for the picky. Do you have a good skinning template?
3rd October 2003, 05:02
i dun use templates...
but, i will be releasing an update in lieu of the errors described here.
as far as the pl.stacks this is the way i wanted them...
think u can do better...go for it.

6th October 2003, 17:08
Not requested seems to mean that you just left the bugs in, lol.
6th October 2003, 17:15
Oh was I being rude?
One bug in Repeat when you use shuffle,
one bug in EQon/off when you use Auto
Auto has no pressed stat...
Thats just the ones Luigi already found...
Whats the update?
6th October 2003, 18:12
1. there is not a bug in the shuffle/repeat...
2. I left out the auto (purpose) I don't use it.
*(ie no pressed state)
3. Lights (non-existent on eq/auto)...This was a deliberate thing.
4. Eq - Close/Min (fixed).
5. Playlist - Changed Color (1pt up)
6. Changed Load Button and Sort to have correct tiling.
7. Change onstates to Min/Max for pl/ml/vid
8. Revised Mikro.bmp
alot of little things...
All my skins contain the same thing...template or not...I always leave a few areas the exact same regardless of whether or not it seems as though you believe it to be a bug or not. I understand your frustration or critisism but, my reply Though, not exactly as requested...Is because, I have always maintained specific things to my skins...Finished products contain 'bugz' as you would call them...To me they are my signature...Like it or not its my way.
No, I'm not trying to be rude but rather trying to give you the understanding that I choose to leave them as they are.
Thats just the ones Luigi already found...
Whats the update?
7th October 2003, 01:35
No problem, if you decide that bugs are your signature.
The 'signature' in shuffle/repeat i was talking about is that if they are both switched off and you turn shuffle on, the lamp of repeat changes on the left side.
A left out button (auto) that is there visible but just has no different state is a little confusing, but yeah, all your decision.
I admit I was a little pissed by the answer you gave to Luigi :D
8th October 2003, 19:35
I don't know him...and I don't particular do well with those that I do not know. As for a further...The Auto = I don't use and don't skin...The Repeat button was deliberate...as I thought it looked better to have a slight adjustment difference between shuffle | repeat.
