I have to admit, I have a penchant for text-based RPGs. Rather than being drawn to them by the actual gameplay (that REALLY only takes a few minutes each day), I'm probably drawn to them by the community and message boards.
I play http://www.alienaa.com/cgi-bin/c.fcgi?id=177363 (A3: Awakening), and used to be a manager for an old online game Criminals-RPG (with over 10,000 players).
Am I the only one who has (or dares to admit that he/she has) a liking for online text-based RPGs? :P
Note: Sorry for the ******-like link, I figure if you're going to go find out about it you'd might as well give me a helping hand in a contest that's being run. Don't worry, the actual game is nothing like the accursed ******. ;)
Edit: Ho, ho, ho! You've made the word Out*war a curse word? GOOD ON YOU! :D

Muds rule.
I've played 3 Kingdoms (http://www.3k.org) on and off for almost 8 years now.
I also run my own fledgling/hobby SMAUG (http://www.smaug.org) based mud FesterMud (http://www.festerhead.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=5) which is mostly stock.

I prefer REAL RPG's. You know, not stting in front of a computer, but at a table with your friends and whatnot. That is more fun to me, seeing I am with other people, in the flesh.

Had loads for the ZX Spectrum ("The Hobbit" being the best). Of course, text-adventures were necessary for machines with only 16kb of memory. I even programmed me own:
10 if input$ = "N" then goto 100
11 if input$ = "S" then goto 110
12 if input$ = "E" then goto 120
13 if input$ = "W" then goto 130

101 cls: print "You are at the old oak tree, bla bla bla.

I used to have NetHack, it was the weirdest thing.
Also used to have a Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy game on the 486. Having read the book or seen the film would have helped me understand I suppose.

I *looove* text based rpgs. They rock my world. I hate real life ones, like LARPS. Ate my friend's whole life one semester at college!
