Hey. =)

This isn't really a winamp2skins topic, but it fits this forum better than any other on the Winamp forums set, so here it goes.

I'm making a new site for a group of friends who've helped me out in the past. The shell of it is here: http://www.geocities.com/hughmarshall/qdba

-It's on GeoCities 'cos it's free and easiest for me to upload to at the moment.
-The site will get its own domain name and real hosting.
-The link to "The Collective" on the copyright page will be changed - I was planning on registering "The Collective" as a business name, but someone beat me to it, so I'll change it to something much much cooler.
-There's no content yet.. and the info which is there is made up.
-I'll be using a custom DTD, so no need to bitch about validation. =)

All constructive criticism will be appreciated.

Cheers,
-jaz.

edit: moved from Winamp 2 Skins. -jaz =D

Alright, this is what I see:

1. At the Enter page, you should definately change the text style. It really doesn't match the theme as a whole of the page. Change the Font style as well, honestly, it looks bland and uninteresting. If you want people to enter, make it eye-catching. I don't know, maybe a script-like font? The choice is up to you. Also, move the 'Enter' button below the Basketball, it doesn't look right where it's placed.

2. Alright, the index. First, re-size the title to fit with the edges of the contents of the page. Again, change the font style and color. Second, I'd either change the background of the ENTIRE page, or change the border of the content boxes to something different, because a border melding into the background then reappearing at the bottom of the content doesn't look right. I'd either make it a solid border, or have no border at all. Also, it's a little bright, hurts my eyes. Change the color scheme to make it more appealing to people. Also, I'd change the links color. Blue does not match the entire theme of the page. Maybe make images for the links themselves and then link them to that page to make it look real good? Again, up to you. Another thing, I'd get rid of that parenthesis around the current page. Doesn't seem right to me for some reason. If you really want something there for the person to know what page their on, maybe a good old dash on both sides?

That's about all I can tell for now, until you actually have it up and running as you want it, then I can help you further.

Change the text style, and the font style? Can you specify which one/s you are referring to?

Alright, the index. First, re-size the title to fit with the edges of the contents of the page. Again, change the font style and color.

So, have the header text only as wide as the sum of the text areas? (the white parts)

Second, I'd either change the background of the ENTIRE page, or change the border of the content boxes to something different, because a border melding into the background then reappearing at the bottom of the content doesn't look right.

Okay, I'll see what I can do about that one.

I'd either make it a solid border, or have no border at all. Also, it's a little bright, hurts my eyes. Change the color scheme to make it more appealing to people.

More appealing to you, then? =P Seriously though... I want to keep the colours fairly neutral and professional-looking, hence the stark white text boxes, 1px borders.. yeah.

Also, I'd change the links color. Blue does not match the entire theme of the page.

Again, I've used the standard blue link colour to have the links easily recongisable as links - everyone knows blue=link.

Maybe make images for the links themselves and then link them to that page to make it look real good? Again, up to you.

I understand the "make images for 'em" part, but the rest of this part confused me. I might make images for them... if I can keep the filesizes RIGHT down. A big thing for me is to keep loading times to a minimum.

Another thing, I'd get rid of that parenthesis around the current page. Doesn't seem right to me for some reason. If you really want something there for the person to know what page their on, maybe a good old dash on both sides?

Yeah.. I've been playing with this bit for a while, and can't really settle on what to use here. I want to use something in the Windows-Western charmap set for Arial.. any other suggestions apart from hyphens (which I will try, btw)?

That's about all I can tell for now, until you actually have it up and running as you want it, then I can help you further.

Ta. =)

I'll post again after I've played around some more, but if I can get some more feedback, and maybe some clarification from DragonSon =D, that'd be schweet.

Cheers,
-jaz

"Queensland Deaf Basketball Association." The style doesn't look quite right and the font is too bland.

So, have the header text only as wide as the sum of the text areas? (the white parts)

Yes. It makes the page look a lot more neat and consice. Having evenly ruled borders and such makes it look a lot better.

More appealing to you, then? =P Seriously though... I want to keep the colours fairly neutral and professional-looking, hence the stark white text boxes, 1px borders.. yeah.

Okay...nuetral is fine, but if you are keeping it professional, you still might want to change it to a lighter color, maybe an off-white or egg color? Something white but darker than what you already have in use.

Again, I've used the standard blue link colour to have the links easily recongisable as links - everyone knows blue=link.

Duely noted, but at least promise me you'll change them when you actually get the site going?

I understand the "make images for 'em" part, but the rest of this part confused me. I might make images for them... if I can keep the filesizes RIGHT down. A big thing for me is to keep loading times to a minimum.

It was kind of late when I posted that, but what I meant was make an image link to the different pages. It would make the site a whole lot more appealing. By the by, you could keep the size down, if you have Photoshop, just keep the size down on the image. If you need help with that, let me know. :D

Yeah.. I've been playing with this bit for a while, and can't really settle on what to use here. I want to use something in the Windows-Western charmap set for Arial.. any other suggestions apart from hyphens (which I will try, btw)?[I]

Hmmmm....maybe an astericks around them? Or maybe a little image you can create yourself?

[I]I'll post again after I've played around some more, but if I can get some more feedback, and maybe some clarification from DragonSon =D, that'd be schweet.

Here ya go. :D

I've installed Dreamweaver 4, and have made a template and stuff for the site, so it'll be easier to change junk from now on.. yumminess. I've changed it around a bit, and will up it and provide all-impotent linkage when she's a goer.

Nonsensical? Learn Strine. =P

Okay, I know you've all been hanging out for an update to this fantastic website-to-be, so I've been working hard over this weekend, well actually only the last hour or so but nevertheless, here ye go:

Hit me with your best proverbial shots. Plz. K. Thx. Bai.

edit: I knew I should've made a new post, instead of editing this old one. Again. The kids don't get it. They're lost, confused, and they want their mommies. That'll learn me for trying to.. keep my post count down or something.. (?) Whatever. Werd.
