Sounds to me like the next big 3DO or that linux based console that did everything but was never produced and was all PR but here goes.

This info was found in my brothers trusy gameinformer magazine

http://www.phantom.net

Below is directly typed from the article. Go buy the magazine cuz its coo.

Infinium Labs has finally supplied some tehcnical specs for its Phantom system. The broadband console doesn't utilize software, but instead plans to deliver its content via downloads of cross-console games, including PC titles. As of the time of this writing, no major publishers have been announced to support the Phantom. The system's delivery mothd also supports game demo downloads and rentals.

The phantom is only available online. You can pre-order the console starting in October at phantom.net

I think downloads would take a long time even on broadband. Most games now a days are a few Gigabytes and some span to 4 CDs. And if I can't play them offline, what's the point?!

Ok, so you go buy this thing and start paying for game downloads via credit card or whatever... you download shitpiles of games and fill up that huge hard drive with them. Bam! HDD failure... What then?

If I can't go down to the store and pick up a copy of a game on disc, cartridge, etc... then I don't want it. I'm not going to buy a game console that I can't physically put games in.

Phantom = Failure

because of restrictions. Can you imagine the hard disk seek noise when you're playing a game?

I don't think noise would be much of a factor. I've got two hard drives in my computer, and I can barely hear either of them. But I agree, it's a failure before it's even begun.

You wear a velcroed-on fake butt? :weird: No, I'm not even going to touch that one...

Good thing the rocket launcher wasn't loaded.

*takes rocket launcher and walks off*

dammit. :( :D

Sorry - just watched "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." Johnny Depp has a fake arm, and - well no, that's sufficient explanation. :D

Can you imagine how long it will take to download a game you can't play anytime? Phantom = crap.
