blurred screen

i am having this problem with my computer monitor. it goes all out of focus, which i think has something to do with the convergence setting. i cleaned the screen with windex a couple times but it made no difference.

however this happens all on its own without any changes made by me in the monitor configuration. earlier it was at an all time unreadablity, when suddenly it snapped back to normal. now it's a few hours later and it's starting to get bad again. i can hardly read the text in winamp.

so if anyone can help a poor fellow out, that would be greatly appreciated.

Step 1: Isolate the problem. Swap your monitor with that of another computer. If the problem stops on your computer, it is the monitor. Buy a new monitor.
Step 2: If it is not the monitor, update your video drivers. If this fails, swap out your video card with one from another computer.
Step 3: If this fails, make sure you have al the latest updates for our OS. If you do, and the problem still remains, reinstall your OS.
Step 4: If the problem remains, take your computer to a professional tech.

The monitors probably stuffed. Sorry, but this says it all:

Drivers cant cause or fix that, and it's extremely unlikely the video card could cause it.

If it's less than a few years old, you may be able to get it repaired under warranty, but if it's not covered it'll probably cost almost as much to fix than it will to get a new one. If it's more than a few years old, do your eyes a favor and get a new one.

well that sucks. i do have a warranty, yeah the monitor and comp are about 2 years old, i'm pretty sure the warranty was for 3 or 4..

fucking thing just flickered at me.

so i'll be off to try and fix this situation.. :/

Just out of curiousity, you haven't moved your monitor lately, have you? There are various external things that might cause you a problem, though I doubt that's it.

I learned this by plopping my computer monitor under a shelf-mounted fluorescent light fixture my freshman year. :)

Actually, it may not be as borked as you might think. And it's not the gun. Chances are that the stabilising field for the electron beam has been shifted somehow, or the mesh in behind the glass of the monitor has moved.

First check for external reasons, such as a stron electromagnetic field nearby. Even somethign as simple as a stereo speaker or a florescent light can have an effect.

Either way it can be fixed, assuming that the mesh hasn't moved too much. Inside your computer are two potentiometers, one for controlling the x-axis, and the other for the y-axis. By adjusting these, the electron beam can be "refocused" on the mesh again. Any TV repair person should be able to help you out.
