I love this album, part english, part indian, part sci-fi, part movie score. Clever arrangements, the sounds are very fresh. A joy.

Sounds like my kind of stuff 'seer.:) I'm into a bit of "Mothers of Invention" at the minute. Weird shit - that Frank Zappa's insane.

I did say to Nick (spaceplayradio) his thread was a MONSTER. I haven't got the proper english version of 99 Red Balloons yet - it's like Rock Me Amadeus, every version's different. I've got it on CD but I'm too lazy to reach up and get it. :(

I have 4 Zappa albums now. I'm trying to suss-out what the wind instrument is (the one that sounds like a duck on helium). It's great:D

I didn't like Jane's Addiction new album as much as I thought I would. They tried to keep with the new "trend" like Metallica did.

I really like their shimmering guitar sound. I prefer Strays to Ritual De Lo Habitual (which is all over the place). If anything, having Strays means I won't have to give this new Muse album a listen.
Embarassment of riches and all that.:)

Mostly black metal :)
Which is not gothic, it's a genre from Norway from the early 90's, which sees the world as deteriorating after the coming of christianity and the loss of their homeland's heathen tradition and values.
As Tvangeste puts it: (in russian-english for that matter..)
"Ground of my land have now became red
It can't take the blood anymore
Shouts of dying like an echo
of the greatest tragedy come to my land
With the servants of alien god..."
"The Land of our ancestors is grasped by the flame of war
The air is filled by bitterness
There is not the taste of freedom here anymore
Only grief about native ground
Only Unending rain and lonely warrior Mourn about
The Great nation exterminated for the name of goodness and love"
It varies from band to band how they express this feeling. Either by singing praise of the pagan tradition and it's beliefs and views of life while some lean heavily towards violence and satanism.
Ofcourse the media only shows the negative stuff about it, like the frequent church burnings and murders which all too often involve members from well known bands.
The music is great though, well most of it, and really worth listening to, it's far from 'noise'.
sorry for rambling

I see where you're coming from now. My black metal collection consists of odds and sods (Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Atari Teenage Riot, Alec Empire), nothing much really.
It's all a bit depressive (not to mention loud).:)

You purchased a compact disc ShyShy? It brings back fond memories (and a tear to the eye).:(
Walking into the record store..... Browsing the compact disc selection..... Taking purchase up to the counter (standing behind some grandad who's asking about 'The Spice Girls' for his daughter)..... Finally parting with some currency and taking ownership of one aluminium disc (complete with glossy packaging).
Thanks for evoking that memory of yesteryear.:)

The 'Lab's first work since the death of Mary Hansen. Very pretty.:) Still quirky, weird and wonderful. A splutter of synth here, a triangle over there.... Something to smile about for a change.

Sometimes purchased on the net, sometimes people even paid for them at a store (like you see in Little House on the Prairie).
It sounds absurd marvin, but that's yesteryear for you. 'The past is a foreign country......' and all that.
