I haven't got a clue what happens in Japan!!! I heard Shampoo were superstars in nip-land at one point, richly deserved as well.;)
Shampoo - Trouble
According to AMG the Cheeky Girls are followers of Shampoo. That borders on slander.

Yeah, shampoo are another lot, the Japs love them, because they are the total opposite of most Japanese culture, all blue eyes, blonde hair and bubblegum pop.
Not sure what the attraction with Pete Burns is though, but he is massive there, and I don't just mean his collagen injected lips either...

If memory serves it was 1993 - the xmas race was on between Mr Blobby & Take That. Mr Blobby won it by an inch (Noel was spotted buying 1,000 copies in HMV Oxford Steet). I always preferred Mr Wobblytickle (Newman & Baddiel's Resovoir Dogs parody).:D

I wouldn't exactly call Pat Benatar a "one hit wonder." "Love Is A Battlefield" was only one of her hits. She also put out "Shadows Of The Night", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", and "We Belong".
Here's a definite One Hit Wonder:
Diesel: Sausalido Summer Nights

Pete Burns apparently still does gigs at clubs like Astoria, :blah:.
Mr Blobby apparently got shot by an angry farmer, after he broke into the farmhouse in an attempt to fund his crack addiction which he got into after the closure of the Mr Blobby theme park spelled the end of his 'career'. Nobody complained.
A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (so far away). They had an album, I saw it the other day in HMV. :igor:

 utterly shocked
"When punk turned into new wave and the new bands played pop, The Jags came around. And made pop. I don't know why it sounds so much Elvis Costello with a thinner sound, it must be the special voice of the singer of the band, Nick Watkinson. He also played guitar, and the rest of the band were John Alder on vocals, guitar and piano, Steve Prudence on bass and Alex Baird on drums and percussion. The original drummer of the band was Neil Whitaker, but he sadly died in an accident before they got any fame. Prudence left before the second album and was replaced by Michael Cotton. At the same time Paddy O'Toole made them a five-piece band playing the keyboards.
It was in 1978 the two school friends Watkinson and Alder from Yorkshire formed the band. They had an affection for pub rock, and the two also liked The Beatles a lot, I'd say after listening to the backing vocals on the records. They comparison to Costello is maybe not so dumb, while the band says they really liked Nick Lowe, and his pop properties. Like for instance Yachts, The Vapors and The Distractions they had a couple of intensive years and in 1982 The Jags were no more.
'Back of my hand' is a brilliant pop song. It was Atkinson and Alder who wrote (almost) all the songs, and some special lyrics can be remembered from the songs 'Woman's world' and 'I never was a beach boy'. How they didn't become hits must be that music fastly turned into synth, the really deserved charting with those. I'm glad to have them before The Jam in my record collection.
It has come to our knowledge Paddy O'Toole went on to play bass with The Bewley Brothers co-writing the single 'Spinning on a time bomb', and recording the 2001 album 'Songs from the cypress tree'."

David Essex: Rock On
DJ Egg
11th October 2003, 00:30
cor blimey guv!
David Essex had heaps of hits in the UK in the 70's . . . and a fair few No.1's.
"I'm Gonna Make You A Star" springs to mind . . god, what an awful song!
Fuckin' hated his guts, lol. ;) :D
Also, Sinead O'Connor had a fair few other UK hits (Just Like U Said It Would B, Feel So Different, Emperor's New Clothes, Mandinka, etc), as did Suzanne Vega (Tom's Diner, Marlena On The Wall, Left of Center) . . . and Go West ("We Close Our Eyes", urghh, yuck!)
I suppose that's the problem here, we're all quoting different charts from around the world (UK, USA, Holland, India, Australia, France, etc etc).
Anyway . . . has anyone mentioned "The Vapours - Turning Japanese" yet?

11th October 2003, 00:43

For some weird reason, I've got 1979 on the brain (Vapours - Turning Japanese).
Also from 1979:
Doll - Desire Me (anyone remember this "new wave" classic?)
The Members - The Sound of the Suburbs (a punk classic) . . . well, actually, they also got to No.31 with "Offshore Banking Business", if that counts?)
The Dickies - Banana Splits
Flying Lizards - Money (Not sure if they had a follow-up hit though)
Selecter - On My Radio
The Regents - 7Teen (could've been early 1980 ?)
Secret Affair - Time For Action
And a few proper shitters: :D
Paul Evans - Hello, This is Joannie
Monks - Nice Legs, Shame About Her Face
Erroll Dunkley - OK Fred
