View Full Version : Winamp5-iTunes AAC Interaction

I did a search, and didn't see anything about this, so it's worth asking: what's up with Winamp5 and iTunes not playing each other's AAC files(non-DRM'd, of course)? When I ripped a couple of songs to AAC via WA5, and then tried to play them with iTunes, it was unable to play them; and the same thing happened with trying to get WA5 to play AAC files from iTunes. I compensated for extension issues(iTunes seems to recognize m4a for normal AAC files, m4p for protected files, and aac is what Winamp recognizes AAC files with), so I'm doubtful it's that, and am otherwise confused as to what can be going on here. AAC is a standard, so both iTunes and WA5 should be standards compliant here, so what the heck is going on? Thanks.

I had the same problem. This site provides an m4a plugin: http://www.pmbrowser*******hublog/archives/000316.html.

I believe m4p is proprietary, so who knows if/when Winamp will ever support it.

Ya, I've seen that plugin float around, and I'm sure it works, but I want to know why it works, but not the proper AAC decoder in Winamp. What's different between WA5 and iTunes; is Apple snubbing us all, or is it Winamp that's doing something different. This is all supposed to be standards based, so who isn't following the standard?
