View Full Version : filename as represented in the media library sucks.

why use the full file path and nothing else?

i'd like to see the name of the individual file, independent of the path, as a column that could be displayed. as things stand now, if you try to sort by filename, it sorts by path. that can screw things up. consider the files below.

c:/music/alien ant farm - movies.mp3
c:/downloads/ziggy marley - beautiful day.mp3

if you click on the "filename" column header, it sorts by file PATH, not file name. thus, ziggy would come before aaf.

of course, file path should still be an option. clearly this wouldn't be too hard to implement.

i'd also like to see the option to display the name of the directory in which files are stored, so that i can see at a glance whether a particular song is stored with my other mp3s or in my download folder.

i agree. i think we need three columns: directory, relative filename, and absolute filename.

Or even deeper than that:

I also would love to see something that ignores tags all together and takes the paths as the information.

I took a LONG time sorting my music into folders into the following setup:

Artist > Year - Album Name > Track number - Title.mp3

I am a real stickler about having it chronological by title. I don't think it would be real difficult for them to implement it and I think the option should be there.

The view in the ML can just then be Artist/Album/Track/Title but in the correct chronological/numerical order.

Can someone make a plugin or something PLEASE?!?

Also, have an option to remove the *ALL* selections from the tops of the lists. That is mega annoying.
