It occurs to me that Mel Brooks could never get away with any of his movies in 2005. Civil rights groups would hang him...
Especially "The sheriff is a N'ear".
Weird, even though I think he poked fun at every ethnicity there is with equal vigor.
Was there anyone he missed in insulting?.

I think this movie could have been better. I thought Mira Sorvino was weak somehow. I can't really put my finger on it, but her performance was sort of lackluster.

Yuppies get eaten by sharks. But they did have a half hour of character development at the start of the movie that made you not care. I can't even figure out why they put this "movie" in the can. No cinematography. No plot. Just feeding yuppies to the sharks.

no she got chowed too. After they eat the dead guy, you just see her get pulled under. Cut to the end and they cut his camera out of a dead shark.
At least that's the way I saw it. If they weren't bitching and screaming at each other, they wouldn't have attracted the sharks in the first place....

As imdb states, " Plot holes: If they go back in time to the same spot, at the same time, every time, then they should meet even more and more versions of themselves, as per the logic of Ryan and Raid's plan."
That says enough right there but I had to watch it anyway.

Last few movies I saw:
"Night Of The Living Dead" => yes, the original film by Georges Romero. It's so painfully bad that I have to murder it on Imdb when I have the time.

I recently watched Tron, it was interesting. I saw American History X a while ago, that was a very deep movie, although I think it could have been put together better, maybe. A while back a friend of mine had a Jim Henson marathon, and I thought The Dark Crystal was pretty weird, and I missed most of Labyrinth so I can't really make a judgement, but a recent movie that the Jim Henson company produced, called MirrorMask, had a pretty shallow plot but was very good just to watch. I love Alice-in-Wonderland type movies that create such visually unique worlds. Hmm, what else. I saw a movie called "Smoke Signals" which wasn't bad. Oh, and it was fairly recently that I first saw "The Princess Bride," that movie is a lot better than I expected.

Rating: 9/10 Minus half a point for not having more action from the kid. Minus half a point for not being long enough. Minus half a point for not having more bad-ass scenes like the rail gun moment. Expecially the pistol to the eye scene (note that the eye lashes didn't even flex, fuckin A). Plus half a point for leaving an opening for a second movie.

This weekend I watched two movies.
First was "The New World" :up:
While I'm a hopeless romantic, I've never really gotten into romantic themed movies.
But this one was good!
It had a story that was different and interesting,
probably because it was based on a true story,
one that was a fascinating part of America's history.
The acting was great, as well as the scenery.
Not bad at all.
The second was "Firewall" :down:
It's movies like this that justify my absence from movie theaters.
Just another Harrison Ford good guy gets bad guy movie.
The plot was so predictable and the ending had no suprise to it.
No real twists or turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Nothing new to see here.
Recent movies I've watched:
* V for Vendetta
* Inside Man
* Office Space

Superman Returns & Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest at the drive-in theatre. Both movies kinda suked, but having a barbecue, cooler, and mattress in the back of the truck more than made up for it.
For sound, they have a RF transmitter, and you just tune into their FM frequency with your car's radio for the sound.
The sound on Superman Returns was all fucked up. I don't know if it's because of the fact that it's in surround code and my truck is just a bunch of speakers that run on stereo, but certain sounds/tracks would cut on and off a couple times per second. The entire soundtrack didn't cut off, just certain parts, for example, the music would sometimes cut on and off a couple times per second, whereas the sounds of the special effects didn't skip like that, or vice versa - very distracting.
Strangely enough, this wasn't a problem with the second movie.
A bit windy and chilly towards the end, but we found ways to keep warm...

Caught up on some De Niro films: The Score, Ronin, and Hide and Seek. Pissed with myself for not being able to figure out who Charlie was earlier in the movie.
Once his identity was revealed, I was pissed at the movie makers for jerking me around. Suddenly the film reminded me of at least a dozen other movies (Sixth Sense, The Shining, etc.)
At least it wasn't as bad as The Village. That movie reminded me of The Beach; a movie I walked out on.
Aren't there any movies that don't remind you of another one?

Also caught Serenity :down: At least we were spared Morena Baccharins monologues about the merits of being a space hooker.
They killed off many of the cast in death scenes that left me looking at my wristwatch. This is at least a mercy, that they put the actors involved out of their misery.

Great story, great acting by everyone, and great scenery.

I'd seen Eternal Sunshine before, but remembered liking it more. The biggest problem I had with both is that I didn't care about any of the characters. To quote Mark Twain, "The test of any good fiction is that you should care something for the characters; the good to succeed, the bad to fail. The trouble with most fiction is that you want them all to land in hell, together, as quickly as possible."

Phantom of the Opera was good, except there were times in the movie when they tried using electronic music in place of the standard acoustic music (pipe organ, orchestra, etc.). That wouldn't be so bad, but the electronic music sounded like it came from a 3 octave Casio keyboard from the 1980s - cheesy, corny, ghey, tasteless, tacky, cheap, shitty, etc. That kinda ruined the movie for me, although since it didn’t last for incredibly long, I was at least able to enjoy the rest of the movie.

I watched this Indian movie the other night called Attahasam. It was decent. It was about this married couple who have a younger man, a lifetime friend of the woman, who she had babysat when he was a child, anyway the younger man kidnaps the woman, and takes her to a house outside of town and holds her hostage, thinking he was robbed of the chance to marry her.
Meanwhile the neighbors are saying that his wife "eloped" with the younger man, and the husbands family initially believes this, and it is up to the husband to find her and restore their honor.... etc..
Pretty decent movie, a little cheesey here and there, but some nice romance and action scenes. And of course stars a very hot Indian girl :P !!

Tim Allen is back as the has-been superhero 'Zoom'. He is convinced to train a team of kids to become what was his old team of super do-gooders back in the day, who's biggest failure was Zoom's own brother 'Concussion' who turned evil from the gamma 13 radation used by the goverment. Courtney Cox is the professor who had a crush on Zoom, but finds he is a bitter reflection of what she hoped he would be. This is a good movie for the kids and is even half decent for the adults to watch. I say rent it.

The Departed - Directed by Martin Scorsese
IMDB Link (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407887/)
Not a 'family movie' but a great action flick and a top-knotch cops and robbers movie. Swearing galore, violence, and drugs, so be forewarned.
Billy Costigan (Leonardo Decaprio) is a determined young cop who meets up with Detective Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellerby (Alec Baldwin) and is convinced to go under cover to penetrate the Irish Mafia led by Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). Costello also has a mole on the inside of Massachusetts State Police, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) who is quickly rising to a position of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The twists and turns and double-crossing send you reeling for hours as you watch the lives of the undercover cops on opposing sides of the law, continue to hit and miss while trying to discover each other's indentities. Definately a good action movie.
