I was one of the dumb guys who used that piece of crap iTunes when it had the 'organize library' check box on by default and burried deep in some obscure dialog box. Thus my entire mp3 collection was all screwed up. So now all 100 or so of my playlsts dont work and I now have an 'unknown album' folder for every artist and a huge unknown artist/unknown album directory. So it's winamp for my pc and mp3 dock for my mac.
What would be really nice would be if winamp had a thingie that could rename your library based on some identifiers ala cdex in which %1 is artist name, %2 is song name, %3 is album etc. So I could click on rename files and then enter in
%1\%1 - %2.mp3
and I would get
D:\mp3s\Devo\Devo - Whip It.mp3
or if I wanted
%1\%3\%2.mp3
and I would get
D:\mp3s\Devo\Freedom Of Choice\Whip It.mp3
When it comes to an unknown artist or album or anything else that was used to rename the file, it would stop and ask me what I would like to do.
So %1\%1 - %2.mp3 but %1 is unknown.. so it would stop and ask me "who or what is %1 for this track?" and I would enter Devo!
This would be basically what those evil sob's (die die die!)at apple did except for the "we'll let you name it whatever you want, and stop if we come across an unknown" part.
Another nice but rather impossible thing would be a feature that takes a broken playlist, finds the file that fits the artist name/song name (via id2 or id3 tags) in a specified directory and fixes the playlist so that it points to the correct file... (gd iTunes)
And if anyone knows of a utility that does either of these things already, PLEASE PLEASE let me know
